Iran\'s Deputy Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi says he\'s set to meet with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna later this month. Araqchi, who\'s a member of Iran\'s nuclear negotiating team, said his meeting with Yukiya Amano will take place before the upcoming Iran-I-A-E-A talks set for October 28 and 29. He also said that four experts from the trade, banking, oil and transport sectors will join Iran\'s negotiating team. Tehran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany held two days of negotiations behind closed doors in Geneva in mid-October. The two sides agreed to meet there again on November 7 and 8.

U-S national security adviser Susan Rice is in Afghanistan to meet with President Hamid Karzai. The visit comes a day after the US-Afghan security pact was thrown into limbo after Karzai refused to sign it. Members of the group of former global leaders, known as the Elders, have met with Iran\'s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. During the meeting, Zarif detailed Iran\'s regional policies and said Tehran is ready to take part in promoting peace and stability in the region. The two sides expressed concerns over the current turmoil in the region and emphasized Iran\'s pivotal role in resolving tensions. The Elders also voiced their concerns over the spread of extremism and sectarian violence in the region and urged collective cooperation to counter them. Finding a diplomatic solution to the war in Syria was also another major topic discussed during the meeting. The delegation, headed by Kofi Annan is on a three-day visit to Tehran to meet senior Iranian leaders.

Media personnel from several Middle Eastern countries have met in the Lebanese capital to discuss ways of sharing and distributing information. The meeting hosted by the Arab and Islamic Broadcasting Union comes amid Western attacks on Iranian media.

The so-called Friends of Syria group is meeting in London in an attempt to persuade the foreign-backed Syrian opposition to participate in a peace conference scheduled to be held in Geneva next month.

The first day of the twelfth round of the talks between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency came to an end in the Austrian capital Vienna with the two sides agreeing to continue their negotiations on Tuesday. Monday\'s talks were held at two different levels. At the beginning of the negotiations, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi met with the IAEA Director General Yukio Amano. Araqchi described the meeting as constructive.

The US government is under renewed pressure from pro-Israel lobbyists over talks with Iran. Pro-Israel advocates have met with senior White House officials to seek explanations about recent negotiations with Iran. They\'re worried about the possible easing of draconian sanctions on Iran while they seek a military option down the road. White House officials say they\'ve told the lobbyists the U-S wants to resolve the nuclear issue through diplomacy. The Obama administration also wants Congress to stop introducing new sanctions on Iran in order to give talks a chance. Pro-Israel lobbyists namely AIPAC are pressuring the government to retain harsh sanctions. Some US politicians suspect lobbyists of trying to push anti-Iran measures to a tipping point that could lead to a conflict.
