Tehran hosts the 7th international conference on Mahdism Doctrine - 14Jul2011 - English
Saman Kojouri, Press TV, Tehran
Thinkers and scholars from 20 countries are taking part in the event.
According to Islam, Mahdisim is a belief in the 12th imam of the Muslim Shia household, who is expected to emerge from occultation to fulfill his role and lead the faithful to salvation.
The belief varies under different names in different religions. The fundamentals of different religions show a recurring theme the Messiah; the one who is anticipated as the savior and liberator. This belief can be found in Islam, Christianity, Judaism and Zoroastrianism as well as a host of other religions too.
People always dream of better things: like better things to eat and a better life with no social problems; According to religious teachings when the Savior emerges the world will become full of all these “better” concepts.
But the main question, which remains to be answered, is that why mankind waits for a savior in this world.
The international conference on Mahdism doctrine will further discuss practical ways to prepare the ground for the reappearance of the savior of mankind.

Solar Impulse Video: Plane takes off & flies exclusively on sunlight - 26Jun2011 - English
One of the main attractions at the 2011 Paris Air Show was the Solar Impulse, a prototype aircraft powered exclusively by sunlight. It's only a single seater and is regularly delayed by either too much wind or too little sun, but it is a remarkable aircraft, solar powered and able to fly during day or night. And luckily for onlookers, conditions at the Paris show on Sunday were perfect for the Solar Impulse's first public demonstration flight. The aircraft flew for 20 minutes in front of large crowds at Bourget airport, where the world's aviation industry is gathered for the biennial Paris Air Show. The Solar Impulse is powered by the sun through 10-thousand solar cells which cover its 63-metre (207-feet) wingspan and generate about 40 horsepower, about the same power a small scooter uses, according to the flight team.

Defying France full veil ban - April 10, 2011 - English
After more than a year of controversy, the ban on full face veil in France has just come into effect.
But some women are already vowing to defy the restriction, Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports from Paris.
As the extreme right wing gains increasing popularity in France, President Sarkozy has been accused of trying to win back votes ahead of next year's presidential election by deliberately stigmatising Muslims.
The government vehemently denies this, and argues that the full veil is a symbol of male oppression.

Ruined by Tsunami: RT reporter in the middle of disaster-hit Sendai, Japan - 17Mar2011 - English
Japan is struggling to regain control over the overheated reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant, after a series of blasts and fires. The government's most-senior spokesman said cooling reactor number 3 is now the top priority because it's posing the biggest danger. Military helicopters are currently dropping seawater onto the stricken reactors in the latest bid to avert nuclear meltdown... While other aircraft are monitoring the amount of radiation. If levels get too high for the air crews, trucks with water cannons will be deployed to try and get the temperature of troubled reactors to drop. RT's Ivor Bennett has been to the quake-hit regions to see, first-hand, how more and more people are fleeing the area - terrified by the threat of meltdown.
