Russia has repeated its allegations that foreign-backed insurgents in Syria were behind the chemical weapons attacks in the country. Russia\'s UN ambassador says the US has provided no proof that the Syrian government was involved in the attacks.
Vitaly Churkin said that the claims that the Syrian government carried out the chemical weapons attacks are not persuasive. He added that Moscow views last August\'s deadly sarin gas attack outside Damascus as a provocation by the militants. The remarks came after a closed-door meeting on a UN investigation into the chemical weapons attacks in Syria. At the meeting, Russia and Western nations remained at loggerheads over who is to blame for the attacks. But UN experts recently said they have credible information that chemical weapons were used against the Syrian army and civilians. However, the U-N report has not determined whether the Syrian government or foreign-backed insurgents were responsible for the attacks.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has called on the Syria\\\'s divided foreign-backed opposition to join the upcoming peace conference in Geneva.
Kerry says the purpose of the Geneva Two conference is to find a way to install a transitional government. The US secretary of state says the opposition can veto any names for an interim leadership, including President Bashar al-Assad\\\'s. Kerry also says that the talks in Geneva are the only way to end the bloody conflict in Syria. The deeply divided foreign-backed opposition will vote Friday on whether to attend the peace talks which are scheduled for next week.

[30 July 2012] US backed militia in Afghanistan changing side - English
A failed strategy! These local militias were created by the U.S military here in Afghanistan to tackle the Taliban militants.
They were first trained and then armed.Their salaries are also provided by the U.S government.
But these groups are now changing sides. About 23 of them have recently joined the Taliban in western Farah province. They are now fighting back against the foreign troops there with their U.S-given weapons.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have reportedly massacred at least 30 civilians in Idlib province. The killings took place as members of an al-Qaeda-linked group-- known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- fired a series of mortar shells on Kafteen village. The insurgents in a separate incident also fired mortar shells on a town in Hasakah province. The attack primarily targeted a police station and led to the injury of a number of civilians. Locals say they\'ve seen some people vomiting after the shelling-- in what could be a sign of a chemical attack.

Protests continue in Egypt despite warnings from the country\'s military-backed government.
Egyptians protested in several cities on Saturday, chanting slogans against the military\'s coup and demanding the release of protestors in jail. This comes after the country\'s minister of interior issued a warning against demonstrations, saying they will be dealt with decisively. Mass protests in Egypt continue amid clashes between supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces. Public protests started following Morsi\'s ouster by the military in July.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria are increasingly using kidnapping as a means to fund their activities in the northern city of Aleppo.
Militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have been named as the main culprits in insurgent-controlled areas. A London-based opposition group says that 80-percent of kidnappings target activists and journalists. Only this week, two Swedish journalists were abducted by insurgents. The missing are a combination of foreign and Syrian journalists. 30 journalists are currently being held and 52 have been killed in the country since early 2011.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have kidnapped 12 nuns from a convent in the Christian town of Ma\'lula. Local authorities say the insurgents have taken the nuns to the nearby town of Yabrud. There is no word on the fate of the nuns, but militants are usually known to kill people they kidnap. The insurgents have entered Ma\'lula several months after they were pushed out of the historic town. The Syrian army has been battling the insurgents in the regions near the capital Damascus. The army has cleared many towns and villages of the insurgents. Sources close to the militants have admitted that government forces have been making significant gains near Damascus and elsewhere in the country.

The Syrian army has seized a weapons and ammunition cache used by foreign-backed militants near the capital Damascus.
The arms cache was found in Darayya farms in the Damascus countryside. It includes mortar launchers, machine guns, night vision goggles, and explosive devices. The Syrian army has seized large amounts of weapons from militants across the country, since the fighting began in 2011. Damascus says the militants receive the arms from some Western as well as regional countries namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey. The Syrian army is battling out the insurgents to push them out of the cities and other areas. It\'s managed to liberate key regions in recent months.

The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says Israel and the United States have infiltrated terrorist Takfiri groups operating in the Middle East region and are using them to promote their own interests.
Nasrallah, speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate the martyrdom of resistance commanders, noted that the Saudi-backed Takfiri groups are seeking to sow sectarian discord throughout the entire region. He described the al-Nusrah Front and the militants associated with the group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria -- or ISIL -- as the best examples of the Saudi-backed Takfiri mindset. Nasrallah defended the fact that Hezbollah members are fighting against Takfiri groups in Syria, saying that the Lebanese resistance movement has not changed its policy in this regard.

Here is al-Qusayr; the most important supply station for foreign-backed insurgents and one of their last strongholds in western Syria. And now, the town becomes a turning point in the government\'s fight against insurgents in the country. The Syrian Army\'s operation in central Syria has reached its final destination in al-Qusayr; the army gave a final warning to the militants to allow the remaining of the 40 thousand civilian population a safe passage out of the town before starting its operation inside Qusayr. Some of the insurgents seized the opportunity and surrendered to the army and for those who wanted to go on fighting, the military operation started.
