[10 Aug 2012] Syrian army cleans Allepo main parts from armed groups - English
It's our second visit to Salah Eldien. Syrian army has restored order here. Foreign backed armed groups have declared a tactical withdrawn blaming it on their sponsoring countries for shortage of weapons, manpower and ammunition. But there is something different in this visit. We didn't have to hide from snipers. We didn't have to run from wall to wall trying to avoid someone sitting a kilometer away trying to kill anything that moves.

Takfiri groups fighting the Syrian government forces have abducted more than 50 Kurds, among them children in the past three days.
The kidnapping took place in the towns of Minbej and Jarablus in the northern province of Aleppo. This comes weeks after Kurdish fighters pushed out the Takfiri groups from the region. There has been a fierce battle between the two sides over the control of the region in the past three months. In July, the militants kidnapped some 200 Kurdish civilians in the town of Tal Aran and Tal Hassel in Aleppo. Only a few of the hostages have been released since then.

As the Syrian army makes more advances against foreign-backed terrorist groups, the United States and its Western allies are seeking to establish closer ties with the al-Qaeda-linked groups in order to shift the balance of power in favor of the insurgents. Now the US says it is ready to hold talks with an al-Qaeda-linked group called the Islamic Front. What are the motives behind this policy shift?

The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says Israel and the United States have infiltrated terrorist Takfiri groups operating in the Middle East region and are using them to promote their own interests.
Nasrallah, speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate the martyrdom of resistance commanders, noted that the Saudi-backed Takfiri groups are seeking to sow sectarian discord throughout the entire region. He described the al-Nusrah Front and the militants associated with the group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria -- or ISIL -- as the best examples of the Saudi-backed Takfiri mindset. Nasrallah defended the fact that Hezbollah members are fighting against Takfiri groups in Syria, saying that the Lebanese resistance movement has not changed its policy in this regard.

In a speech commemorating the liberation of South Lebanon from Israeli occupation in 2000, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah blasts the Takfiri Wahhabi mentality that is spreading in the post-Arab Spring Middle East and calls it a disease that should not be ignored. He specifically gives examples from Iraq and Pakistan where these Takfiri groups killed people indiscriminately, not necessarily based only on sectarian affiliation but also based on political views.
He also warned that this disease that has been heading to Lebanon poses a grave danger to the Lebanese society at large (Muslims and Christians), including all Lebanese institutions. He also considered the Syrian provinces adjacent to Lebanon as a critical area to prevent these groups from flooding into Lebanon.

The Syria peace talks or the Geneva TWO conference remains in doubt amid wrangling between foreign-backed opposition groups.
Arab League Chief Nabil al-Arabi has announced that the Geneva conference will be held on November 23. But the UN-Arab league envoy has refused to announce a date. Lakhdar Brahimi-- who\'s on a tour of the Middle East to drum up support for the initiative-- says the talks can only be held if a credible opposition takes part in it. The remarks were in reference to a growing rift among foreign-backed opposition factions. The so-called Syrian National Coalition says a decision whether to attend the talks would be taken in the coming days. But, it remains unclear whether it can enforce any agreement as dozens of militant groups have recently rejected the umbrella group as their representative.

International rights groups are calling on Saudi Arabia to allow women to drive ahead of a planned day of defiance against a ban on female drivers.
Amnesty International wants Saudi authorities to respect women\'s right to drive. The group has expressed astonishment that in the 21st century, Saudi authorities continue to deny women the right to legally drive a car. Human Rights Watch has also thrown its weight behind the Saudi women\'s campaign dubbed \"Women to Drive\". Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have threatened women not to join the campaign on Saturday. Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world which forbids women from getting behind the wheel. Recently, dozens of women have defiantly posted online videos of themselves driving in several Saudi cities.

Saudi women\'s struggle for more rights is once again under the spotlight with international rights groups expressing support for them. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have thrown their weight behind a campaign calling on Saudi women to get behind wheels on Saturday in defiance of a ban on female drivers. But some signs suggest women have a tough road ahead of them in a kingdom that has been widely criticized for rights violations.

South Asian rights groups have called for a boycott of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar unless the Persian Gulf state improves conditions for migrant construction workers. Migrant workers, mostly from South or Southeast Asia, suffer alarming levels of exploitation. There are many reports of non-payment of wages and hazardous working conditions. Qatar is currently in the middle of a construction boom meant to prepare the gas-rich nation for the world\'s most popular sporting event. Amnesty International has also censured Qatar over its mistreatment of migrant construction workers, describing their conditions as deplorable.

Sources in Egypt say the nationalist movements have stressed that what\'s happening in Syria is a Western and US-backed plot used by armed Salafist groups there. They say thousands of Egyptians from different political groups and the National Guard are ready to foil this plot, and join the Syrian army to help President Bashar al-Assad. Nasserism is an Arab nationalist political ideology based on the thinking of Egypt\'s second president Gamal Abdel Nasser.
