More bad news for women in Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom\'s Grand Mufti says the country\'s ban on women\'s driving protects the society from evil. Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah also said that allowing women to drive is not the society\'s concern. His comments come as activists in the Persian Gulf monarchy have time and again protested the ban. This, while the Saudi interior minister has assured rights activists that authorities are re-assessing the situation. To this day, Saudi Arabia is the only country where women are not allowed to drive.

As the month of Muharram approaches, Shia Muslims in Indian-controlled-Kashmir are intensifying their campaign to demand the lifting of a ban on religious processions. The ban has been in place for more than two decades now, and forbids the Shias from holding mourning ceremonies on the 9th and 10th days of Muharram.

An Egyptian court has rejected an appeal by Muslim Brotherhood against a ban on the group and the seizure of its funds.

-- Update: Angola govt. denies it banned Islam, destroyed mosques (01:40 GMT) Angola has banned Islam, claiming that it clashes with its customs and state religion. The Angolan government says Islam is not a religion but a sect, and as part of the ban, all mosques will be destroyed in the Christian-majority country. According to the Islamic Community of Angola, there are more than eighty mosques and about half a million Muslims in the country, and the number is growing. Angola\'s culture ministry says the houses of worship of other faiths which have not been legalized will also be demolished. Angola is the first country in the world to ban Islam.

After more than a year of controversy, the ban on full face veil in France has just come into effect. But some women are already vowing to defy the restriction, Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports from Paris. As the extreme right wing gains increasing popularity in France, President Sarkozy has been accused of trying to win back votes ahead of next year's presidential election by deliberately stigmatising Muslims. The government vehemently denies this, and argues that the full veil is a symbol of male oppression.
