[29 April 2012] US Drone War - News Analysis - Presstv - English Some of the mainstream media in the US are reporting it as "US relaxes drone rules in Yemen." In reality, the US has approved a new authority that allows US assassination drones to fire on targets in Yemen even when their identities aren't known: it's called signature airstrikes. How could these drones, which have been described as targeted killings, not that they have hit their targets all the time, to have resulted in many civilian deaths, now fire at targets whose identities are not known? In this news analysis, we will ask our guests whether this is another way for the US to okay civilian deaths as collateral damage, and whether it is a sign to spread this to other countries in order to keep America in a perpetual state of war.

Civilian casualties have long been a source of friction between the Afghan government and US-led foreign forces and have dramatically increased anti-US sentiments in Afghanistan. The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism. While the war removed the Taliban from power, insecurity continues to be high across the country. This little girl is another war victim. Aysha has been badly wounded by a US air strike. President Karzai paid her a visit in a military hospital. Aysha lost her whole family when a US drone hit their home in eastern Kunar province. The Afghan president complained to US Secretary of State here in Kabul about what happened to Ashya. But drone attacks continue to target civilians. The US is not willing to stop them and its military men are very proud of their drones. They claim the air strikes target terrorists and there is no collateral damage. People here, however, find their claim funny asking themselves that how can a child---like-Ashya---be a terrorist? Aysha does not know why her dad and mom were killed. But she knows who is responsible for their deaths. Drone war expanded here right when US President Barack Obama took office. Campaigning for the White House in 2008, Obama did say that he would embrace drones to go after what he named 9/11 terrorists. But it seems the wrong people have been targeted. So it is mostly civilians who continue to remain vulnerable to drone attacks. Over 447 strikes were launched here last year, killing and wounding about 2,500 people. This year may prove to be even deadlier.

Babak Zanjani, Iranian billionaire topic of controversy in Iranian parliament. Twelve Iranian parliamentarians wrote a letter and asked the heads of the three branches of government to look into Babak Zanjani\\\'s case and accused him of corruption. Earlier in a press conference the head of Iran\\\'s Supreme Audit Court had talked about Zanjani. Some parliamentarians agree that simply putting this much money at the disposal of one individual without any collateral is not right and President Ahmadinejad and his cabinet had better choices. Some other representatives believe that Zanjani is not alone The spokesman for Iranian Parliament\\\'s Legal and Judicial Commission. Esfenani, thinks that accusing any person before he or she is convicted in a court of law is illegal. Experts say Babak Zanjani\\\'s estimated net worth is around 13.8 billion dollars. Iranian judiciary officials say that there is no corruption case referred to it by the parliament\\\'s article 90 commission.

Drones frequently fly apparently to find and hit at suspected militants but mostly they kill civilians.
