Iranian president Hassan Rouhani says the recent terrorist attack on gas pipeline workers in Iraq targets the Muslim world and those who serve the Iraqi nation. Rouhani made the comment in a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki. The Iranian president said such attacks aim to sow discord among the Iraqi people and damage the growing relations between Baghdad and Tehran. Rouhani said countries that have had a hand in such incidents should be held accountable. Maliki offered his condolences to the people of Iran and said he has ordered for Iranian residents and pilgrims in Iraq to be fully protected. On Friday, gunmen attacked workers at a gas pipeline project stretching from Iran into Iraq, killing 18 people, including 16 Iranians.

The chorus of opposition to US drone attacks is getting louder and louder in Yemen. The Yemeni parliament has banned the drone attacks in a symbolic vote. Anger has been on the rise at the US drone attacks in Yemen. The country has seen several protests against deadly raids by the unmanned aerial vehicles. Washington has stepped up its drone operations in Yemen in recent months. The attacks have killed many people. The US says it\\\'s targeting al-Qaeda linked militants. But many Yemenis call this a violation of their sovereignty. The American drone strikes have killed large numbers of people in other Muslims countries, including Pakistan. The United Nations has condemned the US for using its drones for what the world body calls targeted killings.

Since the US. and Britain first launched their attack in October of 2001, things have been very unstable and insecure in Afghanistan. The country has one of the lowest life expectancies on earth according to the CIA World Factbook. Instability and violence persists as foreign troops continue to occupy the country. UN Ambassador Mohammed Khazee of the Islamic Republic of Iran, explained the efforts that need to be taken in order to improve the situation at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Khazee made clear that in such a process, the self-determination and sovereignty of Afghanistan should be protected. Khazee made specific reference to the problem of narcotic drugs, that resurfaced in Afghanistan, and caused difficulties throughout the entire region, since the overthrow of the Taliban. With foreign troops scheduled to leave in 2014, among many other big changes, many are hopeful that the situation in Afghanistan can improve.

At least five people have been injured in a bomb explosion at a busy area in the Egyptian capital Cairo. The attack came two days after another deadly blast at a police station in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura.

Israel fires at least 24 tank shells into Lebanese territories following a rocket attack in the north. The Israeli army says two Katyusha-style rockets launched from Lebanon landed near the town of Kiryat Shmona. In response, the Israeli artillery fired a barrage of shells into the Lebanese border region of Arqub. In both attacks, uninhabited areas were targeted, causing no injuries or damage. The area has remained mostly quiet since a month-long war in 2006 between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. But there\\\'s been sporadic rocket firing from Lebanon-- carried out by al-Qaeda-affiliated groups including the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

State television reported that the violence took place near the university\\\'s main entrance. Two student protesters were killed yesterday during similar protests. More than 100 others were also arrested. Egypt has been witnessing mass anti-government protests since the army toppled the first democratically-elected president in July. Security forces have intensified their crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood supporters after the interim government designated the group as a terrorist organization. The Brotherhood has been organizing anti-government protests. Human Rights Watch denounced the decision as politically-motivated and against the peaceful activities of the group.

Eyewitnesses say security forces have attacked students at the dormitory of Cairo\\\'s al-Azhar University. Several were injured. The security forces also used tear gas and birdshot at students at Zaqaziq University in Sharqiyah province. Egypt has recently started a crackdown against university students protesting what they call an army coup against former president Mohamed Morsi. A large number of people have been detained for taking part in the protests following Morsi\\\'s ouster in July. The detainees include Muslim Brotherhood figures and supporters. The son of one of the Brotherhood\\\'s leaders were arrested on Monday for alleged incitement to violence.

In the deadliest attack in a Shia neighborhood, two car bombs left at least seven people dead. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. Iraq has been gripped by violence in recent months. The U-N says more than eight thousand people have lost their lives in the violence in 20-13.

israel has launched at least two air-strikes in the Gaza Strip. There has not been any report of casualties yet. The attack comes just a few hours after Palestinians fired a rocket to Israel and Israeli forces shot a Palestinian teen in the leg. The rocket fell in an open area in Eshkol Regional Council. An explosion was reportedly heard in the nearby area but no injuries or damage has been reported. Attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinians have recently escalated. On Sunday, two people were wounded by Israeli tank shells in central Gaza.

Iraq\'s military says it is preparing for a major attack to clear the restive Anbar province of al-Qaeda-affiliated groups. Officials say the militants have killed more than 20 soldiers and a dozen civilians there on Sunday. The extremist militants have been in control of parts of the province in the past days, launching a full-fledged war against the central government. The militants are said to enjoy the support of certain regional countries that benefit from instability in the region.

Israeli soldiers attack Palestinian demonstrators in the Gaza Strip with live rounds and tear gas, wounding at least three of them. The demonstration was held in solidarity with the Gaza farmers who have long been targeted by Israeli forces.

Anti-regime demonstrations rage on in Bahrain, despite the heavy-handed crackdown on protesters. In the latest round of protests, regime forces used tear gas to disperse protesters in Abu Saiba, west of the capital Manama. Earlier on Friday, a mass rally was held to condemn a controversial ruling by a Bahraini court which disbanded a Shia Muslim clerical body. The verdict against the Islamic Scholars Council came in a lawsuit filed by Bahrain\'s Justice Ministry accusing the organization of promoting sectarianism. The move has been criticized by the opposition and human rights groups, who say it is part of the regime\'s efforts to silence the voice of dissent. Since 2011, anti-regime demonstrations have been held almost every day in Bahrain, in defiance of the deadly crackdown.

The Syrian army has launched an offensive in the strategic Qalamun region to retake the town of Yabrud from al-Qaeda-linked militants. Security sources say the army is advancing around the town and is expected to take control of the town soon. Yabrud has been under the control of militants since 2011. It\'s the last major town in the Qalamun region the army\'s fighting to retake. The town\'s located near the Lebanese border and explosives used in bombings in Lebanon are reportedly smuggled into the country from there.

Israeli settlers continue to attack Palestinians in occupied territories. In the latest incident, a Palestinian farmer and his family were attacked by a group of Israeli settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron, also known as al-Khalil.
