Syria\'s grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun says at least two-thousand Russian citizens are currently fighting along foreign-backed insurgent inside Syria. Sheikh Hassoun made the remark during a visit to the Islamic University of Moscow. Hassoun said from the beginning of the unrest in Syria more than two-thousand Russian nationals, mostly of Chechnya origin, have moved to Syria to fight the government there. He\'s added that a large number of those people have been killed so far and Damascus estimates that some 1300 of them are still operating inside Syria. According to Syria\'s grand Mufti, most of those Russian nationals are from North Caucasus and citizens of Commonwealth of Independent states.

The Mufti of Syria, a Sunni Muslim, speaks about the Wahabi media machine that has faithfully continued the work of the Umayyad media machine that started 14 centuries ago in distorting historic facts to justify their false supremacy over humanity and other Islamic schools of thought. In this short clip, the Mufti contrasts Imam Ali and Muawiya, without mentioning any names of course. Ironically, the sermon is given in the city that was once Muawiya's capital city. Yet another confirmation that Wahabiism is a cancerous tumor that continues to cause strife between Sunnis and Shia and Muslims and Non-Muslims.

More bad news for women in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom\'s Grand Mufti says the country\'s ban on women\'s driving protects the society from evil. Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah also said that allowing women to drive is not the society\'s concern. His comments come as activists in the Persian Gulf monarchy have time and again protested the ban. This, while the Saudi interior minister has assured rights activists that authorities are re-assessing the situation. To this day, Saudi Arabia is the only country where women are not allowed to drive.

[24 May 2012] What is view of Islam on building Christian churches in Muslim lands - English A recent fatwa issued by a Wahhabi mufti calls for destruction of all churches in the Arabian Peninsula. He issued the fatwa in late March 2012 in response to a Kuwaiti lawmaker who asked if Kuwait could ban church construction in Kuwait. The fatwa paves the way for adding an article to the new Kuwaiti constitution that forbids building of new churches. Ahl al-Bait assembly condemns the fatwa saying that it is contrary to both Shia and Sunni traditions, and has no precedence in Islamic jurisprudential schools. The assembly also slams the "deadly silence" of Muslim scholars in the face of such fatwa that distort the image of Islam. It also criticizes international human right organizations as well as Western and Christian governments for their support of Saudi regime and Wahhabi doctrine. The chairman of a group of European Catholic Bishops slams the Saudi Mufti by saying that his fatwa "shows no respect for the religious freedom and free co-existence of religions". At least 29 Shia Muslim pilgrims have been killed after gunmen opened fire on a bus in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan, Press TV reports. Officials told Press TV that the gunmen riding motorcycles attacked the bus in Mastung area on Quetta-Taftan road of southwestern Pakistan on Tuesday. About 30 other people were also injured in the shooting, according to officials. Most of the victims belonged to Hazara tribe of Shia Muslims. The bus carrying Shia pilgrims was on its way from Quetta to the Iranian border when militants targeted it. Every year millions of Muslims pilgrims flock to the holy shrines in the Iranian cities of Mashhad and Qom. Pakistani security forces reached the area and started rescue operation following the incident. The death toll is expected to rise further as most of the injured are said to be in critical conditions. No group or person has claimed responsibility for the attack. Pro-Taliban groups have launched a violent campaign against Shia Muslims, and appear to have widened their terror campaign in major Pakistani cities. Several Shia religious gatherings have been targeted in different parts of the country over the past few months. Shia sources say they make up one-third of Pakistan's population of nearly 170 million. Since the 1980s, thousands of people have been killed in sectarian-related incidents in Pakistan.

Egypt's grand mufti Shaikh Ali Juma'a's visit to Al-Quds (Jerusalem) last April, was criticized by some Muslim and Arab figures. He did the religious visit to Al-Aqsa mosque along with a Jordanian royal family member. They also visited Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Greek Orthodox patriarchate, both located in the Old City which has been under Israel military occupation since 1967. Jordanians say the visit was in accordance to the Prophet Mohaamad's command to visit only three mosques on pilgrimage: Al-Aqsa mosque, the Harem mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's mosque in Madina. Mahmoud Abbas also has called on Muslims to visit Al-Aqsa mosque and revitalize it by filling it with worshipers and pilgrims.

Syria\'s grand Mufti says Turkey is behind the abduction of two Orthodox bishops of the city of Aleppo. Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun says the two bishops are alive and being held in Turkey. He says Chechen militants colluded with Turkish special services to kidnap them. Metropolitan Paul of Aleppo and Metropolitan Gregory of the Siro-Jacobite Church were abducted near the Turkish border in April. Rumors circulated that both of them were killed, however the rumors were later denied. The metropolitans were said to be working on resolving humanitarian problems in the northern village of Kafr Dael when they were abducted. The Syrian cleric believes their abduction could be linked to Ankara\'s requests for the transfer of the seat of the Antioch patriarchate from Syria to Turkey.

Moulana Awaisi resident Aalim of Makkah Masjid stressed on Qur’anic teachings that regardless of theological orientations, all Muslims, Shia or Sunni, shall embrace brotherhood to fail divisive plots of external enemies. Br. Afeef khan, an eloquent intellectual, highlighted how ignorance and absence of public mindset is weakening Muslims and acting as an apparatus for exploitation by oppressive political powers. Similarly, Dr. Butt, a prominent intellectual, shared his views that our common goal must be to help each other in attaining pleasure of Allah (swt) and this should be a sufficient call for Muslims to come together. Mustapha Carol, Executive Director of CAIR, articulated that civil liberties and social justice would prevail, if Muslims stand fortified for the common causes and become active on socio-political fronts. Researcher and scholar Moulana Shamshad Haider elaborated that the Islamic principles are based on humanity so one should act as human in order to be a Muslim. Revered poets, Ayaz Mufti and Zafar Taqvi blessed the gathering with beautiful and thought provoking poetry. The program concluded with Salat-al-Jamat and a community dinner for all attendees. The organizers are grateful to the community of Greater Houston, Media Partners, and participating agencies who showed such interest and cooperation in making the program successful. This program was highly appreciated by the scholars and participants and they insisted to hold programs geared towards the unity of Muslims in the Houston.
