The catastrophe of al-Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus is growing with each hour. Militants occupying the camp since months blocked the delivery of food and medical aid causing the death of many civilians because of starvation. She is a mother picking up grass as food for her children. And this is where people hunted, killed and ate a dog to survive.
Civilians have dozens of horrific stories to tell. This woman cries for her old and sick husband. People here told Press TV that militants have all the food they need but have refused to give them. After several failing initiatives, Syria based Palestinian factions were able to coordinate with some of the militants to bring in some UN aid into the camp. Several hundreds of food boxes were distributed. The urgent need of food assistance is clearly visible here is al-Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus, as hundreds of people have marched hoping to get a parcel of food aid. People say the distributed aid is not enough in comparison with the number of the needy inside as there are thousands trapped. Though the aid delivered isn\'t sufficient, but the fact that food started flowing in is optimistic. According to Palestinian factions, the Syrian government provided all facilitations for the success of the process. Al-Yarmouk is the largest Palestinian camp in Syria. The factions continue their efforts to clear the camp of foreign fighters and end the violence there.

Initiatives have failed to restore calm to the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp in the Syrian capital Damascus, as foreign-backed militants seem to have no intention to retreat from the area. Several Palestinian factions have been calling for a safe passage for the sick and the elderly. But, their calls have only been met with gunfire.

In Syria, Palestinian refugees at the Yarmouk camp on the outskirts of the capital Damascus are faced with starvation.
Reports from the camp say people have started hunting cats, dogs and donkeys. This is while foreign-backed insurgents are still holed up inside, and government forces keep fighting to force them out. Reports say seventy-eight people, including 25 women and three children, have died as a result of food shortage there. Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed insurgency for nearly three years now.

In Syria, militants have withdrawn from a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Damascus under a deal with Palestinian factions. Palestinian fighters have been deployed to prevent the entry of any gunmen after most insurgents left the Yarmouk camp. Now a Palestinian delegation is set to tour it soon to make sure that all militants have left. Bomb disposal experts will also be sent there following the tour to defuse all explosives and mines before humanitarian aid is allowed in. Thousands of civilians have been trapped in Yarmouk since the Syrian army laid a siege on the camp after fighting broke out between opponents and supporters of the Syrian government there. The nearly seven-month blockade caused famine, claiming over a hundred lives.

Hundreds of people marched at the entrance of al-Yarmuk refugee camp in Damascus in an attempt to reach out to their sick relatives. They were hoping for a successful outcome of an initiative launched by several Syria-based Palestinian factions to evacuate over three hundred sick people trapped inside the camp. But anxious relatives failed to meet their loved ones.
Red Crescent teams were ordered to retreat as armed groups opened gunfire at the humanitarian groups who tried to help the sick out, causing the initiative to fail. This is not the first such initiative to fail. Previously, several armed extremist groups such as the al-Qaeda linked al-Nusra Front foiled peace initiatives and remained occupying the camp. In 2012, tens of civilians were killed and thousands of others displaced after foreign-backed militants targeted the same refugee camp. According to the doctors in charge of following up the initiative, dozens of sick people remain trapped inside al-Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus. With the lack of basic needs inside, many families here see no end to the humanitarian crisis in the near future.

This is al-Yarmouk camp, which is home to Palestinian refugees living in the Syrian capital Damascus. Around a million Palestinians had lived there before the camp was fallen into the hands of foreign-backed militants nearly two years ago. Now, it\'s home to only ten thousand Palestinians.
Efforts to provide the Palestinian refugees with food have failed for several times in the past. This happened due to the fighting between the army and insurgents as well as attacks by the militants on aid convoys.
