The Syrian army has regained control of the southern suburbs of Damascus, flushing out insurgents from their strongholds. Mohamad Ali reports from the region.

Almost a year after the Pakistani army regained control of the Swat valley, the government is trying to get life back to normal for the residents there. Nasrallah defends Hezbollah fighting extremists in Syrian town of Qusayr Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah has defended the Lebanese resistance movement\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s decision to fight foreign-backed militants in the Syrian border town of al-Qusayr. Nasrallah made the remarks on Saturday during a ceremony marking the 13th anniversary of the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon, known as the Liberation Day. The Hezbollah leader said if foreign-backed militants win the war on Syria, they will turn their weapons on Lebanon. Nasrallah further pointed out that the extremist Salafist groups form the backbone of the unrest in Syria, adding that the US-backed armed groups are also a threat to all Lebanese communities. The Syrian army pressed ahead to liberate al-Qusayr in Homs Province fully from the foreign-backed militants on Saturday, seizing al-Daba\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'a military airport north of the town. The army also regained control of the Ba\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ath Party headquarters in the strategic town that borders Lebanon, killing large numbers of foreign-backed militants. The government forces have inflicted losses on the militants and destroyed their weaponry and equipment. Nasrallah said the ongoing war in Syria is part of an American project to change the balance of power in the region in favor of the Israeli regime. He, however, promised victory against the Salafist groups in Syria. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"I say to all the honorable people, to the Mujahedeen, to the heroes: I have always promised you a victory and now I pledge to you a new one\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" in Syria, he said. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"We will continue along the road ... bear the responsibilities and the sacrifices. This battle is ours ... and I promise you victory,\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" he said. Syrian government forces are going ahead with their mop-up operation in Qusayr after they regained full control of the strategic town. The troops were reportedly defusing on Wednesday explosive devices planted by the Takfiri militants fighting against the government in different parts of the town. More than 200 pickup trucks carrying militants left the town and moved to a nearby village in the north of Qusayr. The government is trying to bring the town back to normal as soon as possible. Syrian military forces have dismantled the terrorist network of the foreign-backed militants in the strategic area, which borders Lebanon. Qusayr has been an important center and supply route for the foreign-sponsored militants fighting against the Damascus government. The Syrian Army also reported that it has obtained documents confirming the role of Arab and non-Arab countries in the Syria crisis. Syrian army victories against foreign-backed militants have become a fact nearly on a daily basis, especially in Damascus and its suburbs. Press TV team accompanied Syrian army units in parts of al-Qaboun area that have been cleared of the foreign-backed militants. The Army regained control over the main bus station in al-Qaboun where Syrians used to head to any other Syrian city. However, armed men, who occupied it for nearly two months, destroyed it completely. Syrian army units have managed to completely secure the 1.5 kilometer industrial zone in al-Qaboun area which links Barzeh, al-Qaboun and Jobar together. The Syrian army has launched operations in the countryside of the capital, Damascus in an effort to drive foreign-backed insurgents out. Military sources say they have so far inflicted heavy losses on the militants and regained control of several areas on the city\'s outskirts.

The Syrian army forces are pushing ahead with their mop-up operations in the country\'s northwest. Syrian soldiers have secured the al-Dweireneh town, east of the al-Nayrab airport in Aleppo. This is the latest in a series of army advances across the country over the recent weeks. On Tuesday, army units regained full control of the Qara town in the strategic al-Qalamoun area in the countryside of the capital Damascus. They also freed a number of towns there. The Qalamoun region is used by militants to cross into Syria from Lebanon.

Reports from Syria say Kurdish fighters have managed to recapture a key town in the country\'s north-east. Press TV sources say the Kurdish People\'s Protection Units, known as YPG, have regained control of Tall Hamis town near the Turkish border. The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. The victory is not the first for the YPG, as the group has previously taken control over several areas in the region.

The Syrian army continues its offensive against foreign-backed insurgents in the city of Aleppo, making more advances in the area. Syrian troops have regained full control of the village of Sheikh Najjar and the strategic Ghali Hill on the outskirts of Aleppo. A large number of foreign-backed insurgents, including some foreigners, were also killed in the offensive. It was the latest in a series of military operations against militants who receive military aid from their supporters in Western countries and their regional allies. Meanwhile, thousands of residents of the city of al-Hasakeh in northeastern Syria took to the streets to show their support for President Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian Army. The demonstrators also chanted slogans condemning the militants\\\' atrocities.
