Turkish police have used water cannons and smoke grenades against Kurdish protesters angry at Ankara\'s plans to erect a wall near the border with Syria.
The clashes took place in the south-eastern Kurdish town of Jizre. Kurdish protesters say the wall divides them from family members on the Syrian side of the border. Turkey began the construction of the wall last month in Nusaybin, a border district north of the Syrian town of Qamishli. Ankara says it\'s concerned with the spillover of violence from northern Syria. However, the Turkish government is a staunch supporter of insurgents in Syria providing them with arms, training and shelter.

Reports from Syria say Kurdish fighters have managed to recapture a key town in the country\'s north-east.
Press TV sources say the Kurdish People\'s Protection Units, known as YPG, have regained control of Tall Hamis town near the Turkish border. The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. The victory is not the first for the YPG, as the group has previously taken control over several areas in the region.

Reports coming out of Syria say al-Qaeda-linked militants have kidnapped about 120 Kurdish civilians from a village in the northern province of Aleppo, near the border with Turkey.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Takfiri militants from a group called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant entered the village of Ihras, seized the people, and then took the hostages to an unknown location. Sources in Syria say several of the hostages are women. Over the past few months, there have been a number of armed clashes between al-Qaeda insurgents and Kurdish fighters in northern Syria.

Officials in Iraq\'s Kurdistan Region say the central government in Baghdad is blocking wages for hundreds of thousands of Kurdish workers. Iraq\'s Kurdish Deputy Prime Minister Roj Nuri Shawais has called on Kurdish members of the Baghdad cabinet to resign if the problem continues.
Kurdistan\'s government says it\'s cutting costs and even salaries of senior officials to help pay for monthly wages of more than $700m. MPs in Baghdad say the money has been withheld because Kurdistan is starting independent oil exports via Turkey.

Preparations are already underway for Iraq\'s general elections in April 2014. Politicians in the northern Kurdistan Region are divided over running together as a united Kurdish bloc or as individual parties. Some officials argue that running as one bloc would ensure that Kurdish votes from across Iraq are not wasted.
