It\'s been more than three weeks since vital supply route for the US led forces stationed in neighboring Afghanistan remains blocked in the North West of Pakistan.The supply route at Torkham border has been blocked by activists of religious and political parties to protest against the US assassination drone strikes in the tribal areas. However, the move by the provincial government, which is run by Tehreek-e-Insaf or Justice Party, has put the central government in difficult position.That is why these top Pakistani civil and military authorities gathered in Islamabad to find a way out of the ongoing standoff. Despite efforts by the central government, the provincial administration has refused to allow trucks carrying supplies for the US forces in Afghanistan pass through the Torkham border.Pakistan is considered important for the US to ensure its forces\' smooth pull out of Afghanistan.The US has recently threatened to suspend billions of dollars in aid to Pakistan if supply routes are not reopened. In the face off continuing US drone attacks, Pakistan\'s civil and military leadership has promised to safeguard the country\'s national interests. However, they have not been able to come up with a clear strategy to pacify the growing public anger against the CIA\'s illegal and deadly drone campaign.

In Libya, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan has called on Libyans to resort to peaceful means to settle a standoff over their interim parliament. Thousands of Libyans took to the streets of the capital Tripoli on Friday to protest GNC\'s mandate extension which expired on Friday. A large portion of Libya\'s population is critical of GNC for its inability to prevent the country from sliding into chaos. There are growing fears that rival armed groups would engage in clashes. Iran questions Obama's 'change' Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has criticized his American counterpart Barack Obama for failing to realize his campaign trail promise of "change." "They (the Americans) announced that they had pulled out part of their forces from Iraq in recent days and claimed that their move was in line with their slogan of 'change,'" Fars News Agency quoted President Ahmadinejad as saying on Wednesday. "You said you would withdraw all your troops from Iraq, why is it that some of them are still in this country? Secondly, where are you relocating your forces from Iraq?" "The Americans want to relocate their soldiers to Afghanistan. What kind of a change in their military policy is this?" the president asked during a speech in the western Hamadan Province. Ahmadinejad went on to say, "Real change means that you take your forces... and leave our region." The president also referred to the standoff over Iran's nuclear program, urging the US leader "not to miss another chance" over Tehran's nuclear fuel swap proposal. "Obama missed last year's chance for fuel swap, but this opportunity is once again on the table today. We have informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that we are ready for fuel swap and for negotiations from mid-Ramadan (September)." The president dismissed a recent host of unilateral sanctions imposed against Iran by the US, the European Union, Canada, and Australia, as "ineffective." Western powers, led by the US and Israel, accuse Iran of following a covert military nuclear program. Tehran denies the charges, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) it has the right to civilian nuclear technology. Earlier reports on Wednesday said that the president's motorcade had come under a grenade attack during the trip to Hamadan. The President's office, however, rejected the reports.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday, Obama said, "Let me be clear once more: the United States and the international community seek a resolution to our differences with Iran, and the door remains open to diplomacy should Iran choose to walk through it." "But the Iranian government must demonstrate a clear and credible commitment and confirm to the world the peaceful intent of its nuclear program," AFP quoted him as saying. Obama's comments come while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has in different reports confirmed the non-diversion of Iran's nuclear program. Iran signed a nuclear declaration with Turkey and Brazil in May as a diplomatic effort to solve the standoff with the West over its nuclear program. Foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey, and Brazil signed the declaration in the Iranian capital Tehran on May 17, according to which the Islamic Republic would ship 1200 kilograms of its low-enriched uranium to Turkey to be exchanged for 120 kilograms of 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel rods to power the Tehran research reactor, which produces radioisotopes for cancer treatment. The US and its allies, however, disregarded the declaration by imposing a fourth round of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran. Iran has criticized the US-engineered UN sanctions, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and an IAEA member, it has the right to pursue and benefit from nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. Tehran announced in September that it was ready to resume talks on its nuclear program, but stressed that any negotiations must be conducted within the framework of the Tehran declaration. Obama's call for diplomacy on Iran comes as major world powers have also urged resumption of talks with Iran over its nuclear program. Foreign ministers of the P5+1 — China, France, Russia, Britain and the US plus Germany — said in a statement on Wednesday that they seek a "long-term negotiated solution" to Iran's nuclear issue.

The latest drone attack on North Waziristan province, bordering Afghanistan, killed at least 18 people. The government of the newly-elected Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has opposed the CIA-led drone campaign and sought its immediate end. Now the country\'s interior minister has warned that the continued US drone attacks may lead to direct standoff between Washington and Islamabad.

On his twitter page, Rouhani referred to his phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Rouhani told Putin that excessive demands could complicate the process toward a win-win agreement. The Iranian president praised Moscow\'s efforts to help negotiate a settlement to the issue. According to the Kremlin, Putin told Rouhani that there\'s a QUOTE real chance to resolve the international standoff over Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Representatives from Iran and the five permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany will sit down for fresh talks in Geneva this coming Wednesday. The meeting will be held under pressure from Israel which seems determined to force Western countries to block a nuclear deal with Iran. The previous round of talks ended without an agreement after France, blocked a deal under the influence of Israel.

They\'re expected to narrow the differences and finalize a nuclear deal with Iran, which fell through in the last round of talks a fortnight ago. Alexei Pushkov says that Iran cannot be denied its nuclear rights and that all countries involved in drafting the deal share the same opinion. Earlier, Russian president Vladimir Putin hailed the deal between Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany ---- which was clinched in Geneva following intensive talks. Putin called the deal a breakthrough on a decade-long nuclear standoff. He stressed that it is the first step on a long and difficult path and a step forward toward a permanent solution to the dispute over Iran\'s nuclear program.

Furious Afghan president says US drones have struck a home in Helmand, killing a small child and wounding two women. President Hamid Karzai has condemned the drone strike as yet another example of US disregard for civilian life. The strike comes in the midst of a standoff between the Afghan government and the US over a security deal. Washington is pushing for a military presence in Afghanistan after 2014 along with legal immunity for American troops. The US killing of civilians is a controversial issue in Afghanistan. The Afghan government wants the Americans to stop using airstrikes in populated areas, but those demands have so far fallen on deaf ears.

The US administration warns the Congress that passing new sanctions against Iran will prove to the world that America negotiates in bad faith. White House spokesman Jay Carney says passage of new sanctions will undermine efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the standoff over Iran\'s nuclear program. He stated that any new sanctions would give the Iranians Quote-- an excuse Unquote to push the terms of the Geneva nuclear agreement to the side. The latest push by the White House comes as several groups of Republican and Democratic senators are making efforts to target Iran with a new set of sanctions. Carney added that if Tehran failed to abide by the terms of the deal, the White House would support new sanctions against the country. According to last month\'s Geneva deal, the U-S and its Western partners made a commitment to refrain from imposing new sanctions for six months.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah will settle its score with Israel. Referring to the crisis in Syria and the role of Hezbollah, Nasrallah said that his movement is fighting to protect the whole Middle East region form the threat of extremist groups. The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon says Israel is now using the Takfiris as a tool to try to weaken Syria but to no avail as many in the Arab world are revising their stance with regard to what is going on in the country. The Hezbollah chief also talked about the current political standoff in Lebanon, saying that the deadlock should be resolved through the formation of a national unity government. While Hezbollah has been trying to counter the activities of Saudi-backed takfiri elements in Lebanon and Syria, the secretary general of Hezbollah has stressed that the battle against Israel remains an open battle and that the Lebanese resistance movement will retaliate Israeli moves at the necessary time and place.
