[23 June 2012] Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza - English Israeli warplanes carried out a series of air raids in Gaza, targeting many positions across the blockaded coastal territory. People here are angry over what they say the silence of the international community for not taking any action to put pressure on Israel to end its military attacks. Press TV met Abu Shaban family who escaped unharmed after their house was targeted. Israel has stepped up its assaults on Gaza over the recent days. The attacks have claimed over a dozen lives in Gaza since Monday. A number of Gazans, including at least one child, have been killed and many others injured in the latest Israeli attack.International activists say the world has to condemn Israel's military attacks on innocent Palestinians in Gaza and take decisive measures to end the suffering of Gaza's 1.7 million.Israel frequently carries out air raids and conducts ground incursions in Gaza. The blockaded coastal enclave has been cut of from the outside world as Israel controls Gaza's border crossings, airspace and territorial waters, turning the impoverished territory into the world's largest open air prison.

Since the Israeli army's attack on the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara in 2010, Ankara has become increasingly outspoken in support of Gaza, the blockaded Palestinian territory the ship was trying to reach. The support has come in financial terms as well: the estimated $2m per year the Turkish government donated to Gaza before the flotilla attack, has now jumped to $48m. The Union of the Metal Industry Workers in the blockaded coastal enclave has announced that there are around seven thousand workers currently unemployed due to the Israeli blockade and Egypt\'s closure of the borders. About %90 of Gaza factories, 3900 factories, are shut down due to the blockade. Factories have been shuttered due to the shortage of machinery, raw material, and the ongoing power crisis.

Israeli naval commandos stormed a flotilla of ships carrying aid and hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists to the blockaded Gaza Strip on Monday, killing at least 10 passengers in a predawn raid that set off worldwide condemnation and a diplomatic crisis.

No contact has been established with Pakistani journalist Talat Hussain who was on board one of the six ships carrying aid to blockaded Gaza, after Israel attacked the convoy killing at least 16 and wounding 30.

On the night of Sunday, May 30, showing a terrifying disregard for human life, Israeli naval forces surrounded and boarded ships sailing to bring humanitarian aid to the blockaded Gaza Strip. On the largest ship, the Mavi Marmara, Israeli commandos opened fire on civilian passengers, killing at least 9 passengers and wounding dozens more. Others are still missing. The final death toll is yet to be determined. Cultures of Resistance director Iara Lee was aboard the besieged ship and has since returned home safely. Despite the Israeli government's thorough efforts to confiscate all footage taken during the attack, Iara Lee was able to retain some of her recordings. A recent report issued by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) says around 180 Palestinians were killed by Israeli occupation forces in 2011, Press TV reports. According to reports, more than 120 people including children and women have been killed and over 600 injured in the Gaza strip during air raids and ground incursions in 2011. “2011 was the bloodiest year since the end of Israel's war on Gaza. We still continue to suffer from a huge shortage of some types of medicines,” Ashraf al-Qedra of Gaza Health Ministry told Press TV. Israel has been imposing a land and sea blockade on the tiny coastal strip since 2007. It controls Gaza's airspace and territorial waters and restricts the movement of people or goods in or out of Gaza. The Israeli regime waged a 22-day Christmas war on the densely populated coastal sliver in 2008 which left more than 1,400 Palestinians dead including at least 300 children. The offensive also destroyed 4,000 houses and devastated a large portion of infrastructures in the blockaded strip. Israeli military forces also targeted UN-run schools and centers. More than 50,000 people were also displaced as a result of the three-week war. Tel Aviv also used internationally-banned weapons, including white phosphorus bombs, against the Gazans during the three-week war. On December 27, the Israeli military's Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz warned that Tel Aviv would launch another war on the coastal enclave. The Israeli military, meanwhile, frequently bombs the besieged sliver, claiming that the acts of aggression are conducted for defensive purposes.

