The United Nations and Arab League special envoy to Syria say the Syrian crisis has become extremely dangerous for the the region and beyond. Addressing a news conference in Iraq, Brahimi said there\'s a new attempt to solve the Syrian crisis in the Geneva 2 peace conference. His comments come as the United States and Russia, who support opposing sides in the conflict, have been trying for months to bring the Damascus government and the divided opposition to the table for a peace conference. But with the war deadlocked, the opposition has shown no interest in compromise, forcing the meeting to be repeatedly postponed.

Iran\'s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman has condemned a report by the UN special Human Rights Rapporteur on the country\'s rights situation as politicized and biased. Marzieh Afkham said such reports should not be used as a criterion to judge the human rights situation in Iran. Afkham was reacting to the latest report by the UN Rapporteur Ahmad Shahid which accused Tehran of failing to make significant improvements on the human rights front. The Iranian foreign ministry spokeswoman said the report lacks legitimacy, as it is based on information provided by terrorist groups. Afkham also described Iran as the anchor of stability and religious democracy in a region which suffers from extremism and terrorism.

The Syrian leader has met with the UN-Arab League Special Envoy for Syria, on the third day of his visit to the country. The meeting was aimed at paving the way for the Geneva-2 conference on Syria.

The UN, Arab League special envoy for Syria is in Lebanon for talks with high-ranking Lebanese officials. Lebanon is said to have paid the heaviest price so far as a result of the war in neighboring Syria and is now hoping that the Geneva 2 Conference will be held soon to pave the way for a political solution to the crisis.

On that day in 2009, an epic was created by the mass turnout of the nation to show their support for the Islamic establishment following post-election unrest in the country in that year. On December 30, 2009, Iranians took to the streets in the millions to condemn what was called the \\\"seditious movement\\\" and to show anger for the unrest that took place after the June\\\'s presidential election especially on Ashura-- a day Shia Muslims mark the martyrdom anniversary of Prophet Muhammad\\\'s grandson, Imam Hussein (PBUH). After the presidential election, supporters of two of the defeated candidates made allegations of vote fraud. But such allegations were dismissed by the country\\\'s election officials. The guardian council -which based on Iran\\\'s constitution, supervises election- concluded there were no irregularities, dismissing election complaints. But the street protests -supported by foreign powers- continued on different occasions for more than six months. Then on December 30th, the nation poured to the streets to show support for the establishment. That day, the Iranians once more proved that if the Islamic establishment is threatened by the western-backed soft war, they are ready to sacrifice. They sent the message of unity to the entire world. The 2009 post-election unrest and the following incidents proved that the nation has enough insight and they firmly stand against foreign threats.

After holding an emergency meeting, Putin issued special instructions for Volgograd which has witnessed two deadly blasts since yesterday. At least 14 people have been killed and over two dozen others wounded in an explosion that ripped through a trolley-bus. The incident follows Sunday\\\'s bombing at the city\\\'s main train station which left over a dozen people dead and wounded scores more. One of Egypt\'s famous pharaohs, King Ramses II, receives a special surprise from the sun as thousands of visitors come to witness the solstice in Egypt. Five thousand tourists along with thirty ambassadors and representatives from the media gathered to catch a glimpse of the unique astronomical phenomenon, which occurs twice a year. The visitors were also able to treat themselves to a wonderful scene where the sun fell perpendicularly on the face of the statue of the third king of the 19th dynasty in Abu Simbel Temple. According to Egypt State Information Service, this rare phenomenon happens on February 22 and October 22, the day King Ramses II ascended to the throne and the day of his birth respectively.
