Dua al Hazeen, supplication of the grieved - a supplication recited after night prayers (salaat ul Layl).

This is a ‘meccan’ surah. This surah contrasts two types of people, the charitable and the miserly, and describes each of their characteristics. The holy Prophet (s) has said that the reward of reciting this surah is so much that the one who recites it will be pleased when he sees it in his Book of Deeds. His inspiration of good deeds (Tawfiq) will also increase. If recited 15 times before sleeping, one will dream about what pleases him most. Reciting it in the I’sha prayers, carries the reward of completing a quarter of the holy Qur’an and is guaranteed that the prayers are accepted.

This is a ‘meccan’ surah. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet (saw) that the reward for reciting this surah is compared to the things upon which the sun and the moon shine. Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (as) has said that the person who recites surah as-Shams, al-Layl, ad-Dhuha and al-Inshirah will, on the “Day of Judgement”, find all creatures of the earth testifying on his behalf and ALLAH (swt) will accept their testimony and give him/her a place in Jannah. Recitation of this surah also leads to increase in sustenance, courage and popularity amongst the people.

Only for a Dog It was just after midnight and the man was alone in the masjid.He had just begun his Salatul Layl (Namaz e Shab) when he heard a noise behind him.Immediately, he started praying slowly. He recited lengthy duas in a beautiful voice.After he finished he turned around to see a dog who had come in to take shelter from the rain outside. The man realised that he had prayed only for a dog and not for Allah.
