Iran\'s foreign minister believes a framework deal could be reached THIS WEEK over his country\'s nuclear energy program. Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remarks in an interview with France 24 television in Paris. But he said it wouldn\'t be a disaster if a breakthrough was not made. Syria\'s deputy foreign minister has blasted foreign supporters of insurgency in his country. Faisal Mekdad says the US and France are providing lethal weapons to militants. Mekdad says Saudi Arabia and Israel are playing a lethal role in the conflict. He says Riyadh and Tel Aviv are closely coordinating their actions and funneling cash and weapons to insurgents. He also pointed out that the determination of the Syrian people and army are defusing plots hatched by supporters of the militants.

Syria\'s Deputy Foreign Minister says no agenda has been agreed on for the so-called peace talks in Geneva, blaming the opposition party of refusing to discuss the issue of terrorism. Meqdad added that the opposition is only trying to waste time. He made the remarks after holding the second round of negotiations with the foreign-backed opposition in Geneva. The first round of talks last month produced no tangible results, with each side blaming the other for the ongoing violence. But according to U-N envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, some common ground was reached.

Faisal Meqdad was talking to reporters at a news conference on the sidelines of the Geneva-two conference. The remarks were made after the morning session between the Syrian government delegation and that of the opposition\'s was adjourned over the latter\'s support for the U-S decision to continue arming terrorist groups in Syria. The afternoon session of talks between the two sides was cancelled earlier due to disagreements over the basis of the talks. The Geneva-two talks have already been deadlocked amid sharp differences between the two sides. The foreign-backed opposition is demanding the formation of a government without President Bashar al-Assad. But Damascus says it won\'t accept the request, as it\'s not included in the Geneva communique which has already been announced as the basis of the talks.

Iranian presidential candidate Ali Akbar Velayati says it is possible to fix the Islamic Republic\'s economic problems by reforming the country\'s foreign policy. The Iranian former foreign minister made the remarks in a televised interview in Tehran on Monday. \"The issue of foreign affairs... and the domestic economy have close ties to one another,\" he said. Velayati, who is currently serving as an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, stated that he would pursue Iran\'s nuclear rights if elected in the upcoming presidential election. \"I would like to assure our dear people that we will solve the nuclear issue by preserving the nuclear rights and we will boost international relations without relinquishing an iota of Iran\'s rights.\" The Principlist candidate added that Iran has \"billions of dollars in foreign countries,\" and that \"we need an active diplomacy,\" to return it. He also emphasized boosting the country\'s economy by privatizing state-run sectors, increasing production, and fully implementing the state subsidy program. Iran\\\'s deputy foreign minister has rejected Bahrain\\\'s accusations, alleging that Tehran is involved in regional crises. Hossein Amir Abdollahian emphasized that Tehran is in favor of political solutions to crises across the region, including the unrest in Bahrain. He noted that Iran views the situation in Bahrain as an internal issue, adding that only the Bahraini people are entitled to decide their own future. He however advised the Manama government against adopting wrong measures to deal with the unrest. While the dust from post-election unrest is settling in Iran, the Islamic Republic condemns foreign interference by certain Western states in the country's internal affairs. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hassan Qashqavi, said Monday that some European countries and the US have played a major role in provoking the post-election violence that killed scores of people in the past few days. He made the remarks as the latest pictures show the traffic is normal on Tehran streets, which witnessed calm on Monday and the day before. On Saturday, 'terrorist elements'-who had infiltrated the rallies --created the most violent day of protests by setting fire on a mosque and two gas stations as well as killing a number of people. “With the main goal of sowing ethnic discord, Western powers have interfered in the election process by hyperbolizing the protests staged against the Iranian poll results,” said Qashqavi in an address to his weekly press conference. “France has even gone as far as calling for the annulment of the election outcome. What right do they have to make such inappropriate and irresponsible remarks?” asked Qashqavi. Qashqavi asserted that the Tehran government is planning to respond to the stepped-up “foreign interference” in due time. Qashqavi went on to criticize foreign media outlets for dramatizing the post-election developments taking place in Iran, saying their efforts to launch a cyber war against the government is “totally out of line”. “They have resorted into hacking Iranian news sites as a means to widen the gap between the government and the people,” he said. Earlier on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had also warned Europe and the US against meddling with Iran's domestic issues. Over the past few days, Washington and a slew of European powers have adopted a raucous stance on the June 12 election, which saw incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad win by a landslide. Defeated presidential rivals Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have called for the nullification of the results and demanded a re-run, giving rise to eight consecutive days of protests and illegal rallies.

Iran\'s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, is in Moscow. In a press conference he told reporters that he\'s had several meetings with Russian authorities to discuss the Syrian conflict. According to the Iranian official, the Geneva 2 conference is very close to taking place.
