Deposed Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi has died of injuries he sustained during his capture by the National Transitional Council (NTC) fighters in the northern city of Sirte.

An Iranian firefighting crew, injured after the collapse of a high-rise in the capital Tehran, has died in hospital. Officials for Tehran’s firefighting department say the man had been hospitalized with serious burn injuries. Search teams have been deployed to the area to locate those stranded under the debris. They managed to dig two tunnels to areas where 20 firefighters are believed to be trapped and dead. Unconventional weapons used against Gazans Doctor Mads Gilbert is a member of a Norwegian triage medical team present in the besieged Gaza Strip. The team has exposed that Israel has used depleted uranium weapons in its war on the impoverished territory which is home to 1.5 million Palestinians. He described the conditions inside Gaza in an exclusive Press TV interview. Press TV: What can you tell about the uranium findings? Dr. Mads Gilbert:The findings about the uranium I cannot tell you much about, but I can tell you that we have clear evidence that the Israelis are using a new type of very high explosive weapons which are called Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) and are made out of a tungsten alloy. These weapons have an enormous power to explode. The power of the explosion dissipates very quickly and the strength does not travel long, maybe 10 meters, but those humans who are hit by this explosion, this pressure wave are cut in pieces. This was first used in Lebanon in 2006, it was used here in Gaza in 2006 and the injuries that we see in Shifa [Hospital] now, many many of them I suspect and we all suspect are the effect of DIME weapons used by the Israelis. On the long term, these weapons will have a cancer effect on those who survive. They will develop cancer we suspect. There has been very little research on this but some research has been among other places in the United States, which show that these weapons have a high tendency to develop cancer. So they kill and those who survive risk having cancer. Press TV: And what do you have to say about this? Dr. Mads Gilbert:All that is happening in Gaza here now is against international law, it is against humanity and I think it is against what it means to be a decent person. You don't treat other people like this. Even if you disagree with him… maybe even if you fight with them, you don't treat civilians, children and women like this. And I have an appeal to the Israeli doctors and nurses. They are my colleagues. We belong to the same international community, the medical community. I wish that the good doctors and nurses in Israel tell their government to stop these atrocities. We cannot continue with this. We may differ in opinions, but you cannot treat the civilian Palestinian population in Gaza in this way. Today, they were bombing in Gaza City; we received 150 wounded and more than 50 killed. Press TV: Only at Shifa?! Dr. Mads Gilbert:Yes, here in Shifa. I treated a ten-year-old boy. He had his whole chest filled with fragments from the bomb. On his lap was another person's leg that had been cut off. We resuscitated him and did everything we could do to save his life but he died between our hands. This is such a terrible experience and behind the numbers that you report all the time, there are human beings, families, women, grandmothers, children. That is in fact the reality in this situation. Those who are paying the price for the Israeli bombardments now are the common people, the Palestinian people. Half of the population in Palestine are below 15 years and 80 percent of the people in Gaza live below the level of poverty defined by the UN. Now they don't have food, they don't have electricity. It's cold they don't have warmth and in addition to that, they are killed. This must be stopped. Press TV How many people did you see that are effected by this weapon? Dr. Mads Gilbert: Almost all of the patients we have received have these sever amputations. They seem to have been affected by this kind of weapon. Of course, we have many fragment injuries and burns but those who have got their limbs cut off, constitutes quite a large proportion. You know we have a lot to do. Palestinian doctors, nurses and paramedics do an incredibly heroic job to save their people. Doctor Eric and I are just a small drip in the ocean, but we learn from them. Unfortunately, we don't have the time to do research, we have to save lives, but this question should be researched by the international community.

