US Secretary of State John Kerry has called on the Syria\\\'s divided foreign-backed opposition to join the upcoming peace conference in Geneva. Kerry says the purpose of the Geneva Two conference is to find a way to install a transitional government. The US secretary of state says the opposition can veto any names for an interim leadership, including President Bashar al-Assad\\\'s. Kerry also says that the talks in Geneva are the only way to end the bloody conflict in Syria. The deeply divided foreign-backed opposition will vote Friday on whether to attend the peace talks which are scheduled for next week.

The so-called Friends of Syria group is meeting in London in an attempt to persuade the foreign-backed Syrian opposition to participate in a peace conference scheduled to be held in Geneva next month.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria have reportedly massacred at least 30 civilians in Idlib province. The killings took place as members of an al-Qaeda-linked group-- known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- fired a series of mortar shells on Kafteen village. The insurgents in a separate incident also fired mortar shells on a town in Hasakah province. The attack primarily targeted a police station and led to the injury of a number of civilians. Locals say they\'ve seen some people vomiting after the shelling-- in what could be a sign of a chemical attack.

Protests continue in Egypt despite warnings from the country\'s military-backed government. Egyptians protested in several cities on Saturday, chanting slogans against the military\'s coup and demanding the release of protestors in jail. This comes after the country\'s minister of interior issued a warning against demonstrations, saying they will be dealt with decisively. Mass protests in Egypt continue amid clashes between supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and security forces. Public protests started following Morsi\'s ouster by the military in July.

Foreign-backed insurgents in Syria are increasingly using kidnapping as a means to fund their activities in the northern city of Aleppo. The army has cleared many towns and villages of the insurgents. Sources close to the militants have admitted that government forces have been making significant gains near Damascus and elsewhere in the country.

Nasrallah, speaking at a ceremony held to commemorate the martyrdom of resistance commanders, noted that the Saudi-backed Takfiri groups are seeking to sow sectarian discord throughout the entire region. He described the al-Nusrah Front and the militants associated with the group called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria -- or ISIL -- as the best examples of the Saudi-backed Takfiri mindset. Nasrallah defended the fact that Hezbollah members are fighting against Takfiri groups in Syria, saying that the Lebanese resistance movement has not changed its policy in this regard.
