Syrian government forces have gunned down nearly a hundred militants in a region east of the capital Damascus since Friday. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 96 people from the opposition front were killed during fierce clashes in the East Ghuta region. More than 50 of them were killed on Sunday alone. The monitoring group says 56 Syrian soldiers also lost their lives in the fighting. Syria has been the scene of unrest since nearly three years ago. Damascus blames some foreign countries for the ongoing conflict.