Two US police officers have been ordered to stand trial in the death of a mentally ill homeless man following a violent arrest last summer. California's Orange County Superior Court Judge Walter Schwarm made the ruling after a hearing that included surveillance video of the confrontation between the officers and 37-year-old Kelly Thomas in the city of Fullerton. Officer Manuel Ramos is charged with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Jay Cicinelli is charged with involuntary manslaughter and assault or battery by a public officer. Both have pleaded not guilty. The officers confronted Thomas while responding to reports that a homeless man was looking into parked cars at a transit center. "This is another victory, on another battle," said Thomas' father, Ron. "We're going to start a new one with the trial." John Barnett, Ramos' attorney, said he would seek another court's review of Schwarm's ruling and did not expect his client would end up facing a jury trial. "We're disappointed that they were held to answer but we will seek review in an appropriate manner," he told reporters after the ruling. "He believes, and he is innocent." Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said during the hearing that Ramos bullied a shirtless Thomas with his menacing remarks and aggressive stance — actions that would have led anyone to fear they were about to get beaten by police. "Any person, any creature on this earth would have fear at that point," Rackauckas told the court during the preliminary hearing. "You're going to fight or flee because this is an imminent threat of a serious beating by a police officer who is there with a baton and a gun and other police officers.... This is going to be a very bad deal," the prosecutor said. Defence attorneys countered that police — who are authorised and trained to use force when necessary — viewed the incident as an encounter with a man who refused to give his name and continued to resist arrest even as multiple officers rushed to assist. The three-day hearing was marked by repeated showing of clips from surveillance video and audio recordings of the confrontation. The footage includes scenes of officers pummelling and pinning down Thomas as he screams that he can't breathe and moans for his father until he goes silent and is taken away by medics, leaving behind a pool of blood. Barnett, Ramos' attorney, said during the hearing that the video — which was introduced by the prosecution — shows that his client made a conditional threat during his conversation with Thomas, stating he wanted the man to start listening and following police orders, such as sitting with his legs stretched out and providing his name to officers. "All that Kelly Thomas had to do was simply comply," Barnett said. "Officer Ramos just lifts him up, he's going to arrest him. ... Not only can he do it, he must do it. He is bound to do it." "Officer Ramos didn't do anything that should or could kill Kelly Thomas," Barnett said, pointing out that his client is often seen on the video at the man's feet. Prosecutors have argued that Ramos punched Thomas in the ribs, tackled him and lay on him to hold him down while Cicinelli — who arrived later on the scene — used a Taser four times on Thomas as he hollered in pain and hit him in the face eight times with the Taser. Thomas lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital. He was taken off life support and died five days later. The coroner's office found that Thomas died from compression of his chest that made it difficult for him to breathe and deprived his brain of oxygen, and facial injuries stemming from his confrontation with law enforcement. In court, Schwartz, Cicinelli's attorney, challenged those findings, noting that testimony by a paramedic who treated Thomas at the scene indicates that Thomas was breathing, although with difficulty, during the confrontation. Schwartz also defended his client's use of the Taser on Thomas, who was still struggling and resisting officers' efforts to handcuff him, and said Cicinelli only swung the Taser at Thomas' hand when the man made an effort to grab the weapon. "To call that a crime is to effectively handcuff our police officers out in the field from dealing with any combative suspect," Schwartz said. The hearing in a Santa Ana courtroom was marked by lengthy testimony from medical experts and graphic photos of Thomas' injuries, including multiple bruises and a bloodied eye, while he was lying on the autopsy table. Attorneys repeatedly played portions of the grainy surveillance video, which was paired with audio from digital recorders worn by some of the officers who were present and which brought some of Thomas' supporters to tears and prompted them to leave the courtroom. The incident last July prompted an ongoing FBI investigation to determine if Thomas' civil rights were violated, an internal probe by the city, protests by residents and an effort to recall three Fullerton councilmembers that is slated for next month's ballot. The recall was sparked after angry residents chastised the council members for failing to take significant action regarding the incident.

Ahmedineejad \"Our enemies and their media have hired some opportunist and mischievous elements and have misused the simple-mindedness of some people to cause unrest,\" the government said in a Thursday statement. It further accused the Western media of \'spreading lies and rumors\' to create doubts over the health of Friday\'s presidential election. Iran\'s European Union envoy criticized the Western countries for their \"support for these trouble-makers and anarchists under the cover of supporting democracy and the voice of the Iranian people\". In a Thursday statement, the Iranian embassy in Brussels said, \"All foreign involvement will have a damaging impact and is rejected by the people and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran\". Incumbent Ahmadinejad was re-elected as the Iranian president on June 12 with almost two-thirds of votes, but his main rival Mir-Hossein Moussavi has rejected the result as fraudulent and demanded a re-run of the election. In the statement, the Ahmadinejad administration called on the security forces to take measures to uproot vandalism and the frightening of the public. Hundreds of thousands of Moussavi supporters have staged daily rallies since the announcement of election results on Saturday, asking the Guardian Council to nullify the election. Despite Moussavi\'s insistence on the peaceful nature of protests, violence flared in early stages of demonstrations. At least eight people were killed in Tehran and many others sustained injuries. Iran has revoked all foreign media accreditations and foreign reporters are not allowed to cover gatherings which are banned as illegal. Moussavi\'s camp has stressed that the post-election rioters are \"not supporters of, or linked to\" the former prime minister, who suffered a crushing defeat in the June 12 poll. The Moussavi camp says that a number of \"miscreants\" are attempting to de-fame the popular figure and his supporters \"by conducting acts of vandalism\" in his name. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has also shed light on the situation. The Leader said on Tuesday that those who vandalize public property and stage violent riots are not related to any of the presidential candidates or their supporters. On Thursday, dozens of Ahmadinejad\'s supporters staged a rally in front of the Justice Department in the capital, Tehran. They also called for strong action against the rioters.

A public inquiry has begun in London into the death of an Iraqi detainee arrested by British troops in 2003. Baha Mousa, who was arrested by the soldiers in Basra and died 36 hours later, was found to have more than 90 injuries on his body.

