Violence raging in Iraq, where officials say the army\\\'s special forces are fighting al-Qaeda-linked militants in the city of Fallujah west of the capital Baghdad. A commander of the Iraqi commandos has described the clashes in Anbar province as heavy. The special forces were called in to restore security to Fallujah, as police were ordered to return to their headquarters. They\\\'re also being helped by local tribesmen. The al-Qaeda-linked militants are said to have half of Fallujah under their control. The western province of Anbar has been the scene of deadly violence since Monday after Iraqi security forces dismantled an anti-government protest camp in Ramadi. The government says the site had become a breeding ground for al-Qaeda-linked terrorists.

Iraqi security forces are preparing for a major attack on Fallujah to retake the city from al-Qaeda-linked militants. A security official says Special Forces have conducted operations in the city. The army has also been deployed around Fallujah ahead of the operation to provide residents with a safe passage. Earlier, a senior military commander said it will take Iraqi forces up to three days to fully dislodge al-Qaeda-linked militants from the two cities in the western Anbar province. Iraqi security forces have been combating al-Qaeda-linked insurgents in the western Anbar province in recent days. The fighting has killed many from both sides.

Iraq\'s military says it is preparing for a major attack to clear the restive Anbar province of al-Qaeda-affiliated groups. Officials say the militants have killed more than 20 soldiers and a dozen civilians there on Sunday. The extremist militants have been in control of parts of the province in the past days, launching a full-fledged war against the central government. The militants are said to enjoy the support of certain regional countries that benefit from instability in the region.

At least nine people have been killed and dozens wounded in different incidents across Iraq. The deadliest incident that involved six fatalities took place in the northern city of Kirkuk when gunmen attacked a shopping mall. Officials say the shootout with the gunmen lasted for two hours. At least 47 people are believed to have been injured in the gun battle. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. But such incidents are usually blamed on militants affiliated to al-Qaeda, who have strongholds around Kirkuk. At least three other people are said to have been killed in separate incidents in Baghdad, Fallujah and Tikrit. Violence in Iraq has surged over the past few months. The fatalities from the start of the year so far have now exceeded 62-hundred.

In Iraq, 44 members of parliament announce their resignation after security forces dismantle an anti-government protest camp. The lawmakers are demanding the withdrawal of the army. Earlier in the day, clashes broke out between gunmen and police in the central city of Ramadi where the camp was located. Three policemen and ten gunmen were killed. The violence also spread to the nearby city of Fallujah. The lawmakers are also calling for the release of detained MP Ahmed al-Alwani who backs the anti-government protesters. On Saturday, security forces raided Alwani\\\'s home. Deadly clashes broke out after his guards opened fire on the police. Seven people -- including the MP\\\'s brother, five guards and a security force member - were killed before Alwani was taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Iraqi forces together with local tribesmen have reportedly taken control of 90 percent of the city of Ramadi in the same province. Local tribesmen have joined the army over the past week to reverse the surge of the al-Qaeda militancy. In the neighboring Babil province, government forces have arrested an al-Qaeda-linked leader and destroyed a militant camp in an airstrike.

They show American soldiers burning the remains of dead Iraqis and then posing for pictures with their skeletons. According to the website, the photographs were turned over to the US Department of Defense last week. The Pentagon is currently investigating the authenticity of the photos and the identities of the servicemen involved. The US attacked Iraq under the pretext that the regime of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. WMDs were never found in the country and the war killed hundreds of thousands of people.

He has also urged the world to drain the terrorist\'s financial resources. Maliki was referring to a fresh wave of violence which left at least 75 civilians and security forces dead across the country on Wednesday. The attacks are believed to be related to the Iraqi army\'s operation in the western Anbar province. The operation against the al-Qaeda-affiliated group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant-- or ISIL-- has now entered the third consecutive week. Iraqi forces have surrounded the city of Fallujah but are waiting first for local Sunni tribes to expel the militants. Maliki has also pledged to punish anyone who cooperates with the terrorists.
