No More US Vetoes at the UN It’s time. It’s time, finally, after forty years for the United States to do the right thing for the people of Palestine. Will they? During Wednesday’s United Nations Security Council debate about Palestinian statehood, once again, the United States announced that it would stand in the way of a vote for Palestinian self-determination. This isn’t the first time. Nor the second, or tenth or twentieth time. In fact, it’s the forty-first time. Forty-one times during the last forty years, the United States has said no, one way or another, to the Palestinian struggle for human rights. Forty-one times, in votes at the UN Security Council, the United States has been the only country to use its veto to override the votes of every other member. Forty-one times, the US has been the one country to protect Israel no matter how many settlements it builds, orchards it destroys, or acres it takes. The one country to say no to democracy, fairness and justice for Palestinians and yes to more pain and destruction for both Palestinians and Israelis. Now, as soon as this September, the United States will vote one more time. It’s up to us to make this the last time. Join me in telling U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Ambassador Rice that it’s time for them to vote for justice. They must not veto for the 42nd time. The whole world will be watching. You. Me. Millions of people from around the world will be watching and hoping that the U.S. will not block UN recognition of Palestine as a member state. Our leaders must hear from us: This time, vote yes. We know that the vote is just one step, and only a beginning. It won’t stop the growing pace of Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. It won’t suddenly mean there is a viable Palestinian state, or freedom for those in Gaza, or a just resolution to the problem of refugees. But it will recognize the right to Palestinian self-determination, give our movement additional tools in moving toward a truly just resolution, and give fresh hope to all the people of Palestine and Israel who deserve to live in freedom and democracy. Do we think the US will change and finally do the right thing this time? Probably not. The US will likely again stand alone in the Security Council and once again veto, or vote no with the few allies it can find, like Micronesia and Palau, if the vote goes to the UN General Assembly. But this time, they can’t do it quietly. We won’t let them. This time– this 42nd time– let's make sure the United States is not what keeps the Palestinians from determining their own future, and of being citizens of the world.

Like their counterparts in 770 cities in 80 countries of the world, thousands of Torontonians took to the streets on the International Day of Al-Quds to denounce Zionism and express their complete solidarity with the brutally oppressed, indigenous population of Palestine. The rally in Toronto was led by Jewish rabbis, activists from Independent Jewish Voices and other Jews who want to reclaim the hijacked faith of Judaism from the Zionist extremists. The rally also featured representatives from 150 peace organizations, labor movements, churches, mosques and human rights groups. The attendees, which comprised of men women and children of all ages and faiths, carried signs like \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"We Love Jews, Not Zionists\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\", \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Yes to Islam, Christianity and Judaism, No to Zionism\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\", \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Yes to Torah, Bible and Quran, no to Zionism\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\", \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Yes to Moses, Jesus and Mohammad, No to Zionism\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" and \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"Criticism of Israel is Not Anti-Semitism\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\". Various organizations representing the interests of Israel and settlers in Canada had lobbied hard to stop the rally and tried to intimidate people from attending it, however, their efforts failed miserably and the Toronto city witnessed one of the largest and most organized Al-Quds rallies ever held in the western hemisphere. Some extremists from the radical Zionist organization, JDL, and their Islamophobic hatemongering friends from the Sun News Network tried to harass the attendees but were not successful. The JDL has been designated the terrorist status by the FBI and represents the true face of Zionism and the settler mentality of arrogance, racism and bullying. An anchor of Sun News Network has advocated dropping a nuclear bomb on the civilian population of a Muslim country and their so-called journalists are always shamelessly trying to propagate the Zionist narrative about the indigenous Christians and Muslims of Palestine. However, initiatives like the Al-Quds day have taken the mask off the ugly face of Zionism and today Israel is more isolated in the world than ever before. At the recent UN vote, 174 nations voted against the Israeli position (http://muslimperspectives.com/?p=823, http://muslimperspectives.com/?p=685) The Al-Quds rally organizers, speakers and participants vowed not to get intimidated by Zionist extremists and refused to allow them to turn Canada into one of the Israeli settlements. The Al-Quds rallies in Toronto and the world will continue to grow in future and peace and justice loving individuals will continue to give voice to the voiceless. The future of Israel will not be, and cannot be different from other oppressive regimes in history; whether it is the regime of the Pharaoh or Apartheid, those who commit heinous crimes against the innocent are bound to be defeated. It is high time that the larger Jewish community distances itself from this racist ideology and reclaim the beautiful faith of Judaism from these extremists.

The Peace and Democracy Party --- one of the Kurdish parties in Turkey --- has held a mass rally in the city of Istanbul. Thousands, including representatives and supporters of about 20 more political parties and organizations also attended the rally at Kadikoy square.

