Pakistan continues to face the blow back of its decision to side with the United States in its so-called war on terror.
A new study shows that a 40 percent increase in terrorist attacks was witnessed in the country after new government took charge in May this year.
The report prepared by the Conflict Monitoring Center reveals that September was the deadliest month as 215 violent incidents were reported.
In those attacks as many as 284 people were killed and over 500 injured.
Pro-Taliban militants have stepped up attacks following a unanimous resolution passed by the country\'s main stream religious and political parties last month to hold talks with them.
The report also says that in the first nine months of 2013, more than 800 violent incidents were recorded in different parts of the country leaving over 2000 people dead and many more injured.
Majority of the public here in Pakistan believe that the country is facing increased number of terrorist attacks due to its alliance with the US.
Official figures indicate that as many as 50,000 Pakistanis including thousands of security personnel have lost their lives in violent incidents since 9/11 attacks.
The current Pakistani government is pushing for a peace deal with the pro-Taliban militants. But many critics here believe that it will be a huge challenge for the administration in Islamabad to achieve that objective if militants continue their attacks.

Parliament has returned from its summer recess and British politics is back on the agenda. The ability to influence another individual is a much sought-after skill. But the ability to influence an entire nation\'s politics can only be imagined.
Maybe we Muslims set our aims too high. Even small changes can greatly benefit the lives of Muslims living in the West.
But how can we Islamically engage in western politics when it takes away people\'s rights, takes their money and harms people in other countries? How can we influence non-Islamic governments?
Well, maybe we can learn from Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) and his influence in Egyptian politics. After all, we Muslims are supposed to imitate the examples in the Qur\'an. Allah in the Qur\'an, when beginning the story of Prophet Yusuf (PBUH) in Surah Yusuf, says: \"We relate to you the best of stories...\"
This week\'s Islam and Life asks: Can Muslims ever influence British politics?

A US appeals court has put Saudi Arabia back as a defendant in lawsuits, saying it had given support to al-Qaeda prior to the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
The federal appeals court in New York City has revived claims by families of victims of the attacks. Another court had previously ruled that Saudi Arabia was protected by a legal privilege which says foreign countries can\'t be sued in American courts. The US says nearly three thousand people were killed in the attacks. It says most of the attackers were Saudi nationals who hijacked planes and flew them into the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington.

Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniya has reached out to West Bank rivals Fatah, saying its members will be allowed back into Gaza, in an effort to promote Palestinian reconciliation.
Haniya stated that the Hamas government will allow all Fatah members who are from the Gaza Strip and who left the territory in 2007 to return, without any precondition. But the Hamas prime minister made exceptions for those accused of killing Hamas members during intense factional fighting that year. Haniya had a phone conversation with Fatah leader and acting Palestinian authority chief Mahmoud Abbas in October, during which he called for a resolution of their dispute and a QUOTE return to national unity.

In a meeting with the Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, Mohamad Javad Zarif said the resistance will undoubtedly be successful in defending the rights of Palestinians. He also touched on the importance of unity and convergence among Muslims. Zarif also said there are attempts to spread Iranophobia in the region, adding that they are meant to downplay the threats of Israel for Muslim countries. The head of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, in turn, said Israel has for many times broken its promises in the so-called peace talks. Ramezan Abdullah also stressed that the only way for Palestinians to go ahead is through resistance.

Jeh Johnson says the issue has become an issue of homeland security. He added that law enforcement and security forces across the world are focused on foreign nationals Heading to Syria including those from the US, Canada and Europe. Western officials are concerned that their nationals fighting the Syrian government become even more radical after joining other insurgents. US authorities have confirmed that militants from some fifty countries are in Syria fighting the government there. Damascus says some western and regional countries are facilitating insurgent infiltration into the country.

Sayyid Hashim al-Haidari addresses a typical mindset of an apologetic Muslim. Islam is the religion of salvation in the hereafter and progress in this world. Once this worldview is in place, Muslims would be able to develop and become strong. Rest assured, without turning back to the Pure Muhammadan Islam, it can never be possible.