Renewed violence has broken out in both capital Sanaa and the city of Taiz, with supporters of embattled president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his opponents blaming each other for at least three deaths and hundreds of injuries. UN officials have urged government forces not to attack protesters, while president Saleh has called for negotiations with his opponents. The woman's 17-year-old daughter found her unconscious in the dining room of the house on Skyview Street off Lemon Avenue about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, said El Cajon police Lt. Steve Shakowski. Police identified her as Shaima Alawadi. "Based on the type of injuries Alawadi sustained, and other evidence retrieved at the scene, this case is being investigated as a homicide," Shakowski said. Police did not disclose the contents of the note. Sura Alzaidy, a family friend, said it told the family to "go back to your own country. You're a terrorist." The family is from Iraq, and Alawadi is a "respectful modest muhajiba," meaning she wears the traditional hijab, a head scarf, Alzaidy said. El Cajon police Lt. Mark Coit said the family stated they had found a similar note earlier this month, however did not report it to authorities. The daughter who found her mother told KUSI Channel 9/51 on Friday night that her mother had been beaten on the head repeatedly with a tire iron. She said her mother had dismissed the previous note, found outside the house, thinking it was a child's prank.

On November 29, 2010, Professor Majid Shahriari and Dr. Fereydoun Abbasi were targeted by terrorist attacks; Shahriari was killed immediately and Dr. Abbasi, the current head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, sustained injuries. In November 2011, some of the US presidential hopefuls called for conducting covert operations ranging from assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists to launching a military strike on Iran as well as sabotaging Tehran's nuclear energy program.

On Friday, a Palestinian man was assaulted by Israeli soldiers and settlers in Nablus. Dozens of Israeli staged a rally near the village of Jamma\'in in Nablus during which they chanted racist slogans and called for seizing more Palestinian land. When they were confronted by local Palestinians, Israeli soldiers attacked the Palestinians using tear gas and rubber bullets. 37 year old Ghassan Baker attempted to confront the soldiers who had entered his farm, however he was immediately dragged away and beaten by the soldiers and settlers. Ghassan Baker in the meantime was trying to tell the Israelis that he was wounded and could no longer walk due to injuries and breathing difficulties resulted from tear gas inhalation. More instability in Lebanon. From the north in Tripoli to the south in Sidon and now to the heart of Beirut\'s southern suburbs. A massive car bomb explosion rocked the south of the Lebanese capital causing dozens of injuries and immense material damage. The booby tracked car was parked in the parking lot of a shopping mall. This area which was targeted is a civilian area. Over there you have a shopping mall where people go and buy their goods and you also have civilian buildings. So what is clear is that this attack was aimed at causing a state of terror and fear amongst the civilians.

Deaths and injuries have been left in the Somali capital Mogadishu after a car bomb went off there on Friday. The explosion targeted a convoy of African Union troops. It was the latest in a series of bombings that have targeted the city over the past months, with civilians being the main victims. Security officials blame al-Shabaab local fighters for the attacks including Friday\'s blast. They accuse the al-Shabaab fighters of carrying out the bombings because they have lost their major strongholds to government forces.

Tensions are running high in Lebanon\'s northern city of Tripoli where clashes continue between rival groups. So far, sporadic gunfire between supporters and opponents of the Syrian government has resulted in at least three deaths and several injuries. The Lebanese army has intervened, trying to end the violence. Our correspondent in Beirut Ali Rizk tells us how tense the situation in Tripoli is.

Lebanese resistant movement, Hezbollah says one of its military commanders has been assassinated. Hassan al-Laqqis was assassinated outside his home in al-Hadath neighborhood, southwest of the Lebanese capital overnight. Hezbollah has not released more details about the assassination, but Lebanese security officials say Laqqis was shot inside his car. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Hezbollah says Laqqis had survived previous attempts on his life. The group accuses Israel of carrying out the assassination. The Israeli foreign ministry has rejected the accusation. Laqqis\' funeral will be held later Wednesday.

A car bomb has gone off in a village in eastern Lebanon, causing casualties. The explosion happened near a Hezbollah position in the eastern village of Sbouba. The blast has caused an unspecified number of deaths and injuries. Reports say Hezbollah and Lebanese security forces have been deployed in the area.

A rocket has been fired from Gaza to Israel after Israeli forces shot and wounded a 16-year old Palestinian in the northern Gaza Strip. The rocket fell in an open area in Eshkol Regional Council. An explosion was reportedly heard in the nearby area but no injuries or damage has been reported. The missile came several hours after a Palestinian teen was shot in the leg in Jabalia. The Israeli military claims the teenager was seen damaging a fence. Attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinians have recently escalated. On Sunday, two people were wounded by Israeli tank shells in central Gaza.