[12 Aug 2012] Mahmoud Abbas supports closing of Rafah crossing by Egypt‎ - English The West Bank government led by the western backed acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas has expressed its support to Egyptian authorities shutting down of tunnels between the blockaded Gaza Strip and Egypt. Egypt sealed the tunnels last Sunday along with the Rafah crossing following the killing of Egyptian policemen near the border with Gaza. In a press conference held in Gaza, Hamas movement condemned the inciting statements by Mahmoud Abbas. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, there are more than 38 thousand people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip; or 2.4% of the total population in the Gaza Strip are with disabilities. Due to the Israeli blockade imposed on the coastal enclave, disabled people in Gaza suffer two main problems; obtaining a medical permit for treatment outside Gaza, and getting access to required medications not available in the hospitals of the blockaded Gaza. Yasmeen a child of 11, suffered from cancer when she was 9. After a brain tumor, she lost control over her legs and arms. She is home-schooled and refuses to give up on living her life. A United Nations human rights body has criticized the Tel Aviv regime for torturing Palestinian children, saying the Israeli military frequently uses them as human shields in its operations. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said on Thursday Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank and blockaded Gaza Strip are normally not allowed to have their birth registered, and are denied access to health care, decent schooling as well as safe drinking water. The UN report also stated that an estimated 7,000 Palestinian children aged 12 to 17, but some as young as nine, have been arrested, interrogated and detained over the past ten years. Press TV has conducted an interview with Paul Larudee, from the Free Palestine Movement, about this issue.

Egyptian army has increased its crackdown on tunnels between Gaza and Egypt following the toppling of President Mohammed Morsi. These days, you can see Egyptian bulldozers destroying tunnels along the border with Gaza more than any time in the past. Egyptian army has also deployed tanks which have pointed their guns towards Gaza. The once bustling tunnels area nestled between the southern town of Rafah and the Sinai Peninsula looks more like a ghost town. There\'s no more transfer of goods or other vital commodities via the underground lifeline for the blockaded coastal enclave.

At least four Palestinians have been killed in the latest Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip. Casualties occurred when Israeli forces launched an attack on the blockaded Palestinian territory late on Thursday. Reports say five Israeli soldiers have also been injured in the ensuing clashes in Khan Younis south of Gaza.

The Energy authority in the Gaza strip say a shortage of fuel has halted the production of electricity across the blockaded coastal enclave. They say this is because the stock of fuel is zero. The situation results from Israel\\\'s destruction of tunnels used for bringing fuel into Gaza. The Energy authority also accused the Palestinian Authority of charging Hamas too much for its fuel.

A marathon has been held in the Gaza Strip as part of an event celebrating the Universal Children\'s Day. Large numbers of children took part in the competition aimed at highlighting the plight of Palestinians in the Israeli-blockaded territory.

It has been over five weeks since Gaza\\\'s power plant stopped working. This has seriously affected all aspects of life in the tiny and impoverished coastal strip in many ways including water supply, sewage treatment and medical care. Amjad Shawa the director of Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGO) made an urgent appeal to the international community to help alleviate the suffering in the blockaded coastal territory.

It\'s human rights day. But not for Palestinians. Back in 1950 the UN General Assembly proclaimed the tenth of December as Human Rights Day, but decades later Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip still continue to suffer under Israeli human rights violations.

Patients and doctors have protested inside Gaza\'s Shifa hospital as they marked the World Cancer Day. The number of cancer cases has been on the rise in recent years following two Israeli wars on the blockaded coastal strip. An average of one thousand cancer cases has been recorded annually among Gazans for the last two years. The Gaza Health Ministry says the Israeli regime\'s use of internationally banned weapons has sharply increased the number of cancer cases. During the 22-day Israeli war at the turn of 2009, Norwegian Doctor Mads Fredrik Gilbert who volunteered at Gaza\'s Shifa hospital said that some victims had traces of depleted uranium in their wounds. The majority of Israeli high-tech weapons contain depleted uranium. Most cancer patients lived in areas that were heavily bombarded by Israeli forces during the last two Israeli wars. Lack of medicines as well as cancer patients\' inability to receive treatment abroad due to closure of crossings by both Israel and the Egyptian military is putting their lives at grave risk. Experts have said that Israeli forces used internationally banned weapons like White Phosphorous and weapons containing depleted uranium against the civilian population of Gaza. Experts say such weapons are carcinogenic.
