Former Cuban president Fidel Castro says al-Qaeda terrorists have been engineered in order to advance the Bush administration's agenda.
In an essay published on Sunday, Castro said the terrorist group "was born from the empire's own entrails", using the term "empire" to refer to the United States.
After the Sept. 11 attacks, the Bush administration vowed to capture al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who has reportedly taken responsibility for the deadly attacks on US soils.
"[Al-Qaeda] is a typical example of an enemy that the hegemonic power dangles in a place of its choosing where it needs to justify its actions, as it has done throughout its history, fabricating enemies and attacks destined to strengthen its plans of domination," the former Cuban leader argued.
According to Castro, the American public has been mislead by the US government about the real extent of the terrorist attacks in 2001. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has also suggested that Washington could have been somehow involved in the planning of the attacks.
In the aftermath of the attacks, the White House launched the 'War on Terror' in a bid to disband al-Qaeda. While many civilians have been killed since the 2001 invasions of Afghanistan, followed by the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the US has failed to achieve its objectives in the region. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) program called "Operation Cyclone" is reportedly responsible for the creation of the terrorist group, when the CIA funded native Afghan militants in the conflict with the Soviet Union.
The al-Qaeda leader is reportedly planning a new terror attack against the US as President-elect Barack Obama takes office from the incumbent president, George W. Bush.
Earlier this month, a source close to the group claimed that Bin Laden is supervising preparations for another attack which will be far greater than those of 9/11.
US Vice President-elect Joe Biden had warned in October that Obama would face an international crisis early in his presidency

At least 62 al-Qaeda-linked militants have been killed in clashes with Iraqi security forces backed by local tribesmen in the western province of Anbar.
A tribal leader says the militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant were killed in Ramadi and a district east of the city. Earlier reports said the security forces were in control of most of the areas in Ramadi. They also managed to gain control of some more areas in the nearby city of Fallujah. The two cities in Anbar province have witnessed clashes between security forces and al-Qaeda-affiliated militants over the past several days. The violence broke out after the army removed an anti-government protest camp in Ramadi on Monday. Authorities said the camp was used by al-Qaeda-linked militants.

The Iraqi military has destroyed the camps of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province.
The assault comes after several senior officers and soldiers were killed during an operation against militants in the western province. The Iraqi defense ministry says the reason behind the rise in violence in Iraq is the spillover of the war in neighboring Syria. Baghdad says it has information that shows the arrival of weapons and advanced equipment from Syria to Anbar and Nineveh provinces. The build-up is said to have encouraged al-Qaeda-linked militants to revive some of their camps that had been destroyed in 2008. Deadly violence in Iraq has surged to the highest levels since 2008, when the country was on the brink of an all-out civil war.

A new report says al-Qaeda did not carry out last year\\\'s attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi that killed the US ambassador.
A bomb blast targeting the mission on September 11 left four Americans including US envoy Chris Stevens dead. The US later blamed al-Qaeda-linked groups for the explosion. The report by New York Times, however, says there\\\'s been no evidence of the involvement of any international group in the attack. The investigation added that local citizens might have been behind the bombing. It added that an anti-Muslim video and rumors that guards inside the American compound had shot Libyan protesters, could have been the trigger.

[08 Aug 2012] US uses al Qaeda for military adventure - English
The Israeli spy chief says Tel Aviv supports regime change in Syria, amid ongoing efforts by the anti-Syria governments to oust President Bashar al-Assad.
"I hope it (regime change in Syria) will happen, even though I don't know when or how," Dan Meridor, who also serves as the deputy prime minister of the Tel Aviv regime, said on Tuesday.
He also expressed "hope" that the "new Syria will understand that joining Iran is a mistake that brings isolation from the Western world."
The latest remarks by the Israeli official come as anti-Syria Western regimes along with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar have been supporting insurgents inside Syria.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Hamid Reza Emadi, a political commentator, to further shed light on the issue.

Nouri al-Maliki has, in a televised speech, demanded that the militants in Anbar province surrender. He\'s also promised to be lenient on them in case they turn themselves in. Iraqi troops have besieged Fallujah as they prepare for a major offensive to drive the militants out. But concerns about the lives of the city residents have complicated the operation. Meanwhile, Iraqi forces together with local tribesmen have reportedly taken control of 90 percent of the city of Ramadi in the same province. Local tribesmen have joined the army over the past week to reverse the surge of the al-Qaeda militancy. In the neighboring Babil province, government forces have arrested an al-Qaeda-linked leader and destroyed a militant camp in an airstrike.

The head of the so-called Free Syrian Army says his forces are ready to join the Syrian army and drive out al-Qaeda-linked terrorists who have taken over militant-held areas.
General Salim Idris has described as very dangerous the militant group calling itself as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or the I-S-I-S. Thousands of foreign militants have in recent months joined its ranks. General Idris also claimed that besides fighting with Syrian forces, the F-S-A forces have fought another war with al-Qaeda at dozens of different locations over the past six months. The so-called Free Syrian Army also says that it has dropped the precondition for President Bashar al-Assad to leave power before the upcoming Geneva peace conference.
