Clashes between police and gunmen at an anti-government protest camp in central Iraq have left over a dozen people dead. The violence came after security forces were deployed to dismantle the camp in the city of Ramadi in Anbar province. Police sources say the clashes broke out when gunmen opened fire on security forces. At least ten gunmen and three policemen were killed. The defense ministry says the decision to remove the protest camp came after a deal reached between the ministry, tribal leaders and local government. Now, there are also reports of heavy gunfire in the city of Falouja in the same province. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki had repeatedly vowed to remove the one-year-old camp accusing protesters of stirring strife and sheltering al-Qaeda-linked militants.

An Iranian diplomat, shot by gunmen in the Yemeni capital Sana\'a, has died of his wounds. Members of a terrorist group first tried to kidnap Iran\'s commercial attaché but when they faced resistance, they opened fire on him. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian says the diplomat died in hospital. The foreign ministry has strongly condemned the terrorist attack. According to Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Yemeni authorities are investigating the incident.

Yemeni Houthis have withdrawn from the crucial reconciliation talks after gunmen shot dead the representative of the Shia group. Security officials say Ahmed Sharafeddin was gunned down on his way to a hotel where the talks are being held in the capital Sana\'a. The university professor of law was a leading figure in the group. Sharafeddin is the second Houthi representative killed ahead of the talks. His assassination comes as the fighters are engaged in heavy clashes with a tribe linked to Salafists in Amran province. A leading religious figure has been assassinated by gunmen in the Syrian capital Damascus. Imam of Ruqayya mosque, Sheikh Abbas al-Laham, was assassinated on Sunday. Several other religious figures have been killed in the country in recent months. An Egyptian officer in charge of the Muslim Brotherhood file has been gunned down outside his home in a Cairo suburb. The United Nations estimates that at least eight-thousand people have been killed in 2013.

Turkey's smear campaign against the Syrian government is much worse than the propaganda spread by Arab media to tarnish the image of Damascus with regards to its recent unrest. While Syrian officials and residents of crisis-hit Syrian regions have repeatedly said that armed groups are responsible for the deadly clashes in the country, Turkey has tried to portray Iran and the Lebanese Resistance Movement, Hezbollah, as being behind the unrest in Syria and that they help Damascus quell protests. The Turkish NTV news channel recently claimed that the Syrian soldiers who refused to open fire on protesters were shot dead by their commanders. The broadcaster reported that a Syrian soldier taking refuge in the country says that he and his comrades were trying to avoid hurting protesters by firing warning shots, but those who refused to open fire on protesters were shot dead. "I've seen Iranians and Hezbollah operators giving instructions to shoot, and those who refused were immediately shot dead," the alleged fugitive Syrian soldier told NTV, adding that the soldiers were mostly shot from behind or in the neck. The Turkish broadcaster has also claimed that Syrian forces have opened fire on unarmed civilians in al-Rastan. "We opened fire on everyone, the young, the old... Women were raped in front of their husbands and children," the army defector told NTV. Political analysts in Middle East affairs have accused Ankara of playing a double game -- claiming to support the Damascus government in order to have greater influence in the Middle East, while at the same time supporting and providing a safe haven for armed gangs seeking to incite revolt in Syria. Iranian analyst Hadi Mohammadi says that the United States has now formed operational headquarters in southern Turkey close to the border with Syria to direct the riots in the Arab country after its attempts to cause unrest in southern Syria were unsuccessful. Mohammadi said that the United States has assigned Turkey to carry out its anti-Syria plan. It has hence provided aid to the Turkish Army to assist Syrian dissidents in crossing into Turkey and settle in tent villages set up in Turkey's Hatay Province. Meanwhile, a mass grave with bodies of at least 10 Syrian security forces was discovered near the northwestern town of Jisr al-Shughour on Monday. Syria's state TV says the victims were killed by armed gangs and the bodies bore marks of torture. Heavy clashes were reported as troops and tanks moved into the city on Sunday and gunmen targeted civilian areas including a hospital. The government says it entered the town to restore order after some 120 security forces were killed there about a week ago. People in Jisr al-Shughour gathered to thank government troops for protecting them against the gunmen.

Pakistani security forces reached the area and started rescue operation following the incident. The death toll is expected to rise further as most of the injured are said to be in critical conditions. No group or person has claimed responsibility for the attack. Pro-Taliban groups have launched a violent campaign against Shia Muslims, and appear to have widened their terror campaign in major Pakistani cities. Several Shia religious gatherings have been targeted in different parts of the country over the past few months. Shia sources say they make up one-third of Pakistan's population of nearly 170 million. Since the 1980s, thousands of people have been killed in sectarian-related incidents in Pakistan.

According to local sources, the incident took place in Safari Park area of Karachi on Friday. Pakistani officials told Press TV that the bomb detonated after unknown gunmen opened fire on the demonstrators on the Quds Day. The blast came one day after gunmen dragged 20 Shia Muslim travelers off a bus and killed them at point blank range in northwestern district of Mansehra. Several others were injured during the attack on Thursday. The victims were going from Rawalpindi to Gilgit -- a heavily-Shia-populated area. In 1979, Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, designated the last Friday of the lunar month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, during which Muslims across the world hold rallies to show their solidarity with Palestinians.

At least nine people have been killed and dozens wounded in different incidents across Iraq. The deadliest incident that involved six fatalities took place in the northern city of Kirkuk when gunmen attacked a shopping mall. Officials say the shootout with the gunmen lasted for two hours. At least 47 people are believed to have been injured in the gun battle. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. But such incidents are usually blamed on militants affiliated to al-Qaeda, who have strongholds around Kirkuk. At least three other people are said to have been killed in separate incidents in Baghdad, Fallujah and Tikrit. Violence in Iraq has surged over the past few months. The fatalities from the start of the year so far have now exceeded 62-hundred.

The protesters criticized the government for failing to protect the nation from persistent attacks and targeted assassinations. A demonstration was also held in the western city of Saada. Yemen has been hit by a wave of shootings and assassination attempts on political and security officials over the past year. Over 90 army officers and security officials have been assassinated by unidentified gunmen in the past seven months. Earlier this month, an attack on a hospital inside the country\'s defense ministry left scores of people dead and wounded. In addition, many foreign journalists and diplomats have been kidnapped and held for ransom by gunmen.

On Saturday, security forces raided Alwani\\\'s home. Deadly clashes broke out after his guards opened fire on the police. Seven people -- including the MP\\\'s brother, five guards and a security force member - were killed before Alwani was taken into custody.
