Human Rights Watch says Bahraini security forces have often used disproportionate amounts of tear gas in their crackdown on anti-regime protests. The rights group cites a document released by a Bahrain rights watch which says the Interior Ministry issued a tender back in June for supplies of one-point-six million tear gas canisters and 145000 stun grenades. The number of tear gas shells appears to be greater than the country\'s population of 1-point-2 million of which nearly 560-thousand are Bahraini nationals. This means that almost three tear gas canisters have been bought for every Bahraini civilian. South Korea and a joint South African-German company are the main suppliers of tear gas to the Persian Gulf kingdom, which has been cracking down on peaceful protests since early 2011. Bahraini protesters have been seeking the downfall of the ruling Al Khalifah monarchy.

[27 May 2012] Western media tight-lipped over Bahrain - English Anti-regime demonstrators in the Bahraini village of Dair have blocked roads and set tires on fire in an act of protest against the ruling Al Khalifa regime. Meanwhile, Bahraini regime forces attacked the houses of leading protesters in Salihiya and arrested dozens of people. Saudi-backed Bahraini forces have attacked a funeral procession held for a 17-year-old youth killed by regime forces in the northwestern village of Bani Jamra.

Egyptian security forces have once again attacked anti-government protesters joining rallies in several cities, killing four protesters. Dozens of others were injured as security forces fired tear gas and shots at protesters in the capital Cairo, Alexandria and the canal city of Suez. Several demonstrators were also wounded when thugs attacked supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi in the northern city of Damietta. The clashes erupted when anti-government protesters joined rallies after Friday prayers to denounce plans by Defense Minister Abdul Fatah Sisi to run for president. They are also angry over a presidential law issued on Thursday that installs the defense minister as the supreme commander of the military council. Egypt has been the scene of weekly protests since the country\'s first democratically- elected president was ousted last July.

Manama, with the direct backing of Saudi Arabia, has cracked down on the protests with all possible means. Israeli forces have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the East Jerusalem al-Quds to disperse Palestinian protesters there. This comes ahead of discussions in the Israeli parliament later today on a plan to annex the holy site. Some reports suggest that at least 20 Palestinians have been injured and three others arrested in the crackdown. The Al-Aqsa compound is Islam\'s third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. In recent months, Israeli forces and settlers have stepped up their attacks on the mosque, leading to violent confrontations between the two sides. Back in 2000, a provocative visit to the site by former Israeli premier Ariel Sharon triggered a second Intifada or uprising during which thousands of Palestinians were killed and injured.

Saeed Shehabi of the Bahrain Freedom Movement believes the Bahraini regime will not survive the demonstrations, despite the support of the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Egypt is witnessing another day of violence. Clashes have broken out between security forces and pro-Morsi protesters in the capital Cairo and the country\'s second largest city, Alexandria. Security forces attacked student protesters on the campus of al-Azhar University in Cairo. Reports from Egypt say several other universities in the capital have also become the scene of violent clashes between security forces and student protesters. Clashes have also been reported from two areas in Alexandria as people demanded an end to the military rule and the reinstatement of the ousted president, Mohamed Morsi. Several people were detained as police tried to disperse demonstrators. On Tuesday, security forces clashed with students on two university campuses in Cairo and the Asyut governorate. The health ministry has confirmed that 36 people were injured in the violence there. Egyptian universities have recently witnessed mass student rallies in support of the toppled leader.

They also claim that he was wanted for criminal offences. Bahrain has been the scene of pro-democracy rallies for more than two years now. The Al Khalifah is responding with heavy-handed tactics which have led to scores of deaths and thousands of detentions.

On its Twitter account, Bahrain\'s Interior Ministry accused Sabbagh of being a terrorist and claimed he was trying to plant a bomb. The Bahraini security forces have also arrested Sabbagh\'s father. After news of the teenager\'s death broke, Bahrainis took to the streets across the island and held demonstrations.
