In Egypt, Journalist Against the Coup, a movement led by journalists affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood has held a press conference about the violations committed since former president Mohammad Morsi was removed from power. The movement said during the past 7 months, 9 journalists were killed and 80 other arrested with 30 of them still in custody. It said the death of journalists on the job has placed Egypt as the most dangerous country for reporting after Iraq and Syria. Other violations were also listed by the movement ranging from the arrest of political party spokespersons and the torture and beatings of journalists while in police custody.

Ten international human rights groups have written to the United Nations about the torture of journalists in Bahrain. The letter, signed by the Media Legal Defense Initiative and the International Federation for Human Rights, among others, has been sent to U-N special rapporteurs Frank La Rue and Juan Méndez. The rights groups have called for an investigation into the arrest, detention, and torture of Mohamed Hassan, Hussain Hubail, and Qassim Zain al-Deen. All three journalists were arrested in August and face trial on charges related to their reporting on the anti-regime demonstrations. Thousands of people, including rights activists and journalists, have been detained and tortured since the uprising began in Bahrain in 2011. Over the past three years, Manama\\\'s heavy-handed crackdown, which is being backed by Saudi forces, has killed scores of people.

The 39-minute clip shows more than a dozen civilians shot dead including two Reuters journalists, Namir Nood-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh, in Baghdad in 2007. Two young children were also seriously wounded in the incident. Following an investigation demanded by Reuters, the US military said the soldiers acted in accordance with the law of armed conflict and the 'Rules of Engagement'. In the run up to the release of this video, WikiLeaks said it had come under aggressive surveillance by the Pentagon. The video was first made public on the website www.collateralmurder.com.

Over the past 3 years, Egypt has turned into an inhospitable place for journalists to work in. In 2013, Egypt was listed as the third most dangerous country for a journalist to work in falling only after Iraq and Syria. According to a newly released report by the Press Freedom Watchdog, 2013 was one of the hardest years for media personnel in Egypt -- both under former president Mohamed Morsi and months that followed his removal. Violations against the press ranged from physical attacks to legal persecution under the pretext of spreading false information Last year, six journalists were killed while on the job. Another danger faced by journalists in Egypt is a growing distrust of the public against foreign news organizations.

The \'Journalists Against Coup\' movement officially declared on Wednesday its boycott of a constitutional referendum slated for mid-January. The movement made the announcement during a demonstration held at the premises of the syndicate of journalists headquarters in downtown Cairo. Representatives from the Youth against Coup Movement were also present in the demonstration. They denounced what they described the bloody government practices, and what they called the comic obscure trial of Mohamed Morsi.
