A German court has ruled that the country is not liable for damages relating to the 2009 bombing of hijacked tanker trucks that killed dozens of civilians in Afghanistan.
The trucks hijacked by members of the Taliban were bombed by American fighter jets at the request of Germany\'s armed forces. But the court ruled that German commanders did not breach their terms of military duty. The airstrike killed about 100 Taliban militants and Afghan civilians who were near the trucks. The incident is one of the most devastating attacks linked to German troops since the end of the Second World War.

At least four British men were killed while fighting alongside al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria.
British newspaper, The Times, reported that three of the British nationals were killed in August as their group attacked the Syrian government forces near the northern city of Aleppo.
The men are believed to be from London. The fourth individual was killed two weeks later while trying to ambush a Syrian army position.
British intelligence agency MI5 says that between 200 and 300 young British men have moved to Syria to fight against the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
The intelligence agency also raised concerns that the British militants would recruit new converts to their cause or even launch attacks in the UK.

Reports coming out of Syria say al-Qaeda-linked militants have kidnapped about 120 Kurdish civilians from a village in the northern province of Aleppo, near the border with Turkey.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Takfiri militants from a group called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant entered the village of Ihras, seized the people, and then took the hostages to an unknown location. Sources in Syria say several of the hostages are women. Over the past few months, there have been a number of armed clashes between al-Qaeda insurgents and Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.

December 20, 2013, During a ceremony in tribute of one of Hezbollah’s top military commanders, Hassan Lakees, who was assassinated near his home early this month, Hezbollah’s secretary General accused Israel of being behind the assassination.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah will settle its score with Israel. Referring to the crisis in Syria and the role of Hezbollah, Nasrallah said that his movement is fighting to protect the whole Middle East region form the threat of extremist groups. The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon says Israel is now using the Takfiris as a tool to try to weaken Syria but to no avail as many in the Arab world are revising their stance with regard to what is going on in the country. The Hezbollah chief also talked about the current political standoff in Lebanon, saying that the deadlock should be resolved through the formation of a national unity government. While Hezbollah has been trying to counter the activities of Saudi-backed takfiri elements in Lebanon and Syria, the secretary general of Hezbollah has stressed that the battle against Israel remains an open battle and that the Lebanese resistance movement will retaliate Israeli moves at the necessary time and place.

Indian army has ordered the court martial of six army soldiers, including two officers, for their involvement in the killings of three youths in a fake encounter in north Kashmir\'s Kupwara district back in April 2010. The army soldiers claimed the victims were militants but it was later found out that they were just three innocent civilians.
The incident sparked violent protests against the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act that gives unbridled power to army personnel in the region. More than 110 civilians were killed in protests that lasted several months back in 2010. Now, three years after the incident, rights activists are not optimistic about the outcome of the court martial proceedings. They say the court martial is just a cover-up because the accused enjoy the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. That act gives legal immunity to Indian forces in Kashmir and forbids their prosecution without the sanction from the Indian government. According to rights activists, hundreds of security personnel face charges of murder, rape, and arrest in Kashmir, but prosecution against them has been hindered due to the special powers. The army has ordered court martial proceedings against the accused army soldiers in Machil fake encounter. But it remains to be seen whether the real perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice in the near future.

The meeting will be held behind closed doors. This, as a Russian official says Syria\\\'s chemical weapons will be taken out of the country through its maritime borders. The Arab country agreed to the destruction of its chemical arsenal after the August 21 deadly gas attack near Damascus. In response, the Israeli artillery fired a barrage of shells into the Lebanese border region of Arqub. In both attacks, uninhabited areas were targeted, causing no injuries or damage. The area has remained mostly quiet since a month-long war in 2006 between Israel and the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. But there\\\'s been sporadic rocket firing from Lebanon-- carried out by al-Qaeda-affiliated groups including the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

There\'s been a deadly bomb attack near the Iraqi city of Baquba.
The car bomb explosion in a suburb of the city killed at least 19 people. Over two dozen others were also wounded. Iraqi officials blame such incidents on al-Qaeda elements operating in the country, and also on the remnants of the former Ba\'athist regime. The latest attack comes as Iraqi security forces are conducting mop-up operations in the western province of Anbar. Thousands of people were killed in nationwide terror attacks last year alone.

Doctors for former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon, who\\\'s been in a coma for nearly eight years now, say his vital body organs have failed, and he\\\'s close to death.
The former premier has been on life support at a medical center near Tel Aviv. He suffered a massive stroke in January 2006, and has been in a coma ever since. He was Israel\\\'s prime minister from 2001 until 2006. Sharon was also the minister of military affairs during the massacre at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in 19-82. Back then, the Israeli army invaded Lebanon and allowed the Lebanese militiamen, known as Phalangists, to go on a killing spree in the camps. Reports say between 8-hundred and 35-hundred civilians, mostly Palestinians, were killed in the massacre.

Hundreds of people marched at the entrance of al-Yarmuk refugee camp in Damascus in an attempt to reach out to their sick relatives. They were hoping for a successful outcome of an initiative launched by several Syria-based Palestinian factions to evacuate over three hundred sick people trapped inside the camp. But anxious relatives failed to meet their loved ones.
Red Crescent teams were ordered to retreat as armed groups opened gunfire at the humanitarian groups who tried to help the sick out, causing the initiative to fail. This is not the first such initiative to fail. Previously, several armed extremist groups such as the al-Qaeda linked al-Nusra Front foiled peace initiatives and remained occupying the camp. In 2012, tens of civilians were killed and thousands of others displaced after foreign-backed militants targeted the same refugee camp. According to the doctors in charge of following up the initiative, dozens of sick people remain trapped inside al-Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus. With the lack of basic needs inside, many families here see no end to the humanitarian crisis in the near future.

The raging conflict in Syria is affecting efforts to neutralize its chemical arsenal.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons says security challenges have slowed the transport of the Arab country\'s chemical weapons abroad for destruction. The OPCW says it\'s taking additional measures to complete its mission, and that Syria\'s chemical arms will be destroyed as planned by the end of June. Damascus agreed to hand over its chemical weapons to the body as part of a plan proposed by Russia to prevent a US attack on the country. Washington threatened airstrikes on Syria, following the August 21 chemical attack near the Syrian capital. The gas attack killed hundreds of people there. Both Damascus and Moscow say it was carried out by insurgents to provoke a Western invasion of Syria.
