In the capital Tehran, people have gathered in one of the city\'s oldest mosques to mark the event. Kazem Sediqqi, Tehran\'s interim Friday prayers leader, delivered a speech there. Hundreds of thousands of people attended massive rallies on December 30, 2009, in response to months of political unrest that followed the presidential election held the same year. At the time, supporters of the defeated candidate claimed vote fraud and protested in the streets of Tehran and a few other cities. Dozens were killed and more injured in those riots.

The Kurdish fighters retook the town following fierce fighting with the Al-Qaeda linked militants, who were heavily occupying the area. Reports say the YPG forces have also advanced in al-Husseinia village which is located near Tal Hamis. Iraq once again threatens Turkey with tough measures over its oil deals with the Arab country\'s Kurdistan Regional Government.
Oil Minister Abdel-karim al-Luaybi says Ankara\'s plan to import oil from its northern region is a QUOTE red line for Iraqis. Al-Luaybi warned that his government will cancel all the current contracts with Turkey if it allows Kurdistan\'s oil to be exported to international markets. The Iraqi minister added that Ankara\'s decision is not in Turkey\'s interests. The remarks are made a day after the Iraqi minister said Baghdad will take legal action against Turkey over the issue. The row between the two sides deepened after Iraq\'s Kurdish region announced that its first direct shipment of oil to Turkey has gone on sale.

The European Union will immediately lift some of its economic sanctions against Iran now that the country has suspended enrichment of uranium to the 20-percent purity level at Natanz and Fordow nuclear sites.
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that these measures implemented the first steps of the historic agreement reached between Iran, the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany last November. The Islamic Republic has also started the process to dilute and oxidize its 196-kilos stockpile of 20-percent-enriched uranium. In exchange, the EU and the United States have agreed they will gradually release blocked funds.

Saudi media outlets have reported that the country\'s interior minister, Mohammed bin Nayef, will take over the intelligence chief post following his return from a trip to the US.
Saudi media outlets, citing Western security sources, say Mohammed bin Nayef will succeed Bandar bin Sultan as the intelligence chief. Nayef will also take over a number of external security affairs which have no relation with the intelligence department of the Interior Ministry. Bandar bin Sultan is accused of masterminding the terrorist networks that train and finance terrorists in Syria and some other countries in the region. Political analysts believe that the new appointment is being made to enhance the influence of Nayef in the government, especially in the area of ties with the US.
