[ Friday Khutba] Equality of Man in Islam; The Message of Hajj - Maulana...

- Importance of pondering over why Allah(s.w.t) wants us to go all the way to Makkah for hajj.
- Explanation of Aayat 97 of Surah Aale Imran where Allah(s.w.t) mentions how it is a duty for a Muslim to go for hajj if he has the ability to do so.
- Once the Kaaba’s walls were erected, Allah(s.w.t) asked Prophet Ibrahim to call people for hajj so that they could witness the benefits for themselves.
- There are many benefits when we go for Hajj.
- Getting to network and meet other business traders from around the world.
- The most important benefits are the spiritual and social dimensions of Hajj.
- Hajj is a powerful way of recognizing who we are.
- We shed away all the artificial identities that we have whether it applies to our clothing or political and economic status.
- Everyone is dressed in 2 pieces of Ehram (white cloth) which is a dress that does not belong to any other nation.
- Realizing that no matter what race, colour, ethnicity background or status in society we come from, we are all just servants of Allah(s.w.t) and nothing else.
- Islam does not say that you should not love people of your own tribe, culture or language. Infact, that is part of our innate nature.
- Islam is against discrimination and prejudice amongst the believers on the basis of race, colour, culture or language.
- According to the 4th Imam we will be accountable in the eyes of Allah (s.w.t) when we start preferring our own kind even if they are evil over the righteous ones from another tribe.
- “Asabiya” (discrimanation/bias) is when you support your own people even if they are unjust and wrong.
- Mention of the words of Malcom X, on the impact that hajj had on him from a letter that he wrote to his wife.
- Islam is a religion that is colour-blind and is our identity as part of a global Ummah (nation).
- Inspite of millions of Muslims going for hajj, we don’t see any changes when it comes to unity and equality amongst believers.
- Example of the way the rich gulf state treats Muslims from other nations.
- This attitude still present amongst those known as the custodians of the “haramayn”.
- “Mawali” is the plural of the word “mawla” which means slave or client.
- In the pre Islamic era, a foreigner would not have security for himself, his life and his property unless he would be affiliated with a local tribe. He would be a “mawla” of the tribe.
- Islam abolished this but it was later revived again. Only the school of the Ahlulbayt opposed this concept.
- The “mawalis” were attracted to the Ahlulbayt because they did not differentiate between Arab or non Arab, master or slave and rich or poor.
- Narration of a story from the life of Imam Ali Raza (a.s) of when he asked all the workers and slaves to join him and eat dinner together.
- Mention of all the Imams whose mothers were from different parts of the world. 4 of them being from the African continent.
- Molana Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi was the pioneer in tabligh among the African people.
- Today Bilal Muslim mission is the pride of the community while it was not the case in the early days.

[ Speech P-I] Husband & Wife Roles; Society vs Reality - Maulana Syed Muhammad Rizvi
- Roles and responsibilities of husbands and wives within the family system
- The comprehensive nature of Islam which has an opinion on all aspects of life
- The position of leadership of the husband within the family system, which comes with important responsibilities
- The description entailed within the role of \'manager\' or \'leader\' according ot Islam
- Why are gender roles different in Islam?
- Equality in Islam isn\'t to be considered the same as the concept of equality according to Western society
- The skills and qualities of husbands and wives which differ, dictate the general responsibilities of each individual
- The mandate set out by Islam still promotes individual growth and advancement, while still maintaining familial responsibilities
- Cultural practices spread and adopted within our communities, which are contrary to the spirit of Islam
\"This concept has nothing to do with inferiority & superiority. Rather it has to do with the unique roles assigned to a husband & wife, and the responsibilities to be fulfilled.\"

