A 10 day drill in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Aden by Iran's navy.
The drill seeks to stretch Iran's naval presence through international waters, control and protect Iranian and foreign ships, counter piracy and terrorism, and improve the country's defense tactics. That according to the commanders of Iran's Basij and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
Commander Jafari was addressing an inauguration ceremony to appoint Brigadier General Mohsen Kazemeini as the new commander of IRGC Division in Tehran.
Also speaking to Press TV, Iran's Basij Force Commander said the naval drill is the first of its kind, because it covers 2000 kilometers. He also said the war games pose no threat to Iran's Persian Gulf neighbors.
Some 40 percent of the world's oil supply passes through the strait of Hormuz. The commander of Basij Force dismissed Western claims that Iran plans to close the Strait of Hormuz during the military exercises.
Iran launched the massive naval exercise on Saturday. The Navy is expected to employ new classes of submarines, drones, ground-to-sea missiles and torpedoes during the ten-day maneuvers.

Four Ghadir submarines join Iran fleet
Amid efforts to boost security in the Persian Gulf, the Iranian Navy has been equipped with four domestic-made Ghadir class mini submarines.
Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Vahidi hailed the delivery as a sign of progress in Iranian
military ingenuity.
Brig. Gen. Vahidi said that the stealth submarine is capable of launching torpedoes as well as precision targeting.
"The mass production of this strategic vessel has been carried out with the aim of increasing the defense
capabilities of the Naval Forces ... and today four advanced Ghadir submarines joined the Iranian naval fleet."
The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has excellent shallow depth performance, and can
carry out long-term coastal missions. The Iranian fleet currently has 11 Ghadir submarines.
Aside from three Russian-built Kilo class diesel submarines, the Iranian Navy also operates another homemade 500-ton
submarine in its patrol missions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
"With the mass production of this submarine alongside various guided-missile launchers the country's defensive
production chain is complete, and these capabilities will be used to served peace, stability and security in the
Persian Gulf region and the Sea of Oman," he added.

Ghader missile, an anti-ship cruise missile equipped with technology that makes it undetectable by the best radars. Ghader missile was mass produced and delivered to the both naval forces of Iran, Islamic Revolution Guard Corp (IRGC) and the Military by Iran's Ministry of Defense on Wednesday. The missile has been designed, constructed and mass produced by Iranian experts and engineers to be used against large battleships and aircraft carriers. Iran's President first inaugurated Ghader missile late August of this year. Western media was very skeptical of the event.
Ghader missile can be fired from air, ground and the ship. . It is equipped with digital auto-pilot, anti-jamming radar technology and is programmable. Ghader can detect and find its target in the sea in low altitudes and sink them. Iran's high ranking military officials say that production of such weapons is exclusive and that Iran is the only country with such capabilities.
High ranking naval officials talked of the destructive power of Gahder missile.
Ghader missile has a range of more than 200 Kilometers.

Medics tell Press TV they have found traces of depleted uranium in some Gazan residents wounded in Israel's ground offensive into the strip.
Norwegian medics told Press TV correspondent Akram al-Sattari that some of the victims who have been wounded since Israel began its attacks on the Gaza Strip on December 27 have traces of depleted uranium in their bodies.
The report comes after Israeli tanks and troops swept across the border into Gaza on Saturday night, opening a ground operation after eight days of intensive attacks by Israeli air and naval forces on the impoverished region.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned on Sunday that the wide-ranging ground offensive in the Gaza Strip would be "full of surprises."
A ground offensive in the densely-populated Gaza is expected to drastically increase the death toll of the civilian population.
The latest assaults bring the number of Palestinians killed to over 488 with 2790 others wounded. The UN says that about 25 percent of the casualties were civilian deaths - including at least 34 children.
According to Israeli army officials, at least 30 of its soldiers have been wounded since the start of the ground campaign.
Amid global condemnation of the ongoing violence in the region, the UN Security Council failed to agree on a united approach to resolve the crisis.
"Once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council," UN General Assembly chief Miguel d'Escoto said Sunday.
According to diplomatic sources, the US blocked a Security Council resolution, with US Deputy Ambassador Alejandro Wolff arguing that an official statement that criticizes both Israel and Hamas would not be helpful.
The White House has so far declined to comment on whether an Israeli ground incursion into Gaza is a justified measure.

In October 1911, during the Italo-Turkish War, an Italian naval contingent under the command of Admiral Luigi Faravelli reached the shores of Libya, then a territory subject to Ottoman Turkish control. The admiral demanded that the Libyans surrender their territory to the Italians or incur the immediate destruction of the city of Tripoli. The Libyans fled instead of surrendering, and the Italians bombarded the city for three days, then proclaimed the Tripolitanians to be "committed and strongly bound to Italy." This marked the beginning of a series of battles between the Italian colonial forces and the Libyan armed opposition under Omar Mukhtar.
