The interior ministry said in a statement that Morsi would not be allowed to receive any visit from January the second for a period of one month. His family says the move infringes on basic human rights. Egypt\\\'s anti-coup alliance has expressed fear over the safety of the country\\\'s first democratically-elected president, who was ousted in a military-backed coup. Morsi is to stand trial on Wednesday before a Cairo court over his alleged role in the killing of protesters in December 2012. His other charges include espionage and orchestrating prison breaks. Morsi\\\'s supporters have planned a mass rally for Wednesday.

A Bahraini court has sentenced 16 Shia activists to seven years in prison each for taking part in anti-government protests. This is the latest in a series of convictions the Bahraini regime has imposed against protesters - among them prominent rights activist Nabil Rajab. Rajab was arrested in late 2012 and is currently serving a two-year sentence. Rights groups have repeatedly called for his release but Bahraini authorities have refused to free him from jail. The arrests and trials come against the backdrop of unabated protests in the Persian Gulf Kingdom against the rule of the Al Khalifah monarchy.

The Afghan government is about to release dozens of inmates from Parwan detention center north of the capital Kabul. Officials say 65 inmates will be set free within the next 24 hours. The government says it does not have enough proof to keep the inmates behind bars. But the United States has already voiced concern over the release of the prisoners. U-S military officials say some of the prisoners are dangerous criminals who have links to al-Qaeda militants. Washington also says their release could pose a security threat to the future of Afghanistan. The U-S handed over control of Parwan prison to Afghan forces back in March 20-13.
