A National Syrian forum has been held in Damascus. It was attended by pro-government and political opposition bodies.
Points of view varied on various issues but when it came to Geneva 2 conference, there was consensus that only Syrians should decide their future. Internal opposition parties also said they were not even invited to the international gathering slated for January 22. The Syrian National Coordination Body for Democratic Change says it has not received an invitation to attend the Geneva 2 conference either.

[22 July 2012] Tensions high over Lebanon national dialogue - English
After Lebanese president Michel Suleiman finally succeeded in resuming national dialogue in June between Lebanese factions, the prospects of its continuation look bleak.
The March 14 movement announced its intention to boycott the upcoming dialogue session over what it called Hezbollah's refusal to discuss its arms. March 14 has long demanded that dialogue tackle what it calls the illegitimate arms, accusing Hezbollah of making decisions of war and peace.

In reaction to the meeting of the so-called Friends of Syria in London, Damascus says no foreign party will be involved in deciding the country\'s leadership.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the Syrian people are the only ones who can choose their leaders. The statement says Syrians will not allow any foreign party to impose its will on them when it comes to choosing a government or determining the state powers. The statement comes after the so-called Friends of Syria supported the insurgents in the country. They said after their meeting on Tuesday that they\'ve agreed with the external opposition that President Bashar al-Assad will have no place in the future of the Middle Eastern nation. The meeting of the group of 11 Western and Arab countries plus the foreign-backed opposition, was held ahead of a planned peace conference on Syria in late November.

Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani says Tehran wants to enrich uranium on its soil within the framework of the recent nuclear deal with the P-five-plus-one countries. He says Iran is committed to its peaceful nuclear program.
During a meeting with visiting Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, President Rouhani also said the Geneva agreement recognizes all Iran\'s rights including the right to enrich uranium. He added efforts by some countries to interpret the agreeement in other ways would damage efforts aimed at building mutual trust. The Iranian president also discussed Tehran\'s cooperation with Moscow on a range of issues, mainly regional peace and security, fight against terrorism, and the Syrian crisis. Lavrov, in turn, said that under international law all countries should have access to a peaceful nuclear program including uranium enrichment. He said Iran and Russia have a similar take on the nuclear deal struch in Geneva. Earlier, the top Russian diplomat held separate talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif over the conflict in Syria and Iran\'s nuclear program.

Russia has repeated its allegations that foreign-backed insurgents in Syria were behind the chemical weapons attacks in the country. Russia\'s UN ambassador says the US has provided no proof that the Syrian government was involved in the attacks.
Vitaly Churkin said that the claims that the Syrian government carried out the chemical weapons attacks are not persuasive. He added that Moscow views last August\'s deadly sarin gas attack outside Damascus as a provocation by the militants. The remarks came after a closed-door meeting on a UN investigation into the chemical weapons attacks in Syria. At the meeting, Russia and Western nations remained at loggerheads over who is to blame for the attacks. But UN experts recently said they have credible information that chemical weapons were used against the Syrian army and civilians. However, the U-N report has not determined whether the Syrian government or foreign-backed insurgents were responsible for the attacks.

Representatives from the US, Russia, China, Syria and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons are to meet in Moscow to discuss ways of safely destroying Syria\\\'s chemical arms.
The meeting will be held behind closed doors. This, as a Russian official says Syria\\\'s chemical weapons will be taken out of the country through its maritime borders. The Arab country agreed to the destruction of its chemical arsenal after the August 21 deadly gas attack near Damascus. The Syrian government and Russia have repeatedly said that the attack was carried out by insurgents to provoke Western governments, particularly the U-S into a military intervention in Syria.

The coalition of peaceful change forces in Syria held a press conference in the Syrian capital Damascus, affirming the need to multiply efforts for bringing all Syrian sides together on the table of dialogue. A number of political parties, movements and committees issued a statement and welcomed the Russian American initiative that calls for a political resolution of conflict. The coalition said a political solution should be based on ending violence by all sides, rejecting the militarization of the unrest. The Syrian government had also welcomed the agreement between Russia and the US on the basis that it seeks a political solution for the Syrian dilemma.
