Lebanese President Michel Suleiman is urging rival political factions to ensure the needed quorum in parliament for the election of Lebanon\\\'s next president.Suleiman\\\'s six-year-term expires in May 2014 and is preceded by a two-month constitutional period. Lebanon\\\'s first man has also kicked off talks with Lebanese rival factions in a bid to help Prime-Minister Designate \\\"Tammam Salam\\\" form a cabinet line-up prior to the two-month constitutional period. The cabinet line-up formation however has been in limbo for the past 9 months namely due to the Saudi-backed March 14 Bloc\\\'s boycott of parliamentary sessions citing Hezbollah\\\'s intervention in Syria as a pretext. The Saudi-backed March 14th Bloc is now calling for a neutral line-up while the Hezbollah-led March 8th is calling for an all-embracing cabinet while rejecting a De-Facto one. The proposal of a neutral cabinet has also been slammed by Lebanese Druze Leader Walid Jumblat who warned it would be a \\\"leap into the unknown\\\". Meanwhile, the Free Patriotic Movement has accused the March 14th Bloc of paving the way for a presidential vacuum through the continued boycott of parliamentary sessions dubbing the movement\\\'s obstruction of government institutions as part of instructions taken from their regional allies pre-Geneva II talks. The Free Patriotic Movement MP also highlighted what he described as an alarming pledge by Riyadh\\\'s ambassador to London who vowed continued military and financial support for the foreign-backed groups fighting in Syria even if Saudi Arabia goes it alone. The MP warned the March 14th Bloc of following their Saudi ally\\\'s footsteps as well. Though Lebanon\\\'s President has vowed a smooth transition of power rebuffing any attempt to extend his mandate, fears of a vacuum at the presidential post are simmering in Beirut for their grave consequences on Lebanon. Lebanese leaders are warning that the presidential vacuum added to the cabinet limbo would tow the country into security, political and constitutional chaos.

Amid the massive turnout of voters in Friday\'s elections, Iranian presidential candidates have joined the rest of the nation in casting their ballots. Shortly after the polls opened, independent candidate Mohammad Gharazi showed up at a polling station in southeast Tehran and cast his vote. Describing June 14 as a national day, Gharazi said the real winner of the elections is the Iranian people and stressed that whoever wins the race bears a great responsibility. Presidential candidate Hassan Rohani also cast his ballot on Friday morning. He urged all Iranians to make their presence felt on the political arena and further reinforce the Islamic Republic by turning out in force in the elections. After casting his ballot, Principlist candidate Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also emphasized that popular vote is tantamount to law, adding that the candidate who emerges victorious should be respected by all. Ali Akbar Velayati, another Principlist candidate, also urged Iranians to take part in the election fervidly, saying people\'s vote was the reaffirmation of the Islamic Republic. Independent candidate Mohsen Rezaei, for his part, urged a massive turnout in the elections. He called upon all Iranians to play an active role in determining their fate. Principlist candidate Saeed Jalili also called for a high voter turnout and stressed that all people should respect he who is elected. Speaking to reporters after casting his vote minutes after the opening of the polls early Friday, the Leader stressed the importance of the Iranian nation\\\'s \\\"effective, timely, massive and enthusiastic\\\" participation in the elections. \\\"The dear Iranian people should enter the scene of elections with fervour and motivation, and [they should] know that the destiny of the country and prosperity of the nation depend on their presence and the choice they make,\\\" Ayatollah Khamenei stated. The Leader said the Iranian people play a key role in determining their fate, and that is the reason behind enemies\\\' propaganda campaigns against the nation. The enemies have made every effort to create voter apathy in Iran by trying to incite \\\"cynicism and despair\\\" among Iranians, Ayatollah Khamenei underlined. They have not stopped with media propaganda to achieve their goal, said the Leader, adding that Western politicians and figures affiliated with the enemies are now overtly trying to discourage people from taking part. In Iran, the spotlight is on the June 14 presidential election. The crucial vote will determine the path the country will be taking for the next four years. This has to great extent undermined the city and village council elections which are set to be held on the same day as the presidential election. Since the victory of the Islamic revolution Iranians have gone to the polls three times to vote for the city and village councils. A fourth round was to be held in June 2010 but was postponed for three years according to a decision made by the parliament. This year 352 thousand hopefuls have registered to compete for 207 thousand seats around the country. Unlike other elections held in Iran, the Guardian Council is not responsible for the vetting process. Instead a parliamentary committee has to decide which of the candidates are qualified to run. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, on average one election has been held each year but the fourth round of city and village council elections is different in many ways. First and foremost it is going be the biggest election ever held in the history of Iran in terms of the number of candidates and the number of seats at stake. According to law any village with a population of over 100 should have its own council tasked with paving the way for the social, economic, and cultural development of the community that it represents. In this edition of the show we will be taking a closer look at the preparations made for this round of city and village council elections and the role these councils have played in the development of cities and villages and the services that they provide.

Opinion polls show the presidential election is headed for a runoff. They also predict a 60-percent turnout in the polls. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election.

Afghanistan is preparing for a new chapter in its politics! Things are getting ready for the upcoming presidential and provincial councils elections across 34 provinces. Afghanistan\'s presidential election will be held on the 5th of April. Security officials have promised to take full control of the security situation. The Independent Election Commission is also working seriously, so, if all goes well, Afghanistan gets a peaceful and democratic transition of power in its political history. In the meantime, the United Nation Mission in Afghanistan has also welcomed the coming vote, The UNAMA believes \"This election is a major step in developing the democratic system and bringing more stability and predictability to the nation.\"

Around 51 million eligible voters in Iran are getting ready to cast their votes in the Friday presidential election as the six candidates wrapped up their final day of campaigning across the country on Wednesday. Ahead of the vote, the national opinion polls indicate that more than 60 percent of the eligible voters will take part in the country\'s 11th presidential election. The Iranian voters will have to choose among six candidates who have stayed in the race. Recent polls also suggest that presidential election might go for a run-off, setting the stage for a fierce race between the two top candidates.

Iranian expatriates in over 90 countries are also voting to choose a new president for their country. Over 850,000 ballot papers have been sent to polling stations overseas.

A former Israeli official says Tel Aviv has killed most of the people behind the deadly attacks on its embassy and a Jewish center in Argentina in the nineties. Itz-hak Aviran, who was the Israeli envoy in Argentina before retiring in 2000, made the remarks in an interview with Argentine media. He said Israel\\\'s secret service agents were responsible for the killings. Argentinian courts blamed Iran for the AMIA bombing in which 85 people died in Buenos Aires. Tehran, however, has strongly rejected such accusations. Iran and Argentina signed a memorandum of understanding last year to jointly probe the bombing in the Argentinian capital.
