he prospects of ending 12 years of pro-Taliban militancy through negotiations in Pakistan are dying down after a US drone attack killed Wali u Rehman Mehsud, the deputy chief of pro-Taliban militants controlling parts of the tribal region in the country\'s northwest.
In retaliation, the militants have said they will withdraw their earlier offer to hold talks with the incoming government of Muslim League- Nawaz Sharif. The pro-Taliban militants have slamed the government, in a reference to the country\'s military for conspiring to get their leader killed through a US drone strike.
Opposition parties are now mounting pressure on incoming Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to order Pakistan\'s Air Force, after taking the oath of office next week, to shoot down US assassination drones operating in the country\'s tribal areas. Sharif\'s party seeks to convene a meeting of other political parties to decide on a joint course of action on how to deal with Washington\'s continued violation of Pakistan\'s sovereignty.

Turkey has sent over 47 tons of weaponry to insurgents in Syria since June.
Based on UN records, Turkey has sent varying amounts of guns to militant groups in Syria, with the highest reaching nearly 29 tons in September. The Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman initially denied the statistics but later confirmed that the UN numbers were based on previous records from the Turkish Statistics Institute. Back in November, authorities seized nearly 1-thousand rocket heads after searching a truck in the southern city of Adana. At the time, the city\\\'s governor claimed that the operation proved Turkey was not supporting radical groups in Syria.

The Iraqi military has destroyed the camps of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province.
The assault comes after several senior officers and soldiers were killed during an operation against militants in the western province. The Iraqi defense ministry says the reason behind the rise in violence in Iraq is the spillover of the war in neighboring Syria. Baghdad says it has information that shows the arrival of weapons and advanced equipment from Syria to Anbar and Nineveh provinces. The build-up is said to have encouraged al-Qaeda-linked militants to revive some of their camps that had been destroyed in 2008. Deadly violence in Iraq has surged to the highest levels since 2008, when the country was on the brink of an all-out civil war.

A heartbreaking documentary by filmmaker and journalist Ziad Zafar on the disappeared people in Pakistan. Timely and to the point. Points to the two major factors that determine Pakistani politics - the American geo-strategic interests and the politico-economic interests of the military establishment. Important to note that religious extremism and sectarianism in Pakistan have always been the function of these two factors. The American selfish interests in the region and the failure of political process since the establishment of Pakistan are the real causes behind religious extremism. Busharrafs war on terror is failing. This war is itself a form of and a cause of growing terrorism in the region. Those individuals involved in militant organizations and terrorist activities should be brought to justice. But it should be done through given constitutional and criminal procedures instead of extra-judicial kidnappings and killings. Because illegitimate and unpopular power has its own logic. It does not distinguish between one type of body from the other - one type of citizen from another - militant or otherwise - when it comes to the question of preserving itself. The history of dictatorships in Pakistan - military or democratic - provide plenty of examples where in the name of National Integrity Development Islamization and more recently Curbing Islamic Extremism and War on Terror the state has suppressed dissent liberties and freedom of its citizens. Notice the list of missing people at the end of the documentary. Recognize the backgrounds of people through their names. Are they only what the Pakistani state likes to call the Islamic Militants. Or the list also includes the Baloch the Muhajir the Pashtoon the Sunni the Shia the Liberal the Human Rights Activist and the Journalist.

To Pakistan now, where at least four people are killed in a car bombing in the provincial capital of Balochistan.
Quetta city\'s deputy inspector general says an explosives-laden car was blown up in one of the busiest areas. The powerful blast rocked the whole area, smashing windows of buildings and shops nearby. No person or group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Quetta has been plagued by sectarian violence, targeted killings, kidnappings and militant attacks. Militants there, have long demanded more autonomy and a greater share of Balochistan\'s natural resources. Militant groups have seemingly operated with impunity as security forces are said to have turned a blind eye to their attacks and kidnappings.

The head of the so-called Free Syrian Army says his forces are ready to join the Syrian army and drive out al-Qaeda-linked terrorists who have taken over militant-held areas.
General Salim Idris has described as very dangerous the militant group calling itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or the I-S-I-S. Thousands of foreign militants have in recent months joined its ranks. General Idris also claimed that besides fighting with Syrian forces, the F-S-A forces have fought another war with al-Qaeda at dozens of different locations over the past six months. The so-called Free Syrian Army also says that it has dropped the precondition for President Bashar al-Assad to leave power before the upcoming Geneva peace conference.

Hundreds of Syrian refugees, fleeing insurgent infighting, have entered the Turkish border town of Akcakale.
The residents of the Syrian border town of Tel Abyad in the northeastern province of Raqqah fled their homes after fierce infighting between al-Qaeda-linked militant groups. Turkish authorities closed the border crossing in Tel Abyad after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant captured the town earlier this week. Up to 100 insurgents from another al-Qaeda-linked group, the Nusra Front, have been captured and shot dead by ISIL militants in the town. The rise of infighting between rival militant groups in Syria comes in the run-up to an international peace conference on Syria, known as Geneva two.
