[29 April 2012] UNRWA; Empowering Palestinian Youth Refugees - Remember Palestine - English
A two-day international conference on "Engaging Youth: Palestine Refugees in a Changing Middle East" convened by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), concluded on the 20th of April in Brussels with UNRWA Commissioner-General, Filippo Grandi, unveiling ten "Youth Commitments" on behalf of the UN Agency. The commitments also included enhanced vocational training and micro-finance opportunities, fundraising for scholarships, expanding its successful skills programme for young refugees first piloted in Syria, advocacy on rights of special concern to youth.
The idea of the conference was to increase Youth participation, economically empowering refugee youth, building and investing in human capital, and youth confronting marginalisation. The edition of the show will focus on the perspectives of youth Palestinians and how the new generations of Palestinians refuges manage pending inherited issues as their right to return and how organizations like the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) can help to empower them.

[22 July 2012] Palestinian refugees face unjust situation during Ramadan - English
Since Israelis occupied Palestine in 1948, thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their homes, and they found themselves living in refugee camps far away from their original towns and villages. In Ramadan, the situation gets more difficult for these people.
This story is not an exception, and it is similar to thousands of others. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), there are about five million Palestinian refugees. 1.2 million of them live in the besieged Gaza Strip under very hard humanitarian circumstances.

In Syria, Palestinian refugees at the Yarmouk camp on the outskirts of the capital Damascus are faced with starvation.
Reports from the camp say people have started hunting cats, dogs and donkeys. This is while foreign-backed insurgents are still holed up inside, and government forces keep fighting to force them out. Reports say seventy-eight people, including 25 women and three children, have died as a result of food shortage there. Syria has been gripped by a foreign-backed insurgency for nearly three years now.

housands of workers from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees, the UNRWA, have gone on a strike in the Gaza strip.
The strike was called in by the UNRWA Employees\' Union. The workers blocked the entrance of UNRWA headquarters to show their anger at the agency for its refusal to heed their demands --- full job security and better work conditions. The strike paralyzed all activities by the UNRWA in the Gaza Strip.

Mohammed Assaf is now the good will ambassador for Palestinian Refugees at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency. Assaf is from Gaza, and earlier this year he jumped a fence and crossed into Egypt, to enter the \"Arab Idol\" singing competition on Middle Eastern Television. At the competition, he won the title of \"Arab Idol\" for his musical abilities. Now, as someone that millions of youth in the Middle East look up to, he is championing the cause of his people who continue to suffer at the hands of Israel. Assaf pointed out that without the aid provided by the United Nations, the people of Gaza would be unable to survive.

This is al-Yarmouk camp, which is home to Palestinian refugees living in the Syrian capital Damascus. Around a million Palestinians had lived there before the camp was fallen into the hands of foreign-backed militants nearly two years ago. Now, it\'s home to only ten thousand Palestinians.
Efforts to provide the Palestinian refugees with food have failed for several times in the past. This happened due to the fighting between the army and insurgents as well as attacks by the militants on aid convoys.

The Palestinian Exile - also known as Al Nakba - Arabic for - The Catastrophe- -refers to the ethnic cleansing of native Palestinian peoples all during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. From December 1947 until November 1948 Zionist forces - namely the Irgun - Lehi - Haganah terrorist gangs - expelled approximately 750 000 indigenous Palestinians --almost two third of the population--from their homes. Hundreds of Palestinians were also murdered for refusing to leave their homes. The most notable massacre is the Deir Yassin Massacre in which an estimated 120 Palestinian civilians were brutally murdered by an Irgun-Lehi force. Other massacres include the ones at Sahila - 70-80 killed - Lod - 250 killed- and Abu Shusha - 70 killed -. About 40 other massacres were carried out by Zionist forces in just the summer of 1948. Not only did Zionist forces conduct massacres of Palestinian civilians - rape occured as well. According to Israeli historian Benny Morris - In Acre four soldiers raped a girl and murdered her and her father. In Jaffa soldiers of the Kiryati Brigade raped one girl and tried to rape several more. At Hunin which is in the Galilee two girls were raped and then murdered. There were one or two cases of rape at Tantura south of Haifa. There was one case of rape at Qula in the center of the country. At the village of Abu Shusha near Kibbutz Gezer - in the Ramle area - there were four female prisoners - one of whom was raped a number of times. And there were other cases. Usually more than one soldier was involved. Usually there were one or two Palestinian girls. In a large proportion of the cases the event ended with murder. Because neither the victims nor the rapists liked to report these events- we have to assume that the dozen cases of rape that were reported- which I found are not the whole story. They are just the tip of the iceberg.- during Al Nakba - Palestinians were murdered raped and ethnically cleansed from their villages. According to Israeli historian Ilan Pappe - In a matter of seven months 531 villages were destroyed and 11 urban neighborhoods emptied.- Palestinians were forced into were forced out of Palestine and into neighboring countries - i.e. Lebanon Syria and Jordan - where they lived in refugee camps. Many were also sent to camps in West Bank and Gaza Strip. Most Palestinian towns were demolished and taken by the newly established Israeli government to make room for new Jewish immigrants. Old Palestinian infrastructures as well as many ruins dating back from the Canaanites Romans Greeks Crusaders Arabs and Ottoman Turks were completely destroyed. This signified the end of historical Palestine and the birth of modern-day Israel. Al Nakba marked the beginning of the Palestinian refugee crisis. Al Nakba destroyed a thriving and diverse Palestinian society and scattered them into diaspora. According to the UNRWA - the number of registered Palestinian refugees today is approximately 4.5 million. These refugees are dispersed throughout the world - many of which are still living in poverty-stricken refugee camps. Today the situation keeps worsening and thousands die from malnutrition - contaminated water - or scarce medical supply. Israel has since refused to allow Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and has refused to pay them compensation as required by UN Resolution 194 which was passed on December 11 1948. Historically the Israeli government Israeli schools and Israeli historians have denied that Al Nakba has occured. However The New Historians - a loosely-defined group of Israeli historians - have recently published information recognizing the Al Nakba tragedy and controversial views of matters concerning Israel - particularly events concerning its birth in 1948. Much of their material comes from recently declassified Israeli government papers. Leading scholars in this school include Benny Morris - Ilan Pappe - Avi Shlaim - and Tom Segev. Many of their conclusions have been attacked by other scholars and Israeli historians - who continue deny Al Nakba even occured.

