The United Nations is warning that it\\\'ll investigate reports of crimes against humanity in South Sudan.
The warning comes after eyewitnesses unveiled a wave of brutal ethnic killings. UN chief Ban Ki-moon says all those responsible for the killings will face the consequences. He has asked the Security Council to nearly double the size of the UN mission in South Sudan. Since nearly a week ago, the country has been hit by deadly fighting between government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president, Riek Machar. According to official estimates, 500 people have lost their lives in the week long conflict. But independent sources believe the real figure to be higher.

The American Studies Association says it will go ahead with its decision to boycott Israel.
The incoming president of the association says she will fully support the boycott against Israeli academics over Tel Aviv\\\'s conflict with Palestinians. The move was launched last month by the five-thousand-member association. The American Studies Association says Israeli institutions that aid and support the illegal occupation are to be boycotted over the discriminatory treatment of Palestinians. Meanwhile, two New York politicians have introduced a legislation to pull state funding from any public college that boycotts Israel.

A report by The Jerusalem Post suggests that the Saudi Ambassador to the US Adel al-Jubeir plays an important role in boosting relations between Tel Aviv and Riyadh. He frequently holds secrets meetings with the leaders of Jewish organizations in Washington. Based on the leaked information from their latest meeting, al-Jubeir has harshly criticized the US government\'s policies in the Middle East. He has even mentioned that Washington has betrayed Riyadh in some cases. The Saudi ambassador\'s remarks come as political norms usually prevent a diplomat from openly criticizing the host country. The report suggests that the Saudi diplomat made those comments despite being aware that the conversation was probably being monitored by the NSA. As the gap between Riyadh and Washington becomes deeper, the Arab country has apparently turned to Israel for support.

Iran has rejected a US proposal for it to play a role on the sidelines of the Geneva conference on Syria.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said Tehran will only accept proposals that respect its dignity. US Secretary of State John Kerry said earlier this week that Iran could help on the sidelines of the Geneva conference. His comments were a policy shift from the earlier stance of Washington, which is the only party opposed to Tehran\\\'s participation. Iran has expressed readiness to attend the event, but without preconditions.

Moshe Yaalon later issued a statement in which he apologized to Kerry, saying that he had no intention to cause any offense to the United States\\\' top diplomat. The incident, which caused an uproar in Washington, serves as another reminder of the tension underlying U-S-Israel relations. This also has a historical angle. An Al-Qaeda-linked group has issued a threat to Hezbollah, saying it would continue its attacks against the Lebanese resistance movement.
In a statement posted on the Internet, the group, known as the Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon, says -- Hezbollah and its bases are legitimate targets. The statement comes just three days after the group claimed responsibility for a car bombing in Beirut\'s southern suburbs that killed four people. That was the sixth in a string of terrorist attacks in Lebanon in recent months. Another al-Qaeda-linked outfit, the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, carried out a twin bombing in front of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in November. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 people -- including an Iranian diplomat.

The United States has criticized the Syrian government for what it calls the slow pace in removing and destroying its chemical agents.
Meanwhile, the U-S representative to the international chemical weapons watchdog has accused Damascus of delaying efforts to remove chemical agents from Syria. Robert Mikulak has told the Organization of Prohibition of Chemical Weapons\' executive council that one month after the deadline, only 4 percent of the most toxic chemicals has been removed. The Syrian government had no immediate comment but Damascus has insisted on the need to receive additional security equipment for shipping containers and high-tech electronics, to secure the convoys.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says it will not allow the presence of an international force in a future Palestinian state.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri has said in a statement that the presence of an international force under a peace deal with Israel would be no different from the Israeli occupation. He urged the United States to revise its position since Hamas won\'t allow anyone to undermine its rights. Abu Zuhri also called for a united front of factions to reject the so-called peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and their outcome. He further said that the Kerry plan was put together by Americans and the Zionist entity to eradicate the Palestinian cause. Earlier, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh slammed the talks, saying the resistance movement would not be bound by any deal with Israel.

Perhaps it would be hard for any country with easy access to abundant oil and gas resources, to adapt itself with a parsimonious pattern of energy consumption. This is what is happening in Iran. In fact the country sees no alternative but to move towards clean renewable energy, at a time when most of its large cities are struggling with environmental pollution.
This is the sixth year that companies from Iran and a number of foreign countries gather in the renewable energy exhibition to display their latest achievements based on clean and efficient energy. The main objective of the event is to promote the use of energy from non fossil fuel resources such as solar panels, wind turbines and geothermal heat. Some experts believe that a considerable shift from oil and gas to clean alternative substitutes is far from reach in a short time period.
