The Canadian government has been spying on its people by monitoring their telephone records and Internet data, Press TV reports.
Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail reported on June 10 that Defense Minister Peter MacKay had approved a \"metadata\" surveillance program in 2011 that tracks online activity and phone calls in search of suspicious activities.
However, in response to a question whether the Ottawa government was monitoring the phone and email records of the Canadian people, MacKay claimed that the \"program is specifically prohibited from looking at the information of Canadians.\"
\"This program is very much directed at activities outside the country, foreign threats in fact,\" he added.
The program, introduced by the former Liberal government in 2005, was put on hold on account of concerns that it could lead to warrantless surveillance of Canadians.
But according to the daily, the program was quietly reinstated in 2011, after MacKay signed a ministerial directive, which is not subject to parliamentary scrutiny.

While a 94-year old Nelson Mandela lay critical in his hospital bed. British National Party leader Nick Griffin\'s comments on twitter, calling Mandela a murdering old terrorist caused an outcry across the country.
Today Nelson Mandela is hailed a hero in Britain, where a statue of him stands tall outside parliament. But that has not always been the case. And Nick Griffin\'s comments reflect exactly the opinion Britain had towards Mandela at the height of the South African struggle against apartheid.

If one protest message reverberated in Buenos Aires City this week, it was clearly Argentineans outrage and anti-imperialist clamor.
The decision by France and Portugal to reject air permits to Bolivian President Evo Morales forcing his plane to land in Austria on suspicions it was carrying former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, took anti-US demonstrators to the streets.
Rallying outside the embassy of Bolivia in the Argentine capital city, they called to support the current process of Latin American integration.

A Bahraini opposition group says the British government has a negative attitude to the revolution in the Persian Gulf state and rather supports the suppressive al-Khalifa regime in the country.
Bahrain National Democratic Society’s Secretary General Fazel Abbas told Al-Alam news channel that London’s position is clear from comments by the British ambassador to Bahrain and the change in the al-Khalifa approach to protesters after the Bahraini ruler’s meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron “raise questions about Britain’s role in Bahrain”.
“We are extremely displeased with the British government’s stance,” Abbas added.
Last week, Cameron hosted talks with Bahraini ruler King Hamad al-Khalifa in London but no details of the meeting were made public except a brief statement by the British PM’s office.
“Cameron reiterated Britain’s support for ongoing political reform in Bahrain. The Prime Minister also encouraged His Majesty to continue to demonstrate substantive progress in all areas,” the statement said.
Ahead of his visit to London, the Bahraini dictator amended a law on public gatherings to “ban organizing protests, rallies, gatherings or sit-ins in Manama, with the exception of sit-ins outside (offices of) international organizations\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\".
Ahead of Hamad’s visit on Tuesday, human rights group Amnesty International warned Cameron that Bahrain is displaying “a façade of supposed reform” though the reality is that “critics and dissenting voices are just locked up and silenced”.
Fazel said the Bahraini opposition groups will surely continue peaceful protests, especially the Tamarod demonstration planned for August 14, despite the regime being fully geared up to suppress public rallies in the coming days.
