Hundreds of Syrian refugees, fleeing insurgent infighting, have entered the Turkish border town of Akcakale. The residents of the Syrian border town of Tel Abyad in the northeastern province of Raqqah fled their homes after fierce infighting between al-Qaeda-linked militant groups. Turkish authorities closed the border crossing in Tel Abyad after the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant captured the town earlier this week. Up to 100 insurgents from another al-Qaeda-linked group, the Nusra Front, have been captured and shot dead by ISIL militants in the town. Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria have killed at least 50 rival insurgents amid continued infighting among militant groups. Opposition sources say the insurgents were killed in attacks, car bombings and summary executions by militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or I-S-I-L. Sunday\'s deaths came on the third day of infighting that began when militants of the so-called Free Syrian Army attacked checkpoints and bases manned by the I-S-I-L. The clashes have mostly centered in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. Opposition sources say the I-S-I-L militants summarily executed thirty of their civilian and non-civilian hostages after their base was surrounded by rival insurgents in the Harem district of Idlib province. Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Islamic Front, which is the biggest insurgent alliance in Syria, issued a strong warning to the ISIL militants, vowing to fight against the group.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Charles Shoebridge, a former intelligence officer, from London, about the Syrian Army\'s recent advancement into Homs. The following is an approximate transcript of the interview.

More infighting breaks out between militants in Syria as the national army pushes ahead with operations across the country. The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says a militant group calling itself the Islamic Front seized a crossing on the Turkish border from other insurgents. The capture of the Bab al-Hawa crossing came a few days after the Islamic Front took control of some arms depots of the Free Syrian Army. The Islamic Front does not recognize the F-S-A, which is one of the main armed opposition groups fighting the government. Meanwhile, masked gunmen have abducted a prominent Syrian human rights lawyer in Douma, a suburb of Damascus. Razan Zaytouni had accused al-Qaeda-linked insurgents of kidnapping activists and lawyers.

Is the House of Saud on shaky grounds? Well according to various sources, the infighting inside of the tightly controlled monarchy of Saudi Arabia is on the rise. And the Intelligence Chief Bandar bin Sultan is at the center of the tug of war. The sources added that members from several insurgent groups have taken control of a children\'s hospital in Qadi Askar district that is the headquarters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo. Meanwhile, other reports from Syria say at least 20 militants have been killed in a car bomb near the northern city of Dakoush. The attack was reportedly carried out by militants from the I-S-I-L. The recent tension among militant groups fighting the Syrian government has been the deadliest since the conflict began in the war-torn country back in March 20-11.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says he doesn\'t rule out running for president in 2014. In an interview with a Lebanese TV network, the Syrian president said he sees no obstacle to making a bid for re-election next year. Assad has stated time and again that he is not holding onto power and only the Syrian people will determine the destiny of the nation in elections. Commenting on the proposed Geneva II conference, Assad said -- factors not yet in place for peace talks. He cited the threats from al-Qaeda affiliated groups, fierce infighting among the militants, and the widening divisions in the fractured opposition. The US promptly responded to Assad\'s remarks. Secretary of State John Kerry said any attempt by Assad to be re-elected would extend the Syrian conflict. Kerry added that the Syrian opposition would never agree to Assad staying in power.

As Syrian troops cut supply lines for foreign-backed insurgents and retake all but one town in the western region bordering Lebanon, militants look set to meet another setback ahead of a peace conference in Geneva. The rise in the number of extremist groups and the recent bloody infighting has led to differences among foreign states supporting the insurgency, among them Saudi Arabia is seen as the strongest supporter, prepared to go to the extremes to guarantee victory. With US President Barack Obama being blamed for manipulating intelligence against the Syrian government over a chemical attack in August, it looks like the equations of the Syrian war are rapidly changing

Rival insurgent groups continue to fight each other in syria. In the latest development, the so-called Free syrian Army has seized a compound held by al-Qaeda-linked militants in syria\'s northwest. Opposition sources say the F-S-A insurgents seized the compound after chasing fighters loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in Aleppo\'s Manjib town. The I-S-I-S militants reportedly used car bombs for the first time to defend the compound. The foreign-backed battle against the syrian government has turned into full-scale infighting in recent days. The al-Qaeda-linked group has suffered huge losses in two days of fighting against an alliance of militant groups in Aleppo and Idlib provinces. Dozens from both sides have been killed in clashes since Friday.

Previously, the clashes were mostly in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, but opposition sources say the fighting has now spread to the east.

Syrian opposition sources say that hardly any insurgents from the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are left in the northern city of Aleppo. The UK based Observatory for Human Rights says ISIL militants withdrew from the Inzarat neighborhood of Aleppo after clashes with militants from the so-called Free Syrian Army and other insurgent groups. The Observatory says the foreign-backed F-S-A had earlier overrun the I-S-I-L\'s headquarters in the city. The bodies of at least 42 people executed by I-S-I-L were reportedly found at the base. Meanwhile, some reports suggest that the ISIL has taken the upper hand against the FSA in the city of Raqqah. The al-Qaeda-linked group is said to be in control of several key positions in the city. A large number of people, including civilians, have been killed during the infighting.

The Syrian army continues its clean-up operations in several areas across the Middle Eastern country, killing a number of foreign-backed militants. According to a military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the army killed 19 militants in al-Koum village in Lattakia countryside. In al-Rabea village, the army stormed the militants\' hideouts, killing a number of them. Elsewhere, in Salma countryside, the Syrian troops continued their operations, killing 23 militants and wounding 43 others. In the village of Ghamam, the army killed nine militants fighting against the government. Moreover, scores of foreign-backed militants were killed or injured in similar operations in many areas in Aleppo and its countryside. Meanwhile the infighting among al-Qaeda-linked militants and armed opposition groups has claimed more than 1,000 lives over the past two weeks.
