The United States Department of Defense plans to send four more F-16 fighter jets to Egypt in the coming weeks, according to American officials. \"There is no current change in the plan to deliver F-16s to the Egyptian military,\" an unnamed U.S. official told Reuters on Wednesday. Another American official said the deliveries were likely next month. Eight more F-16 fighter jets were slated to be delivered in December. Washington\'s plan comes despite the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup last week. The Obama administration said it is still reviewing whether or not to label the ouster of Morsi by the military a coup. On Monday, White House spokesman Jay Carney said that Washington will not stop providing military aid to Egypt despite the Morsi ouster. \"We think it would not be in the best interests of the United States\" to change its aid program at this time, Carney said. According to U.S. law, financial assistance to any country whose elected head of state is deposed in a military coup is prohibited. Republican Senator John McCain also said U.S. aid to Egypt should be cut off in accordance with U.S. law. \"It is difficult for me to conclude that what happened was anything other than a coup in which the military played a decisive role,\" McCain said.

[27 June 2012] Turkey after NATO intervention in Syria - English Turkey has deployed a large number of tanks and other armored vehicles to the Syrian border amid rising tensions with Damascus over the downing of a Turkish fighter jet by the Syrian army. The move comes hours after Turkish Prime Minster Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to retaliate against Damascus over the downing of its fighter jet. Erdogan said that Turkey changes the rules of engagement with Syria and branded its former ally as "a clear and imminent threat". Syrian military says that it had engaged the jet in the Syrian airspace "according to the laws that govern such situations." NATO has condemned Syria's downing of the Turkish jet as 'unacceptable' and promised support for Ankara. Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi on Monday warned NATO against forging any anti-Syria conspiracy on the downing of the Turkish fighter jet. This week Turkey threatened Syria with an appropriate retaliation after the Syrian forces shot down a Turkish fighter jet. Syria says it has downed the plane after violation of its airspace, Turkey claims otherwise.

The Somali fighter group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for twin bombings that rocked the central Somali town of Beledweyne on Tuesday. At least 20 people were killed and many more injured in those attacks. The blasts targeted the central police station that serves as a base for the Somali police force. Those forces receive training from Djiboutian troops who are part of the African Union Mission to Somalia.

Iran unveils home-built combat drone, Iran unveils its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle UAV in a ceremony marking Defense Industry Day in the country. The unveiling of the home-made drone, named Karrar took place in the presence of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and a number of defense officials. The Karrar UAV is capable of carrying a military payload of rockets to carry out bombing missions against ground targets. It is also capable of flying long distances at a very high speed. Iran's defense industries have demonstrated spectacular progress in the recent year, launching numerous domestically-built armaments, including aerial and sea-borne military vehicles such as submarines, combat frigates, and various types of missiles. Iran inaugurated the production line of two domistically-built UAVs with bombing and reconnaissance capabilities. The two hi-tech drones named 'Ra'd' (Thunder) and 'Nazir' (Harbinger) are capable of performing long-range reconnaissance, patrolling, assault and bombing missions with high precision. Ra'd, a UAV especially designed for assault and bombing missions, has the capability to destroy specific targets with high precision. Tehran established an arms development program during the 1980-88 war that Iraq waged against Iran to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the US and its Western allies. Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes. Iran successfully tested a home-made radar-evading UAV with bombing capabilities in June 2009. In 2008, the Islamic Republic's Defense Industries launched production lines of two home-built fighter jets, namely Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) and Azarakhsh (Lightening).

China has warned the United States to be cautious in its words and actions with regard to territorial disputes involving China and its neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warning comes amid a diplomatic wrangle over Beijing\\\'s newly announced air defense zone in the East China Sea. Before this, Washington had warned Beijing against imposing an air defense zone over both the South China Sea and East China Sea. US State Secretary John Kerry said recently that Washington would help its regional allies in protecting their territorial waters. China and its neighbors lay similar claims to parts of the strategic and resource-rich seas. The development comes days after Chinese fighter jets chased the US and Japanese military aircraft inside China\\\'s newly declared Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. Chinese defense authorities say they have sent more fighter jets to the zone. The Chinese air force described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law.
