Iran unveils a new air defense system. On Monday Iran\\\'s Defense Ministry alongside the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Aerospace Force (IRGC AF) unveiled a domestically built mobile air defense system called \\\"Herze 9\\\". Iran\\\'s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi commented on this new achievement. \\\"Herze 9\\\" can identify and target enemy helicopters, rockets and fighter jets at low ranges and low altitudes of about 8-12 kilometers. This mobile air defense system uses the most technologically advanced computer hardware and software and the latest navigation system available today. Brig. Gen. The U-N says nearly a million Palestinians are expected to need food aid in the Gaza Strip next year. About 800-thousand Palestinian refugees are currently receiving food aid from the U-N Relief and Works Agency-- UNRWA-- but the organization expects a 10 to 20 percent rise in demand in 20-14. The U-N\'s Gaza director of operations says the main reason for the increase is Egypt\'s closure of Gaza tunnels-- a measure which has deprived thousands of Palestinians of basic goods, halted construction projects, and led to job losses. The tunnels were the only lifeline for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The coastal enclave has been under the Israeli regime\'s blockade since 2007.

Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani says the world\'s most dangerous terrorists have now come together in Syria. Rouhani has told visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi that terrorism and extremism put nations in the region and across the world in danger. Rouhani said all countries should now unite to fight against this danger. He said that Iran has spared no effort to avert a foreign military strike on Syria. The Iranian president said that Tehran has urged all its neighbors to help lessen the sufferings of the Syrian people in the wake of the nearly three-year-long conflict in the country.

Iran\'s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says Tehran pursues a policy of peaceful coexistence and closer ties with its neighbors. During his meeting with Oman\'s Sultan Qaboos, Zarif emphasized that Iran holds great respect for Oman as a neighboring country, and is prepared for the expansion of bilateral relations. The top diplomat also called on Saudi Arabia to work together with Iran toward achieving regional stability. For his part, the Omani king said there are proper grounds to expand ties with Iran. Zarif entered Oman after visiting Kuwait on the second leg of his regional tour. He is now in Qatar and may also visit Saudi Arabia.

The US National Security Agency has justified tracking the data of millions of people, wherever they are in the world. The NSA says its tracking of cell phones overseas is legally authorized under a presidential order. The intelligence agency says it isn\'t tracking every foreign phone call, and it takes measures to limit how much US data is collected. It was revealed earlier this week that the NSA gathers up to five billion records every day on the location data for hundreds of millions of cell phones worldwide. Documents supplied by whistleblower Edward Snowden detail how the NSA is applying sophisticated mathematical techniques to map cell phone owners\' relationships.

The head of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons the OPCW says Israel and several other countries should join the chemical arms treaty. Ahmed Uzum-ju received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the Organization in Oslo. The Hague based organization was awarded the prize for its efforts to eliminate Syria\'s chemical arms arsenal. The OPCW sent experts to Syria after a sarin gas attack killed more than 1400 people in the Damascus Countryside in August. Both the government and foreign backed insurgents blamed each other for the attack. Later on, the Syrian government agreed to give up the country\'s chemical weapons arsenal to avert a US attack on Syrian soil.

China has warned the United States to be cautious in its words and actions with regard to territorial disputes involving China and its neighbors. The Chinese Foreign Ministry warning comes amid a diplomatic wrangle over Beijing\\\'s newly announced air defense zone in the East China Sea. Before this, Washington had warned Beijing against imposing an air defense zone over both the South China Sea and East China Sea. US State Secretary John Kerry said recently that Washington would help its regional allies in protecting their territorial waters. China and its neighbors lay similar claims to parts of the strategic and resource-rich seas. The development comes days after Chinese fighter jets chased the US and Japanese military aircraft inside China\\\'s newly declared Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. Chinese defense authorities say they have sent more fighter jets to the zone. The Chinese air force described the mission as a defensive measure in line with international law. China says foreign aircraft passing through the airspace, including passenger planes, will have to identify themselves to Chinese authorities. The zone includes the skies over islands at the heart of a territorial dispute between Japan and China. China is also locked in territorial rows with the Philippines over wide swathes of the South China Sea and has said it might set up a similar zone there. Senior Chinese officials have repeatedly called on Washington not to take sides over the issue.

