China has warned the United States to be cautious in its words and actions with regard to territorial disputes involving China and its neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warning comes amid a diplomatic wrangle over Beijing\\\'s newly announced air defense zone in the East China Sea. Before this, Washington had warned Beijing against imposing an air defense zone over both the South China Sea and East China Sea. US State Secretary John Kerry said recently that Washington would help its regional allies in protecting their territorial waters. China and its neighbors lay similar claims to parts of the strategic and resource-rich seas. The development comes days after Chinese fighter jets chased the US and Japanese military aircraft inside China\\\'s newly declared Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. Chinese defense authorities say they have sent more fighter jets to the zone. The Chinese air force described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law. China says foreign aircraft passing through the airspace, including passenger planes, will have to identify themselves to Chinese authorities. The zone includes the skies over islands at the heart of a territorial dispute between Japan and China. China is also locked in territorial rows with the Philippines over wide swathes of the South China Sea and has said it might set up a similar zone there. Senior Chinese officials have repeatedly called on Washington not to take sides over the issue.

The US trade deficit with China reached $315 billion last year, a record unsurpassed in the history of such statistics. In April, US exports to the 27-nation European Union fell 7.9 percent. Exports to the EU in the first four months of 2013 were down 7.4 percent compared to the same period in 2012. Exports to the United Kingdom were the lowest since May 2009, while those to China declined 4.7 percent. Imports from China surged 21.2 percent, lifting the contentious US trade deficit with China to $24.1 billion from $17.9 billion in March. China keeps investing in its future, creating jobs, building infrastructure, funding education and technology and its GDP soars. And America keeps sliding into a no-growth economy, to 1% GDP growth in a generation. According to Robert Fogel, the director of the Center for Population Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and winner of the 1993 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics; \"In 2040, the Chinese economy will reach $123 trillion, or nearly three times the economic output of the entire globe in 2000. China\'s per-capita income will hit $85,000, more than double the forecast for the European Union, and also much higher than that of India and Japan as China moves \"from a poor country in 2000 to a superrich country in 2040.\" America\'s per-capita wealth may be higher, says Fogel, but \"China\'s share of global GDP - 40% - will dwarf that of the United States (14%) and the European Union (5%) 30 years from now.\" China has been one of the fastest growing markets for US goods, and exports to that country were up 4.8 percent for the first four months of 2013.

A territorial dispute between China and Japan seems to be far from over. In the latest development, Beijing has sent four coastguard vessels to the disputed islands in the East China Sea. The move follows Beijing\'s mention of war after Tokyo approved a plan to shoot down Chinese drones if they fly over Japan\'s airspace. China has threatened to take firm countermeasures, if Japan fires on its drones. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has accused China of trying to change the status quo in the region by force, adding that\'s why Tokyo is expected to take a leadership role over regional security issues. The relations between the two Asian powerhouses have been strained particularly over a group of disputed islands-- known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. Both countries claim sovereignty rights over the uninhabited resource-rich islands that are currently under Tokyo\'s control.

Another row could be brewing between China and Japan, this time over a disputed gas field. On Wednesday Japan\'s chief cabinet secretary Yoshihide Suga expressed serious concern over the building of a drilling rig by China, near an offshore gas field claimed by both countries in the East China Sea. China\'s unilateral development of the field, he said, was something his nation could not accept. At China\'s Foreign Ministry, spokeswoman Hua Chunying has dismissed the complaint.

China\'s national Bureau of Statistics has released new figures on the country\'s economic outlook. The figures show China\'s economic growth was 7.5 percent in the second quarter of 2013-down from 7.7 percent in the first quarter of the previous year and the slowest pace in 23 years. Figures also show China\'s GDP has been staying under 8% for five straight quarters, which is a clear sign of distress. The government is now setting 7.5 percent economic growth target for 2013. Some economists have warned that China could face economic problems because of over-investment in its industries. China says it has monitored American B-52 bomber flights in its newly-declared territorial air defense identification zone in the East China Sea.

Washington calls Beijing\'s declaration of an air defense zone over the East China Sea provocative. White House spokesman Jay Carney says the United States does not recognize the plan and will NOT comply with it. He says the US will continue to conduct its military operations in the region like before. Carney also says China\'s behavior is not consistent with its role as a major power and called on Beijing to scrap the air defense zone. China says its decision to establish the air defense zone in the East China Sea is in line with international laws and Washington should respect it.

China has condemned Japan for criticizing its new air identification defense zone amid an escalating war of words between the two neighbors. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said the flight zone over a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea violates the freedom of aviation over the high seas and should be canceled. But China has once again defended the move-- saying Abe is using the situation to QUOTE maliciously slander Beijing. The Chinese Foreign Ministry says the establishment of the zone is in line with international laws and does not affect aviation freedom. Tensions have been running high between the two Asian powerhouses in the past year over the Japanese-controlled archipelago. Both countries have scrambled jets and carried out patrols in the area.

India is expanding its fighting capability against China. 50,000 additional troops will be deployed on the Chinese border. They will be specially trained and equipped for mountain warfare. All of the Indo-China border falls in the high Himalayas. The two countries have a longstanding border dispute. It led to a bloody battle between them in 1962. India accuses China of occupying 38,000 square kilometers of its territory in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, while the government in Beijing lays claim to 90,000 square kilometers of land in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India.

Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani has called on China to stand against what he described as the excessive demands of certain countries in nuclear talks with Tehran. President Rouhani told his Chinese counterpart over the phone that China is an important country with significant responsibilities over international issues. He said Tehran expects Beijing to play a stronger role in the efforts to solve the dispute over Iran\'s nuclear program. Rouhani says Tehran is determined to settle the issue within the frameworks of international law. Shi Jinping, for his part, praised what he described as smart steps by Iran over its nuclear program as well as its foreign policy agenda. He says a peaceful resolution of the case will only happen when the nuclear talks are based on mutual respect and the principle of equality.

The world's longest bridge over sea water has opened in opened to general traffic on in China's eastern coastal city of Qingdao. Jiaozhou Bay is located on the southern coast of the Shandong Peninsula in East China. It separates Huangdao District from Qingdao City and borders on two other cities, Jiaozhou and Jiaonan. The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, with a total length of 42.4 kilometres would easily cross the English Channel and is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the American state of Louisiana. Built in just four years at a cost of 55.5 billion pounds, the sheer scale of the bridge reveals the advances made by Chinese engineers in recent years.
