Documentary on Freedom Flotilla - Press TV - English
The death toll from the Israeli navy's takeover of a Gaza aid convoy has risen to 20 while Israel carefully censors reports on the casualties from the attack.
Gaza Freedom Flotilla came under fire early on Monday by Israeli navy forces in international waters more than 150km (90 miles) off the coast of Gaza.
The six-ship aid fleet was soon stormed by commandos descending from helicopters.
At least 20 people were killed in the takeover of the Gaza aid convoy, al-Aqsa TV channel reported, saying that more than 50 people, including leader of the Palestinian Islamic Movement Sheikh Raed Salah, were wounded in the attack.
The news trickled through the Israeli military censorship which has sought to block the reporting of any information about the casualties.
A report on the Israeli radio said the censorship was aimed at covering up the number of casualties brought to Israeli hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, Israeli Trade and Industry Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer expressed regret for the deaths aboard the Gaza aid ships.
"The images are certainly not pleasant. I can only voice regret at all the fatalities," he told Israel's Army Radio.
The comments come as the first official acknowledgement by Tel Aviv that the attack had turned fatal.
Israel had initially declined to comment on the reports of casualties from the takeover of the aid ships.

Iranians hold rallies to support Islamic dress code - 08Jul2011 - English

Just days before the national day of Hijab and Modesty, hundreds of Iranians took to the streets of Tehran and other cities to throw their weight behind a nationwide move to confront un-Islamic dress or bad Hijab.
Chanting such slogans as, “Hijab saves family and society” the demonstrators urged the government to protect the Islamic law.
In the past few years Iran has established a moral police unit, which has been assigned to confront those, who fail to uphold Islamic dress code especially in the summertime; the moral security police caution those who do not observe Islamic dress code properly, both women and men.
Islam, like other religions, believes that personal freedom in this field should be exercised in a controlled way, since unrestrained freedom creates chaos, especially in family relations.
The demonstrators believe that family and school play a key role in promoting the culture of Hijab in the society, and this is not possible unless the government and the nation work hand in hand.

Seminar held in the Office of the Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran in Makkah during Hajj 2011.
The idea behind Islamic unity dates back to 1400 years ago. In fact, it's as old as Islam itself. It was stressed by the holy Quran as well as pointed out in the traditions of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.
The Iranian Hajj Mission organized a seminar on 'Proximity among Islamic Schools of Thought' in the holy city of Mecca, in which scholars from several countries exchanged views and offered solutions to help reach unity. In a keynote speech at the conference, Leader's representative in Hajj Affairs Hujjat-al-Islam Seyed Ali Ghazi Askar stated that Muslims have no choice but to coalesce their positions on the issues facing them.
Participants agreed that Muslims can identify themselves as Muslims while keeping their specific religious beliefs and national identities.
Others stressed the importance of the teachings of the household of the Prophet as well as knowledge of Islamic preachers as key factors.
According to the explicit wording of the holy Quran, Islamic unity is an obligation upon all Muslims. It's like Hajj and daily prayers. Let's hope that the realization of the fact that Islamic unity is an obligation help Muslims face the challenges ahead more effectively.

It has been a ground breaking year in the Arab world. Some revolutions are taking their first steps, others are still feeling the pangs of birth. Either way a new region is being born.
In a predominantly Muslim region, the Arab Spring has been dubbed an Islamic Awakening. At this conference in London, religious scholars of different faiths and denominations, political figures and experts gathered to discuss the idea.
The job is not done yet. But among many of those fighting for freedom on the streets of the Arab world, their belief in god - Allah in Arabic - means everything. A matter of life and death.
The sound of AllahuAkbar - God is Great - is now well known across the world synonymous to protestors who believe victory cannot be achieved without him.
Of course it is not just Muslims who have been protesting. So what does the Islamic Awakening mean for them?
Among the political, social and cultural complexities of these revolutions, the issue of spirituality and faith cannot be ignored. It has played a role. Its significance is yet to be paved.
The revolution over the last year have occurred in the muslim world. At this conference they are discussing why they should be called an Islamic awakening. It’s clear Islam played a role in these just born revolutions still defining themselves. They are young movements rooted in a history that must be understood. That’s why the questions being asked her are so crucial. What are the elements of true Islamic values and what would they mean for the region if implemented.

[03 Aug 2012] How can Muslims in West help Islamic Awakening - English
After too much expectation and uncertainty, finally the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi won the election with 51.7 percent of the votes against Ahmed Shafiq. This came after a close competition in the second round, while some rumours were suggesting that the old regimes remnant Ahmed Shafiq might win. Thousands of Muslim Brotherhood supporters filled the streets and squares in Cairo and other cities to celebrate this victory, a turning point in Egypt's history to move from dictatorship to.
While Morsi succeeds Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown 16 months ago after a popular uprising, the military council has this month curbed the powers of the presidency. This means that the head of state will have to work closely with the army on a planned democratic constitution. This week's Islam and Life asks: Egypt changes: How can Muslims in the west help the Islamic Awakening?
