[22 July 2012] Tensions high over Lebanon national dialogue - English
After Lebanese president Michel Suleiman finally succeeded in resuming national dialogue in June between Lebanese factions, the prospects of its continuation look bleak.
The March 14 movement announced its intention to boycott the upcoming dialogue session over what it called Hezbollah's refusal to discuss its arms. March 14 has long demanded that dialogue tackle what it calls the illegitimate arms, accusing Hezbollah of making decisions of war and peace.

Bahrain\'s opposition group say they\'re going to continue their boycott of a national dialog over the Manama regime\'s ongoing crackdown on dissent.
They\'ve stressed that the recent release of the leader of the main opposition bloc, al-Wefaq, is not enough for them to return to the national dialog. This, just days after a Bahraini court ordered the release of Khalil al-Marzuq and said his case will be reviewed in mid-December. Marzuq was charged with encouraging anti-regime violence in the tiny island state in the Persian Gulf. He has rejected the charges. His arrest had prompted the Shia-led opposition to suspend political talks with the regime. Bahrain has been the scene of almost-daily protests against the regime since mid-February 2011, despite a heavy-handed crackdown on pro-democracy rallies.

A US federal appeals court has rejected the plea by a Saudi national who\'s serving life in prison for trying to make a bomb.
23-year-old Khalid Ali Aldawsari, a former Texas college student, was convicted nearly two years ago of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Prosecutors said he had collected bomb-making materials in his Lubbock apartment and researched possible targets -- including former President George W. Bush\'s Dallas home. In the appeal to the New Orleans-based court, Aldawsari\'s lawyers contended that the trial judge improperly allowed evidence and gave invalid jury instructions.
