Scores of people have been injured as riot police in Bangladesh used tear gas and rubber bullets against opposition supporters on the third and final day of a general strike. Three Palestinians have been injured in fresh Israeli air raids on the besieged Gaza Strip. Israel claims the latest attacks, which targeted Gaza City, are in response to a rocket attack from Gaza. Israel has recently intensified its military operations on the enclave. Earlier this week, Israeli warplanes bombarded the territory, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding several others. Another Palestinian was wounded by Israeli troops in southern Gaza last week.

Two simultaneous bomb blasts in Baghdad left five people dead and fifteen others injured. Another explosion in the city\'s Kenani Market left scores of casualties. The attacks are the latest in a chain of deadly violent incidents hitting Iraq over the last months. The Iraqi government blames al-Qaeda-linked groups for the deadly unrest. Official figures show more than a thousand people lost their lives in violent attacks across Iraq last month alone.

Deadly clashes in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. At least five anti-government protesters are killed and scores of others-- including police officers-- are injured. Casualties occurred when Israeli forces launched an attack on the blockaded Palestinian territory late on Thursday. Officials say the soldiers belonged to the Second Field Army that\'s fighting militants in the Sinai Peninsula. No person or group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack yet. Tensions in Sinai have been on the rise following the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi by the army in early July. Militants have mainly targeted policemen, soldiers and politicians. One of the deadliest attacks happened back in August when militants pulled 25 police recruits off a bus and shot them dead on the main road linking Rafah to el-Arish.

At least eight people are killed as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake rattles southern Iran. 45 others were also injured as the quake struck near the city of Borazjan in Bushehr province. Iran\'s Red Crescent says a number of houses which were not built earthquake-proof have suffered some damage. Officials say relief teams have been sent to the affected areas. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the victims. Iran sits on major faultlines and has suffered several big earthquakes in recent years. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed 40 people in southeastern Iran in April.

Clashes in Cairo erupted after police fired tear gas to disperse people joining the funeral of a university student killed in a protest on Thursday. Similar violence has been reported in Alexandria, Giza and the Nile Delta. The mass rallies come despite warnings from authorities of a firm response to any unauthorized protests. Under the new law, protest organizers are obliged to get permission for protests and hand in the names and addresses of all the people planning to join. The new law is under scrutiny both domestically and internationally.
