Ahmadinejad stands by 9/11 probe call Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says questioning the truth behind the 9/11 attacks does not mean Tehran is apathetic toward the victims of the tragedy. "The event was very suspicious, but I do not wish to pass judgment. I simply tried to offer a proposal for a humane solution to problems that have risen as a result of 9/11,"Ahmadinejad told a press conference on Friday. "We are, of course, saddened by the fact that people were killed in 9/11. We have expressed our sympathy and solidarity with their relatives," the Iranian president added. Those opposing the ouster of Egypt\'s former president Mohamed Morsi have held new protests, calling for him to be reinstated. In recent days, universities in Egypt have been the scene of frequent demonstrations against Morsi\'s overthrow. Protests against the military has led to violence on many occasions which have left hundreds of peopled dead.

Protests by the anti-coup groups calling for the reinstatement of ousted President Mohamed Morsi continue in Egypt\'s universities. This comes despite violent clashes between anti-coup demonstrators and security forces as well as the army\'s supporters. On Wednesday protests spread to Zagazig University where students rallied against disciplinary action taken by the University Administration against 4 Muslim Brotherhood students. Violent clashes had also taken place the day before in the Delta City of Mansoura. There, Morsi\'s supporters clashed with students supporting the military. Security forces intervened to disperse the crowds by firing tear gas. Similar clashes also took place at Cairo University but the Al Azhar University had the flashpoint of anti-coup protests and violence. Morsi supporters staged large protests for 3 consecutive days demanding the reinstatement of the ousted president and the release of students arrested.by the security forces. The clashes in Al Azhar University left dozens of students injured. More than 40 students were also arrested. but the Islamic Students Against the Military Coup said they would continue demonstrating against the military and the interim government untill their demands are met. Since the start of the academic year in September, Egyptian Universities have been the scene of repeated protests and violence, which have disrupted the educational process. Egyptian universities are among places where you can clearly see the effects of societies\' polarization between supporters of Morsi and those backing the military. If no serious reconciliation efforts are made soon, it is feared that clashes and violence could become a frequent occurrence on-campuses around the country.

International rights groups are calling on Saudi Arabia to allow women to drive ahead of a planned day of defiance against a ban on female drivers. Amnesty International wants Saudi authorities to respect women\'s right to drive. The group has expressed astonishment that in the 21st century, Saudi authorities continue to deny women the right to legally drive a car. Human Rights Watch has also thrown its weight behind the Saudi women\'s campaign dubbed \"Women to Drive\". Meanwhile, Saudi authorities have threatened women not to join the campaign on Saturday. Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world which forbids women from getting behind the wheel. Recently, dozens of women have defiantly posted online videos of themselves driving in several Saudi cities.

Saudi women\'s struggle for more rights is once again under the spotlight with international rights groups expressing support for them. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have thrown their weight behind a campaign calling on Saudi women to get behind wheels on Saturday in defiance of a ban on female drivers. But some signs suggest women have a tough road ahead of them in a kingdom that has been widely criticized for rights violations.

Israel\\\'s espionage activities have increasingly become a concern for Lebanon. Beirut is now calling for equipment to block Tel Aviv\\\'s intelligence gatherings. Reports say Lebanese lawmakers as well as foreign, defense and communication ministers will meet with ambassadors of five permanent members of the UN Security Council next week. The European Union\\\'s high representative in Lebanon will also attend the meeting. Lebanese officials are expected ask European countries to sell Beirut anti-spying equipment that it needs to counter Israel\\\'s intelligence activities. Tel Aviv has increased its espionage by installing eaves-dropping stations across Lebanon\\\'s southern border. Beirut says Tel Aviv\\\'s spying activities have negatively affected not only Lebanon but also UN peace-keeping forces.

The anti-coup alliance has offered an exit strategy to end the crisis in Egypt by calling for dialogue with the army, political parties and national figures. The proposal was met with skepticism and stirred different reactions.

UN officials are calling on Israel to end the blockade of the Gaza Strip. They\'re warning that the situation in the Palestinian territory may get even worse. The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees says the Israeli blockade has paralyzed Gaza\'s construction industry. Robert Turner also said that the demolition of tunnels used by Gazans to transfer goods and construction materials to the enclave has put U-N projects on hold. This, after Egyptian authorities also stepped up the destruction of the tunnels in recent months. Meanwhile, another U-N official, James Rawley has also waned about the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory over a lack of fuel there. Gaza\'s fuel crisis has led to the closure of its main power plant in recent months. Israel imposed its all-out land, aerial, and naval blockade on Gaza in June 2007 after the victory of Hamas in elections there.

Thousands of Yemeni demonstrators pour into the streets of the capital Sana\'a after Friday prayers, calling for the downfall of the government. The protesters criticized the government\'s failure to end the violence in the country which has risen in the month of December, following a number of politically motivated assassinations and the attack on Yemen\'s defense ministry which killed over 56 people .

In Syria, insurgent groups continue to fight one another. A group calling itself the Islamic Front has killed and captured a number of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant insurgents in the town of Al-Nairab. The Islamic Front, which is the biggest insurgent alliance, had earlier announced that it would fight against the group. Earlier in the day, Al-Qaeda-linked militants killed at least 50 rival insurgents. The insurgents were killed in attacks, car bombings, and summary executions by militants loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as the ISIL. It was the third day of infighting, which began when militants of the so-called Free Syrian Army attacked checkpoints and bases manned by the ISIL. Previously, the clashes were mostly in the northern provinces of Aleppo and Idlib, but opposition sources say the fighting has now spread to the east.

A hawkish Israeli minister insults US Secretary of State John Kerry, calling his ideas on the so-called peace plan unworthy and obsessive. Moshe Yaalon later issued a statement in which he apologized to Kerry, saying that he had no intention to cause any offense to the United States\\\' top diplomat. The incident, which caused an uproar in Washington, serves as another reminder of the tension underlying U-S-Israel relations. This also has a historical angle. The Iraqi prime minister is calling for a strong International position against the countries supporting al-Qaeda-linked terrorists. He has also urged the world to drain the terrorist\'s financial resources. Maliki was referring to a fresh wave of violence which left at least 75 civilians and security forces dead across the country on Wednesday. The attacks are believed to be related to the Iraqi army\'s operation in the western Anbar province. The operation against the al-Qaeda-affiliated group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- or ISIL-- has now entered the third consecutive week. Iraqi forces have surrounded the city of Fallujah but are waiting first for local Sunni tribes to expel the militants. Maliki has also pledged to punish anyone who cooperates with the terrorists.

In Bahrain, pro-democracy protesters take to the streets in the capital Manama calling for a political solution to the crisis-hit country. Protesters took part in a huge rally dubbed, NO TO DICTATORSHIP, YES TO DEMOCRACY. Their demand is Bahrain be governed based on the will and rights of the people. The protesters say their rights cited in the Constitution have been violated by the regime. The demonstrators have pledged to continue their protests until their constitutional rights are restored and justice prevails. Bahrain has been hit with almost daily pro-democracy rallies since February 2011. The regime has responded with a heavy-handed crackdown.
