December 20, 2013, During a ceremony in tribute of one of Hezbollah’s top military commanders, Hassan Lakees, who was assassinated near his home early this month, Hezbollah’s secretary General accused Israel of being behind the assassination.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah will settle its score with Israel. Referring to the crisis in Syria and the role of Hezbollah, Nasrallah said that his movement is fighting to protect the whole Middle East region form the threat of extremist groups. The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon says Israel is now using the Takfiris as a tool to try to weaken Syria but to no avail as many in the Arab world are revising their stance with regard to what is going on in the country. The Hezbollah chief also talked about the current political standoff in Lebanon, saying that the deadlock should be resolved through the formation of a national unity government. While Hezbollah has been trying to counter the activities of Saudi-backed takfiri elements in Lebanon and Syria, the secretary general of Hezbollah has stressed that the battle against Israel remains an open battle and that the Lebanese resistance movement will retaliate Israeli moves at the necessary time and place.

Palestinian political prisoner and long term hunger striker Samer al Issawi was greeted by hundreds of supporters, friends and family as he was released from an Israeli jail following the longest hunger strike in Palestinian history.
Samer al Azawi was originally captured by the Israeli army and handed a 26 year sentence in 2002. He was released as part of the Gilad Shalit deal alongside over a thousand other prisoners in exchange for 1 Israeli prisoner. However, Asawi was arrested again in July 2012 and held in administrative detention without charge or trial. Following his detention, Asawi went on a 260 day hunger strike in protest against the Israeli\\\'s threatening to renew his original prison sentence for breaking the terms of his parole. Israeli forces raided his family\\\'s home twice just before his release. On Sunday, Israeli authorities gave notices to Issawi\\\'s brother and father, demanding they meet requirements by the Israeli intelligence. Israeli intelligence agents, accompanied by soldiers, told the family they were not allowed to organize any celebrations for Issawi\\\'s release. Samer al Azawi will now join his family in Jerusalem al Quds following a 9 months hunger strike which prompted the Israeli authorities to release him. He stressed the importance of applying international pressure on Israel to release over 4800 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli jails.

Fresh political violence in Bangladesh. Supporters and opponents of the government have clashed in the capital Dhaka.
No casualties have been reported yet. The violence erupted on Sunday after police barred opposition leader Khaleda Zia from leaving her home to lead an anti-government rally. She was supposed to address the rally aimed at pressuring the government to scrap the January 5 elections and hand over power to a caretaker government to oversee the vote. At least one opposition activist was killed in clashes with security forces yesterday. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pledged to go ahead with the elections despite the opposition boycott, to avoid a constitutional crisis.

The israeli authorities have seized all shelter and humanitarian aid provided to Palestinian residents who had their homes demolished by the Israeli army in the Jordan Valley.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories (OHCHR) had provided the humanitarian assistance when the Israeli authorities bulldozed an entire Palestinian village in the Jiftlik area of the Jordan Valley. The Israeli army have now declared the area a closed military zone and do not allow human rights groups and media entering the area. Last week the Israeli army bulldozed 13 homes and animal outhouses belonging to 3 bedouin families, leading to the displacement of 26 people and 15 children. At the time the army claimd that they were living in a military training zone. Israeli has clarified its position over the Jordan Valley stating that they aim to annex it onto their land. Tel Aviv has refused a deal brokered by the US, to remove all military presence from the Jordan Valley. This is the second time that the Israeli army demolish Palestinian homes in the village of Jiftlik -- leaving them in a cold winter without home or shelter. Rights groups say childrens and elderly are the ones who have suffered the most as a result and if this trend continues it could lead to a serious humanitarian crisis in the village.

State organizations in Saudi Arabia have desecrated the Holy Qur\'an by discarding over fifty copies in Taif city\'s street sewerage canals.
According to a Saudi official in the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, the incident was reported by a local student, who saw the holy books on his way home in Al-Salama district of Taif.
The service company that specializes in opening drainage inlets was then called, and dozens of copies of the Quran were retrieved.
A photo that shows desecrated books has now gone viral on the internet and social media websites.
This is not the first time the Holy Quran has been desecrated in Saudi Arabia. Earlier this year, the move by prison officials in Al-Haer province to insult the Holy Book led to protests in different parts of the Kingdom.
The desecration of the holy Quran in a country, which is the birthplace of Islam, has raised eyebrows in the Muslim world.
This week\'s Islam & Life asks: How do certain stories affect the world\'s perception of Saudi Arabia?

