Bahrain\'s regime forces crack down on protesters who are mourning for a 17-year-old youth killed by government troops a day earlier.
The protesters have held a funeral for Ali Khalil al-Sabbagh in the village of Bani Jamrah, west of the capital Manama. Sabbagh was shot dead by regime forces there on Tuesday. He\'s the latest victim of the ongoing crackdown by the Al Khalifah regime on dissent. Police, however, say he died after a bomb he was holding in his hands, went off. They also claim that he was wanted for criminal offences. Bahrain has been the scene of pro-democracy rallies for more than two years now. The Al Khalifah is responding with heavy-handed tactics which have led to scores of deaths and thousands of detentions.

Saudi authorities have warned against a campaign to give women the right to drive in the conservative kingdom.
The warning comes as Saudi female activists are gearing up against a long-standing driving ban, with more defiant women already getting behind the wheel. More than 50 videos showing Saudi women driving have been posted online over the past two weeks. A video, which went viral on the Internet this month, shows a fully veiled woman driving in the capital Riyadh as passing drivers give her a thumbs-up. Under the slogan, Women\'s Driving is a Choice, female activists have called for a demonstration on Saturday against the ban in the country. One Saudi woman by the name of Manal al-Sharif, who was put behind bars a couple of year ago for posting a video of herself while driving, says Saudi women are determined to drive.

The Syrian army steps up its attacks against foreign-backed insurgents and their strongholds across the country.
Army units ambushed militants of the Liwa\'a al-Islam, a brigade of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in Eastern Goutah, near the capital Damascus, killing scores of them. Syrian sources say many of the dead were foreign nationals. A large cache of weaponry including anti-tank missiles were also seized. Several militants of anther al-Qaeda-affiliated group known as Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were also killed in clashes with Syrian forces near Aleppo. Meanwhile, people in several towns across the Aleppo Province demonstrated against armed groups, demanding their pullout from civilian areas. Elsewhere, Kurdish fighters engaged in battles with insurgents in a town near Iraqi border.

In Bahrain, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held a demonstration to show solidarity with a detained journalist.
The protesters called for the release of freelance journalist and photographer Hussain Hubail who was arrested in August on charges of campaigning through social networks and attending unauthorized protests. The Friday\'s protests also called for political reforms and a democratic transition. The opposition said, in a statement at the end of the rally, that the era of authoritarianism, tyranny and monopolizing power has come to an end. Bahraini police clashed with the protesters after the rally west of the capital Manama. The call for the release of political prisoners comes as Amnesty International has condemned the imprisonment of activists in Bahrain, describing the move as appalling. The tiny Persian Gulf kingdom has been gripped by protests calling for the downfall of the Al Khalifah since February 2011.

Reports coming out of Syria suggest that the army has retaken control of the ancient Christian town of Sadad from al-Qaeda-linked militants.
This follows week-long clashes in the town, which is located north of Damascus. Al-Nusra Front insurgents had recently captured key areas of the town, including a checkpoint that gave them control of the western part. The fighting forced many people to flee to the nearby city of Homs or remain trapped in their homes. Sadad has a strategic location near the main highway leading to the Syrian capital.

Scores of people have been injured as riot police in Bangladesh used tear gas and rubber bullets against opposition supporters on the third and final day of a general strike.
A senior officer was seriously injured in the capital Dhaka when protesters hurled a small explosive device at a group of riot police. At least 16 people have been killed in political violence since Friday. The main opposition party led by former premier Khaleda Zia, who has close relations with military leaders, is demanding that a caretaker administration oversee an election scheduled for January. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instead proposed an all-party interim government led by her to oversee the January polls. She says previous caretaker governments have paved the way for a military coup.

Now to Pakistan, where authorities have extended a curfew in the city of Rawalpindi, two days after clashes left at least nine people dead and nearly 70 others injured.
The curfew was clamped in the northern city hours after gunmen opened fire at Shia Muslims who were holding Ashura processions. Right now all the main entry points into Rawalpindi have been blocked by containers as the Shia community prepares to hold funerals for the victims. In the capital Islamabad, telecommunication authorities have suspended mobile phone services. Army troops have also been deployed to Multan in the eastern Punjab province where one person was shot dead. The two blasts outside Iran\'s diplomatic mission in Beirut have left at least 23 people dead. Informed sources say six security guards of the embassy have also been killed.