Iran tests radars on 3rd day of drills Iran's military has entered the third day of its biggest ever nationwide air drills, with testing radar capabilities in defending the country's territory. The anti-air defense units from Iran's Armed Forces and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) are taking part in the five-day air defense maneuvers dubbed Defenders of Velayat Skies, which began on Tuesday. According to the spokesman for the military drills Brigadier Hamid Arzhangi, various kinds of fixed and mobile radars that have been domestically manufactured or refurbished would be tested during the third day of the drills on Thursday. He further explained that radars would be used to detect and identify objects and pass relevant data to the operational units. The military official added that all types of the country's radar systems, which would relay intelligence to the unified command and control network of the central headquarters, would be utilized and examined during the third day of the maneuvers. He pointed out that reconnaissance missions to detect state-of-the-art systems of theatrical enemies using radars were also on the agenda of the third day of drills. During the second day of the maneuvers on Wednesday, advanced equipment used for communication and exchange of intelligence along with modern electro-optical systems were successfully tested and utilized. The air maneuvers are being held near Iran's strategic sights and landmarks, aiming to assess performance of new air defense systems and enhance rapid response capabilities in countering potential aerial attacks. Iranian military officials say the drills convey a message of peace and friendship to neighboring countries and a fierce warning against enemies. Iran simulates Electronic Warfare in drills An Iranian commander says the Air Force has "analyzed and conducted" Electronic Warfare (EW) missions during the first three days of its biggest defense drills. "EW means jamming the enemies' electronic systems, equipment, and capabilities and the mission of this war is to seize and control electromagnetic fields," Colonel Moharam Qolizadeh said on Thursday. "We have analyzed and conducted EW missions in the drills [dubbed] 'Modafean Aseman Velayt 3' (Guardians of Velayati Skies)," he added. The colonel said the maneuvers were aimed at "spotting [the enemy] without being spotted" and tapping the enemy communications lines without compromising transmissions by Iranian forces. Earlier on Thursday, the spokesman for the military drills Brigadier General Hamid Arzhangi said Iran had successfully tested a new generation of its first domestically-manufactured air defense system during the third day of the nationwide air drills. The Mersad (Ambush) modern medium-range system is capable of spotting and destroying advanced aircraft at low and high altitudes. In addition to its high mobility, Mersad's new generation can be used in electronic warfare and can be networked with other radar and defense systems, Arzhangi added. The forces were also set to test various models of fixed and mobile radars that have been domestically manufactured or refurbished. The Iraqi military has destroyed the camps of al-Qaeda-linked militants in Anbar province. The assault comes after several senior officers and soldiers were killed during an operation against militants in the western province. The Iraqi defense ministry says the reason behind the rise in violence in Iraq is the spillover of the war in neighboring Syria. Baghdad says it has information that shows the arrival of weapons and advanced equipment from Syria to Anbar and Nineveh provinces. The build-up is said to have encouraged al-Qaeda-linked militants to revive some of their camps that had been destroyed in 2008. Deadly violence in Iraq has surged to the highest levels since 2008, when the country was on the brink of an all-out civil war.

Clashes between police and gunmen at an anti-government protest camp in central Iraq have left over a dozen people dead. The violence came after security forces were deployed to dismantle the camp in the city of Ramadi in Anbar province. Police sources say the clashes broke out when gunmen opened fire on security forces. At least ten gunmen and three policemen were killed. The defense ministry says the decision to remove the protest camp came after a deal reached between the ministry, tribal leaders and local government. Now, there are also reports of heavy gunfire in the city of Falouja in the same province. Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki had repeatedly vowed to remove the one-year-old camp accusing protesters of stirring strife and sheltering al-Qaeda-linked militants.

Iraq\'s Defense Minister says the army along with Sunni tribesmen were able to gain full control of the city of Al-Bu Ali Jasim in Iraq\'s Northern Anbar province. Fierce clashes have been underway between Iraqi security forces and militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant there since late December. The Defense Ministry has issued a statement saying that Sunni tribesmen were a big help in the equation. Meanwhile, Iraq\'s capital Baghdad has been plagued with car bombs. The bombs have targeted heavily-populated areas and have killed at least 70 civilians this week alone. The Iraqi army has also claimed gains in the city of Sulaiman Bek. But the number of refugees from areas attacked by the militants keeps increasing with the UNHCR saying that over 300,000 refugees have fled the city of Fallujah and Ramadi in the Anbar province