A US federal appeals court has rejected the plea by a Saudi national who\'s serving life in prison for trying to make a bomb.
23-year-old Khalid Ali Aldawsari, a former Texas college student, was convicted nearly two years ago of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Prosecutors said he had collected bomb-making materials in his Lubbock apartment and researched possible targets -- including former President George W. Bush\'s Dallas home. In the appeal to the New Orleans-based court, Aldawsari\'s lawyers contended that the trial judge improperly allowed evidence and gave invalid jury instructions.

An Afghan refugee who was granted asylum in the UK has accepted substantial libel compensation at the high court in London after the daily express newspaper falsely accused him of being a member of the Taliban.
Abdol Shazad who is 20 was recognized as a refugee by the Home Office last February after a four-year battle in which it was found that he was at fear of being persecuted by the Taliban. But a month later The express published a story saying that he was a member of the Taliban and posted an online version of the story under which hateful and abusive comments were posted causing great distress to Mr Shazad Journalists say this type of behavior is indicative of the lack of ethics of large segments of the right wing media. The Legal Counsel for the Express, Chloe Strong Said: \"The allegation in the articles was false and the defendant wishes to offer its sincerest apologies to the claimant for the damage, distress and embarrassment which the publication of the articles has caused him.\" The Daily Express has apologized and agreed to pay him substantial damages. The exact figure is undisclosed. But this type of behavior from elements of the right wing press is unlikely to stop as a result For Mr Shazid at least, there has been some kind of accountability for this unethical journalism.

A wonderfully tasty combination of rice, noodles, veggies and chicken, which is a little sweet and a little spicey.
Ing:
2 cups cooked rice (precooked with soy sauce)
1 to 2 cups boiled rice noodles
1 to 2 cups chicken (cut according to your preference)
For the Veggies
2 tbsp of oil for frying the veggies
1/4 cup fresh ginger julienned
1/2 cup spring onions chopped
1 cup red bell pepper
1 cup yellow bell pepper
1 cup green bell pepper
1 cup cabbage (sliced thinly)
1 cup carrots (shredded)
2 cups bean sprouts
1 tbsp ginger and garlic
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp pepper flakes (optional)
1/4 tsp of cayenne (optional)
salt to taste
2 to 3 whole dried red pepper
1 tsp sesame oil
4 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tsp sambal or hot sauce
8 to 10 pieces of garlic (cut in thin slices)
1/4 cup of oil
2 to 3 red peppers
1 tbsp chong onions
Method:
Prepare your rice and keep it aside, next prepare your pasta and keep it aside, then clean your chicken, cut it and set it aside. Prepare all the veggies and the ginger and the garlic, and keep all this aside. In a wok add the oil and let it get nice and hot then add the chicken fry for about 30 seconds and add the soy sauce, salt, red crushed pepper, ginger and garlic, black pepper and stir all this really well and let it cook for about 5 min next add the sambal and the ketchup, so you have a little gravy, make sure and do a taste test so it\'s tasty. Keep this aside in a different place and we will reuse the wok. In the same wok add the oil, once hot, add ginger, spring onions, all the 3 bell peppers, cabbage, and carrots as well as the black pepper, salt, and pinch of cayenne. Stir fry on high for about a minute and add the bean sprouts and sesame oil stir fry for another 30 seconds then add the rice noodles and mix all the ingredients together as well as another 2 tbsp of soy sauce. Keep aside if you want to layer the rice if not you can add the rice inside and mix it all up...
Make sure and fry the fresh garlic in a 1/4 cup of oil, 1 tbsp chopped spring onions is optional, as well as the dried peppers, this oil can be put on the top of the dish or keep aside and leave on the side. For the layers, in a big plate or bowl add the rice, then add the veggie and pasta layer on top of the rice, now add the layer of the chicken and the gravy and this will be your third layer. Lastly drizzle some of the garlic oil on top and if you want to serve the extra on the side then reserve some otherwise add it all to the top of dish. This dish can also be garnished with more spring onions. To serve you can also make a dressing that consists of half and half so if you are mixing 4 tbsp ketchup add 4 tbsp of mayonnaise, as well as a hot sauce or sambal or even tabasco. Mix all this well and either serve it on the side or you can drizzle it on top of the dish!
Enjoy!
