President Hamid Karzai for the first time has made public that the US wants to have permanent military presence in Afghanistan. He has also unveiled the number of bases the US is mulling over. Karzai wants to let the US have these bases but with some conditions. But on the streets, local Afghans are angry at the prospect of permanent US bases in their country. The say such bases will bring about more problems to Afghans, and that they no more trust foreign forces. It has now been 12 years of war since the US invaded Afghanistan, ostensibly to fight the Taliban and bring peace.

In May 2012, Obama and Karzai signed a security pact that authorized the presence of US troops for a period of 10 years after 2014, which was the original date agreed earlier for the departure of all foreign combat troops from Afghanistan.
Washington is also after signing a security deal with Kabul that will give foreign forces in Afghanistan immunity from prosecution among other terms. Meanwhile, on May 9 this year, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Washington had demanded to keep several military bases across Afghanistan.
The pretext of the US and its allies for their presence in Afghanistan is to establish security in the region. But now after more than a decade of US invasion, Afghans still say the foreign presence has led to more insecurity in the region.

More violence in Afghanistan. A roadside bomb blast has claimed the lives of several people in Afghanistan\'s western province of Farah. Also on Monday, nearly two dozen civilians including women and children died in separate explosions in eastern provinces of Laghman and Paktia.
The afghan president Hamid Karzai has strongly condemned the incidents. In a statement Karzai said such attacks were carried out by Quote \"the enemies of the people of Afghanistan\".
Taliban militants usually take the blame for the attacks in the war-torn country. Also foreign troops as well as their military operations and airstrikes are held responsible for the rising civilian casualties in the country.
According to a UN report released in February, more than 2,750 people were killed and over 4,800 injured in conflict-related violence in Afghanistan in 2012 alone.

Press TV News Director Hamid Reza Emadi says a wave of attacks launched by international satellite companies against Iranian channels violates human rights and freedom of speech.
The giant satellite company Intelsat recently stopped the broadcast of Iranian channels under the pretext of the US sanctions against head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Ezzatollah Zarghami.
The campaign against Iranian channels is considered a violation of satellite rules, under which all nations have the right to use satellites, with the audience entitled to receive information from any source they desire.

Mr. Galloway\'s 2 lectures during his short stay in Australia has shed light on the current tensions in the middle east and raised many questions on the actions of western governments towards this region. Finally raising hope that stability would return to the region.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has confirmed the covert efforts of some foreign countries to change the political system of Afghanistan. Karzai has not named any specific country, but he did mention the kind of system those countries are looking for. His comments drew mixed reactions here. People in the north support a federal government. Their neighborhoods are rich with oil deposits---like these ones. You cannot find the likes of these oil deposits in the south. The northerners want to have a full grip on them. And it is also peace that they believe can come to their villages if a federal style of government is put in place. It is not the general view though. There are many who are strongly opposed to such a change in Afghanistan\'s political system. Fatana Ishaq Gailani is one of them. She is a member of a famous political family here. Fatana blames the West for trying to impose a federal government on Afghans.
To her, it is a plausible threat.

The chairman of the US Senate Armed Services Committee, Carl Levin has met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai to hammer out a security deal between the two countries.
Levin told the Afghan leader that the US would not provide any further military support until a deal is signed. The two sides also discussed security agreement between Kabul and Washington. The issue over the agreement is related to America\'s drone attacks across Afghanistan, with many innocent civilians being wrongly targeted by US air-force drones. Karzai and US Secretary of State John Kerry earlier this month said that the two sides have agreed on the terms of bilateral security agreement.

Iran and the permanent members of the U-N Security Council plus Germany start a two-day expert-level meeting in Vienna.
Tehran has sent experts from nuclear, oil, banking and other industrial sectors. Iran\'s Foreign Ministry\'s director for political affairs, Hamid Ba\'eedinejad, is leading the team. This, as an American delegation, including experts from the country\'s State and Treasury Departments, is also present. The last meeting of the two sides was held in Geneva on October 15 and 16. Following the talks described by both sides as constructive, Tehran and the six powers decided to send their experts to Vienna at the end of October to discuss details of Iran\'s new proposal to resolve outstanding issues over its nuclear energy program. The latest talks come as Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency wrapped up two days of negotiations on Tuesday, which were also described as very productive.

Afghan tribal elders have convened in the capital Kabul to debate the fate of the US forces in the war-torn country beyond 2014.
The participants in the gathering known as Loya Jirga are discussing the draft of a long-awaited bilateral security deal between Kabul and Washington. The draft agreed on Wednesday appears to meet US demands on some thorny issues. Among them are US troops\' unilateral operations, their authority to enter Afghan homes and immunity from prosecution. In his opening speech at the meeting, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said 15000 foreign forces would remain in Afghanistan if the deal is inked. The presence of US-led forces in Afghanistan has generated deep anti-US sentiments among Afghans who accuse Washington of violating their country\'s sovereignty and killing civilians.

Heated talks continue between Iran and the permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany over Tehran\\\'s nuclear program.
Iran\\\'s Foreign Minister Mohammad Havad Zarif, who\\\'s heading the Iranian delegation, has met with EU\\\'s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on the second day of a new round of negotiations in Geneva. Ashton represents the so-called P5+1 group. Her spokesman Michael Mann says the latest talks were \\\"very substantial and detailed\\\". Zarif has echoed the same remarks, saying discussions have already delved into content and details. However, he added that differences remain between the two sides. Both sides are working to finalize a draft agreement to resolve the standoff over Tehran\\\'s nuclear program. This, as an Iranian deputy foreign minister says any agreement on the horizon is bound to respect Iran\\\'s right to enrichment.

Afghanistan rejects the U-S demand that Kabul sign a security deal between the two countries as soon as possible.
A spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai says the agreement must wait until after next year\'s presidential election, even if it\'s approved by the Loya Jirga and the parliament. This, after the White House said Karzai\'s failure to sign the Bilateral Security Agreement, or B-S-A, by the end of this year would prevent Washington and its allies from planning for post-20-14 presence in Afghanistan. On Thursday, Karzai said he was willing to delay the signing of the B-S-A until after next year\'s presidential election. However, ordinary Afghans are angry over raids by American and other foreign troops. And they\'ve held protests against the security deal with the U-S.

Furious Afghan president says US drones have struck a home in Helmand, killing a small child and wounding two women.
President Hamid Karzai has condemned the drone strike as yet another example of US disregard for civilian life. The strike comes in the midst of a standoff between the Afghan government and the US over a security deal. Washington is pushing for a military presence in Afghanistan after 2014 along with legal immunity for American troops. The US killing of civilians is a controversial issue in Afghanistan. The Afghan government wants the Americans to stop using airstrikes in populated areas, but those demands have so far fallen on deaf ears.
