More than a quarter of the US Senate introduces a new bill to impose fresh sanction on Iran. The bill is sponsored by 13 Democrats and 13 Republicans. They say the sanctions will be slapped against Iran if the country breaches the terms of last month\'s Geneva deal. The draft also forces the US administration to support Israel militarily, diplomatically and economically in case Tel Aviv decides to launch an attack against Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Congress has recently tripled the US government\'s requested aid for Israel. Meanwhile, the White House has highlighted the use of diplomacy as a suitable approach for resolving Iran\'s nuclear issue.

As awareness across the world continues to increase regarding the Israeli Apartheid regime in Palestine, each effort in this aspect would help accelerate the conclusion of this shameful page in history. And as this awareness rises, campaigns to boycott, divest and sanction this regime provide a very effective and natural response. The world witnesses a similar response transpire and bear fruit in the case of South Africa, and there are very good reasons to believe that it will do the same in the case of Palestine.

[23 June 2012] Iranian president in Venezuela to boost bilateral ties - English Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warmly greeted his close ally Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the presidential palace in Caracas. The Iranian leader arrived in Venezuela's capital from stops in Brazil, where he attended the United Nations Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro, and Bolivia.Chavez and Ahmadinejad vowed to keep building closer ties. The Venezuelan president has expressed solidarity with Iran on its nuclear energy program which Iran insists it's for peaceful purposes. Caracas and Tehran have signed an estimated five billion dollars worth of trade deals and accords since 2001 including construction projects, car factories and most recently an agreement for Caracas to manufacture unmanned aerial aircrafts better known as drones.The United States has looked at these accords with disapproval and last year put sanctions on Venezuela's state oil company for making deals with Iran's energy sector.Chavez criticized the sanctions against Iran and pledged to continue being Tehran's key ally in Latin America.This is President Ahmadinejad second visit to Venezuela this year. According to Hugo Chavez there have been more than 300 bilateral accords signed by both countries.

India will develop a gas field in Iran. Farzad-B is an offshore field in Farsi block in southern Iran. National Iranian Oil Company has offered its production sharing contract to India. It comes to a consortium of three Indian public sector petroleum companies. They include ONGC Videsh, Indian Oil and Oil India. There could still be serious obstacles. Any company doing business with Tehran could face international economic sanction. The Indian companies are not worried. They are confident that a way could be found to escape these sanctions. The secretary of Iran\'s Supreme National Security Council says Western threats and illegal sanctions against Iranians have had no effect on the nation\'s will to go ahead with its nuclear program.

The UN secretary-general has deplored the use of chemical weapons in Syria and has called on the international community to sanction those responsible for the chemical attacks. Ban Ki-moon\'s statement came a day after a UN report concluded that banned chemical weapons were used at least five times before Damascus agreed to dismantle its arsenal. However, the report did not lay blame for the attacks. The report said evidence indicated chemical weapons were probably used in Khan al-Assal outside Aleppo on March 19 against soldiers and civilians. The government and opposition accused each other of using chemical weapons at Khan al-Assal, and the report said none of the parties in Syria denied their use in the village. Swedish expert Ake Sellstrom, who led the UN investigation team that compiled the report, reminded reporters that the mandate did not allow him to point the finger at anyone.

The army soldiers claimed the victims were militants but it was later found out that they were just three innocent civilians. The incident sparked violent protests against the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act that gives unbridled power to army personnel in the region. More than 110 civilians were killed in protests that lasted several months back in 2010. Now, three years after the incident, rights activists are not optimistic about the outcome of the court martial proceedings. They say the court martial is just a cover-up because the accused enjoy the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. That act gives legal immunity to Indian forces in Kashmir and forbids their prosecution without the sanction from the Indian government. According to rights activists, hundreds of security personnel face charges of murder, rape, and arrest in Kashmir, but prosecution against them has been hindered due to the special powers. The army has ordered court martial proceedings against the accused army soldiers in Machil fake encounter. But it remains to be seen whether the real perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice in the near future.