Anti-government protesters in Bahrain are trying to make their voices heard as top international officials gather in Manama for a security conference. Thousands of people rallied in the village of Sa\'ar near Manama and at some points the demonstrators clashed with regime forces. Police attacked the protesters with tear gas and sound bombs trying to disperse them. Senior officials including those from Britain and the United States are attending the two-day Manama dialog forum. U-S Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will also address the meeting. Bahrain which hosts the U-S Navy\'s fifth fleet has cracked down on protests since the revolution began in 20-11.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has voiced doubt about Washington\'s determination to reach an agreement on Iran\'s nuclear energy program. Iran\'s foreign minister said Washington\'s talk about new sanctions in recent months has caused a great deal of concern in Iran about whether the U-S is serious about wanting to reach an agreement. He said it is still possible to reach a deal on Iran\'s nuclear energy program because they have no other option and the only way to resolve the issue is through negotiations. Zarif made the remarks on the first day of talks in Vienna between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany on reaching a permanent agreement on Iran\'s nuclear program. Earlier, Zarif said that the deal is achievable but would take more than one or two sittings to reach.

Over 20,000 Canadians belonging to 70 different Mosques, Churches, Synagogues and anti-war, civil and human rights organizations came together for the historic rally held in Queen\\\'s park Toronto on July 26, 2014. The speakers and participants strongly denounced the support of Stephen Harper\\\'s government for the war crimes committed by the state of israel. They condemned the one-sided and unfair approach that does not represent the Canadian values or the opinion of the majority of the populace and vowed to change the political representatives that pander to the Zionist lobbyists. The Al-Quds day rallies were held in over 800 cities in 45 countries and were attended by tens of millions of individuals who are committed to giving a voice to the voiceless population of the occupied Palestine. Every year, the support for Palestine grows and the apartheid state of israel is more isolated and exposed today than ever before. It is only a matter of time before it is forced to end the illegal occupation of Palestine.

They pledged to work together with the Jews, who oppose the racist and inhumane policies of israel , to give a voice to the voiceless Palestinians. Many of the attendees pointed out that Canadians, Americans, French or citizens of any other country will never accept if the Zionist came to their land and tried to expel them forcibly from their homes by claiming that they are the chosen people and their god has gifted the land to them. There was a small group of counter protestors representing the illegal settlers and the state of israel. They primarily consisted of members of B’nai Brith and the Jewsih Defence League. The former has been credited with the creation of the terrorist state of israel and its continued illegal occupation and the later has been declared as a terrorist organization due to its violent activities against innocent civilians. Despite the best efforts by the representatives of israel in various countries to silence the protest against the apartheid state, the number of cities participating in the Al-Quds rallies and the number of organizations signing up for the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement continues to grow. The day is not far, when Palestine will be free and the war criminals in israel will be prosecuted for their crimes against humanity.

It was in February 2011 when thousands of Bahrainis most of them from the country's Shia majority took to the streets to demand political reform. The Bahraini government reacted to the protests with a mixture of violent repression, and offers of limited concessions. More than seven months later this time in New York City and on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Bahrainis and their supporters gather to call on the government of Hamed Bin Khalifa to end its brutal oppression against its people. While the gathering is a humble one, the demonstrator's voices are loud and clear, they're calling for a free Bahrain for all. The demonstrators stand united in front of the Bahraini mission where the Kingdom's ambassador to the UN is rumored to be having lunch with King Khalifa, the ruler of Bahrain. While the ill treatment of the Shia population has made headlines around the world since protests erupted, for many demonstrators here the rally is about upholding core human values, regardless of religious affiliations. Hussain Abdullah, Director of the advocacy group Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain says the majority of the population are living under state oppression and the government needs to know that the voices of reason will not remain silent. With posters and banners in hand and the Bahraini flag raised in the air the demonstrators hope gatherings like these big or small will garner the attention and support of the international community.

This general imperative undoubtedly calls for greater commitment from religious scholars, political leaders, intellectuals and youth than the others and requires them to be at the vanguard of the struggle. The clear and living message of the Noble Qur’an is addressed to us: You are the best nation ever brought forth for mankind: you bid what is right and forbid what is wrong, and have faith in Allah. (3:110) In this majestic address the Islamic Ummah is declared as one which has been brought forth for the sake of humanity. The aim of its birth is the good of mankind and its deliverance. Its major duty is to urge what is good and to forbid evil while maintaining unshakeable faith in God. There is no ‘right thing’ (ma’ruf) more significant than rescuing nations from the satanic claws of the global Arrogance, and there is no ‘wrong thing’ (munkar) uglier than dependence on the Arrogant and servitude to them. Today the major duties of the elite of the Islamic Ummah is to provide help to the Palestinian nation and the besieged people of Gaza, to sympathize and provide assistance to the nations of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Kashmir, to engage in struggle and resistance against the aggressions of the United States and the Zionist regime, to safeguard the solidarity of Muslims and stop tainted hands and mercenary voices that try to damage this unity, to spread awakening and the sense of responsibility and commitment among Muslim youth throughout Islamic communities. The glorious spectacle and stage of Hajj provides us with an opportunity for the fulfillment of these duties and summons us to intensify and redouble our resolution and efforts.
