Bahrain triggers human rights uproar
As many as 26 human rights organizations have called on the international community to address Bahrain's suppression of rights advocates and Shias population, an Egyptian institute says.
"We stress the international community's responsibility for curbing the security campaign aimed at silencing human rights defenders and concealing the grave abuses committed by the authorities against the citizenry, particularly the Shia community," the organizations said in a petition.
The bodies warned about "the authorities' increasing crackdown on the different forms of expression and peaceful association and assembly" and "the government's growing tendency to set the law aside in favor of naked force, detention, the torture and abuse of peaceful opponents," one of the cosignatories, the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS), said in a press release on Wednesday.
They said Manama maintained "a policy of systematic discrimination and marginalization of the Shia majority."
The Shia opposition refuses to recognize the 2002 constitution and has called for a boycott of the upcoming parliamentary elections, set for October 23. The protesting organizations also said that the suppression campaign was meant "to pave the way for wide-ranging election fraud."
Despite their demographic predominance in the kingdom, the Shias have long complained about being discriminated against by the Bahraini government when it comes to obtaining jobs and receiving services.
Earlier in the month, the Manama government revoked the citizenship of leading Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Hussein al-Najati, who represents top Iraqi cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in Bahrain, as well as the citizenship of his family.
An outspoken critic of the government, Sheikh Abdul Jaleel al-Miqdad, has also been prohibited from leading the Friday Prayers.
The Bahraini government has arrested more than 250 Shias since August, accusing 23 of them of plotting a coup and provoking "violence, rioting and terrorism."

The revolution in Bahrain gained momentum. You may remember the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, set up by the Al-Khalifa regime recently to investigate reports of rights abuse during the crackdown.
The Commission's findings accused the regime of using excessive force, cited rights abuses, and called for steps to be taken for these incidents not to occur.
Yet this past week, Saudi-backed forces yet again attacked anti-regime protesters, injuring dozens. In one example, police arrested human rights activist Zainab al-Khawaja near the capital Manama. Zainab's relatives said she'd been handcuffed, dragged and beaten by the police.

Bahraini security forces have once again clashed with anti-government protesters in the suburbs of the capital Manama.
The clashes broke out in the village of Sanabis following the funeral of 15-year old Ahmad Abdul-Amir Ali. He was critically injured in an explosion near a warehouse on Friday. Reports say Ahmad died because the ambulance taking him to hospital was stopped by security forces. Bahrain\'s main opposition group al-Wefaq called the teenager a martyr and urged people to participate in his funeral.

A mass demonstration marking one-thousand days of anti-government protests in Bahrain.
Demonstrators rallied near the capital Manama calling for an inclusive political solution. The main opposition bloc al-Wefaq says several protest organizers have been arrested by regime forces. Al-Wefaq says the arrests have been made to curb people\'s right to hold peacefull rallies. Protesters have been calling for the downfall of the regime since the popular uprising started in February 2011. Dozens of people have been killed and a large number of demonstrators arrested in the crackdown since then.

[22 May 2012] Bahrain HR breach embarrassing for US - English
Bahraini protesters in several villages near the capital, Manama, have held demonstrations against the US support for the Al Khalifa regime. Anti-regime demonstrators took to the streets in several villages near Manama on Monday, carrying placards that read, "Death to America" and "Down with King Hamad," referring to the Bahraini monarch. The demonstrators censured Washington for ignoring the Bahraini regime's violation of rights of the peaceful protesters.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Hisham Jaber, the director of the Middle East Studies Center from Beirut, to shed more light on the issue.

Bahrain is the scene of yet another anti-government rally. The protest west of Manama was joined by the leader of the main opposition bloc Al-Wefaq.
Sheikh Ali Salman attended the rally in the village of Shakhora to condemn the jailing of photographers and activists by the Al Khalifa regime. The protest comes as Manama continues its brutal crackdown against opposition leaders and activists calling for democratic change in the Persian Gulf Kingdom. The Al Khalifa regime has detained hundreds of opposition activists since the revolution started in 20-11. Scores of protesters have died in the crackdown and many others have been given lengthy jail sentences for attending anti-regime protests.

National dialog in Bahrain fails. Manama has suspended negotiations with Shia opposition leaders as anti-monarchy demonstrations continue in the kingdom.
The country\'s state news agency, B-N-A says the national dialog ended after the opposition said it would not participate in talks. The opposition\'s decision came after security forces arrested the secretary general of the main opposition party, Al-Wefaq. Authorities have charged Khalil Al Marzooq with inciting and advocating terrorism in his speeches. The opposition denies the charges. Meanwhile, fresh pro-democracy protests have been held in several towns including in Sanabis and Samahis. Manama, has so far refused to heed the nation\'s demand and responded with a harsh security crackdown. Security forces have killed dozens of protesters and injured many more.