[Friday Sermon] The 3 Alifs to Live By | How to Approach Our Desires -...
- Importance of reminding ourselves of the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s).
- In a will to his brother, Muhammad Hanafia, Imam Hussain...
- Importance of reminding ourselves of the mission of Imam Hussain (a.s).
- In a will to his brother, Muhammad Hanafia, Imam Hussain (a.s) explains the purpose of his actions in 4 points:
-- He negates wrong motives towards himself knowing that people would try to portray him as having ulterior motives.
-- He then expresses what his purpose is, to seek reformation in the community of his grandfather.
-- He explains the method of the Islamic law that he is using: bidding people to do good and forbidding them from evil.
-- And lastly he confirms that what he is doing is continuing the path of his grand father and his father.
- Reform should be an ongoing process at an individual and collective level.
- Examples of reformation on a personal level: focusing on improving our prayers, reflections of our fasts, giving charity, reflection on our means of livelihood etc..
- Examples of reformation on a social level by taking lessons from Karbala: brotherhood and unity of fellow Muslims in spite of the diversity in race, colour, language and ethnic background, outlook towards Muslim community on a global level, outlook towards non-Muslim etc..
- Importance of responding to Imam Hussain’s(a.s) call by submitting our heart, ears, mind, eyes, opinions and desires to him.
- When our heart is longing for something that is not permissible then make the choice that Imam Hussain(a.s)would make.
- We are surrounded by different circles around us.
- Inner circle are the Shias of the Ahlulbayt.
- Bigger circle around it, is the Muslim community.
- Outer bigger circle is the humanity at large.
- 3 Alif to keep in mind when interacting which each circle of groups:
-- Ithaar which means to sacrifice. For the inner circle the expectation is to have willingness to sacrifice for one another.
-- Infaaq which means to be charitable. This needs to be applied towards the Muslim community at large.
-- Insaaf which means to be just. The minimum requirement towards the humanity at large is to be just towards them. That doesn’t mean you don’t need to be charitable towards them either.
- Ilm-ul Ghayb (knowledge of the unseen) is only given to the chosen ones by the grace of Allah.(s.w.t).
- Narration of the story of the thirst of Hur and his army to show that Imam Hussain(a.s) had ilm-e ghayb.
- Imam Hussain(a.s) did not ask Hur if he had come as a supporter or an enemy. He saw they were thirsty and he quenched their thirst. That’s called humanity. Yet he was denied water in Karbala.
- He used his ilm-e ghayb in order to guide others but he would never use it for his own benefit. That was his test and trial. He knew water would be stopped yet he did not fill extra water for his own self.
- He personally used less water then others. On the day of Ashura, the most thirsty person was Imam Hussain (a.s).
- We need to reflect and see how we treat one another.
- Importance for volunteers to realize that those who come for the commemoration are the guests of Imam Hussain(a.s) and the volunteer is the host on behalf of Imam Hussain(a.s). So they should treat the guests well.
- It’s the kindness that Imam Hussain (a.s) showed towards them, that eventually brought back Hur to Imam’s camp and he then attained martyrdom.

- Minimum wage mandatory raise in the province of Ontario and its reactions within all aspects of society.
- Employees receive higher wages, however some employers cut off other benefits and plans as a result.
- In any country, when the government want to handle their own finances or budgets, it’s always the poor section of the society who suffers the most.
- On the other hand, officials and executives continue living a lavish lifestyle.
- Narration of Khutba # 209 of Nahjul Balagha.
- The advice given in the above Khutba is relevant to us even today.
- The executives who cut budgets should first start from themselves.
- Imam Ali(a.s) was not poor. He had many properties and wells that he gave away as waqf for charity.
- Imam Ali(a.s) ate only dry bread in-spite of having the means. This was to maintain the lowest level so that even the poor people of the society could relate to him.
- Imam Ali(a.s) is an eternal example for the Muslim world and the wise people of the world.
- Islam does not believe in complete isolation in order to enhance spirituality.
- We can use the luxury of this world but not become its slave.
- Islam only believes in temporary isolation known as ‘iteqaf’
- What we need to be careful of is the ‘greed’.
- Example of the fly that sits on the sugar and of the fly that sits on honey.
- We should not submerge into the luxury of this world and become its slave.
- Quote of passages from dua # 8 and #39 of the 4th Imam from Sahifa Sajjadiyya.

- Before the battle of Badr there was an abundance of poverty
- Allah discusses the mental health of the people
- In traditions there aren\'t a lot of of optimists and realists
- The Prophet was an \'Optimistic Realist\'
- Allah tells the prophet (to console him) that though he lost 2 sons, he will gain something better in the progeny through Fatima (of the 14 Masumeens)
- Allah says if you suffer grief, connect with him
- Spread optimism and surely joy shall come to your heart
- Try to see the best of people and their circumstances
- Bibi Fatima showed optimism even in her last days
- The Quality that made the prophet Unique was that he was the most optimistic

- One of the worst sins is to lose hope in God\'s mercy
- God\'s mercy has not limit no matter how far astray we go
- The path way to God is more numerous then every single breath of the whole mankind
- Tawheed is not just an idea its a way of life
- The limited (creations) can never understand the unlimited (God)
- The prayer of the night washes the bad deeds of the day
- God says \"regret for doing something bad is better than some one doing tasbih and glorifying me\"
- Salawat is very powerful because it demolishes sins
- Prolonging sajda brings you closer to God as does being in a state of wuduh
- Imam says \"good character melts sins like the sun melts the ice\"
- Islam was built on aqlaq
- If you visit a sick person Allah sends 70,000 angels to make dua for you until you reach your home
- When you do salaam to the Prophet he will send his duas upon you

- Being biologically alive is different than being spiritual alive
- Prophet Muhammed says: if it was not for your excessive speech you could have seen what i see (how i view the world)
- 5 Habits one can develop to be more spiritual:
1. Don\'t talk unless it is necessary
2. Don\'t eat beyond what is needed
3. Don\'t sleep more than necessary
4. Reflecting regularly
5. Remembering Allah constantly
- Allah says that his believers are the ones who ponder over his creations (3:191)
