It's the New Years here in Iran, and as the whole nation celebrates either at home or on the road, here at "Iran Today" we're reviewing the country's scientific achievements throughout the last year.
From nuclear technology to space exploration, Iran's academic community has been working hard to do the nation proud by the start of the New Year.
On the 8th of April 2011, Iran put its Comprehensive Scientific Plan in motion. By definition this plan is "a coordinated and dynamic collection of goals polices and requisite for planning the strategic evolution of science technology and innovation systems, based on Islamic/Iranian values."
Toward the end of 1390, Iran's became the world's 17th country in scientific development. Its scientific growth was 20 percent more than the previous year, the highest in the world.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar in which Muslims fast and abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset. Fasting in this month is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
The month of Ramadan reaches its peak when Muslims observe the grand nights of Glory. These nights are believed to be better than thousand nights as Muslims believe that the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad on these nights. Therefore people stay awake overnight praying and reciting the holy Qoran.
The Philosophy of fasting lies in the evolution of body and soul, because it has been said that: healthy mind is in the healthy body. The month-long fasting month of Ramadan ends on the first day of the lunar month of Shawaal which is celebrated as the Eid-Al-Fitr.

It can be hard sometimes, when speaking, to remember all of the grammatical rules that guide us when we’re writing. When is it right to say “the dog and me” and when should it be “the dog and I”? Does it even matter? Andreea S. Calude dives into the age-old argument between linguistic prescriptivists and descriptivists — who have two very different opinions on the matter.

When we talk about ‘English’, we often think of it as a single language. But what do the dialects spoken in dozens of countries around the world have in common with each other, or with the writings of Chaucer? Claire Bowern traces the language from the present day back to its ancient roots, showing how English has evolved through generations of speakers.