- Going beyond the physical dimension of fasting
- Remembering the deceased, poor, sick, hungry, refugees, prisoners, and more
- Look for ways we can shift the public opinion and draw attention of our governments and human rights organizations about the Muslim minorities who are put under distress because political strife and conflict
- The issues of the Palestinians, Houthis, Rohingya should be given a top priority
- Even when the Pope visited our Grand Ayatullah, Sayyid ‘Ali as-Sistani in Najaf, he talked emphasized on the role that the great religious leaders should play in curbing these tragedies and to urge the great powers, to prefer reason and wisdom over the language of war
- The style of the du‘ā taught to us by the Prophet is interesting: begins with praying for all others before you pray for yourself!

Calling the Israeli regime as one of apartheid is not rhetoric, nor is it an exaggeration or a propaganda tool. This is the reality in modern day Palestine, where the Israeli regime is based on discrimination, through laws, practices, education and most aspects of life. This apartheid regime not only imposed on the people in Palestine, but also on millions of Palestinian refugees denied their right to return home because they are of the wrong religion.
As awareness across the world continues to increase regarding the Israeli Apartheid regime in Palestine, each effort in this aspect would help accelerate the conclusion of this shameful page in history. And as this awareness rises, campaigns to boycott, divest and sanction this regime provide a very effective and natural response. The world witnesses a similar response transpire and bear fruit in the case of South Africa, and there are very good reasons to believe that it will do the same in the case of Palestine.

As Lebanon is grappling with an influx of Syrian refugees, the latest UN figures highlights the extent of the crisis. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has said one out of five people living in Lebanon are refugees who have fled the conflict in neighboring Syria.
Some 30 percent of the Refugees live in substandard shelters. Lebanon\\\'s government has refused to set up official camps for the refugees fearing a crisis similar to that of the Palestinian refugees 52 thousand of whom were living in Syria. Many of Syrian refugees are unregistered and undocumented migrants and live in hundreds of unofficial tent settlements on northern and eastern peripheries. The figures provided by the UNHCR do not include hundreds of thousands of refugees who are not registered. But estimates show that there could be over one million Syrian refugees in Lebanon living in tents like these. Some, 280,000 are children of school age, and over 70% very much dependent on any humanitarian aid they can get. The greatest suffering in the camps is seen in the eyes of the children. This boy was eager to go on television hoping that our presence would attract humanitarian aid. The women complain about how they\\\'re not getting enough help for their children: This man was a school teacher in Syria\\\'s Hama. Now he\\\'s trying to help create an educational center for children of school age, many of whom have not received any education for two years: Lebanon currently hosts the highest number of refugees from Syria. More than a million other Syrians have fled to Jordan and Turkey. The United Nations has warned that the number of Syrian refugees will almost double over the next year to top four million.

This footage is from the Tel Rumeida neighborhood which is at the center of the Hebron city in the West Bank. Facts about Israel -- courtesy AntiHypocrisy on youtube -- 6 wars - 4 million Palestinian Refugees - 3 million Occupied - 254 km of an Apartheid Wall - 562 Humiliation-check-points - 20K Political-prisoners - 468831 new settlers on an Occupied land - Disappearance of Palestine - Destruction of 350 Churches and Mosques - World Leader in violating international laws and tens of UN resolutions - Has Killed more innocent civilians per capita than any other country 50000 plus - Has Imprisoned more civilians per capita 250000 plus - Has rendered more civilians Handicapped per capita 50000 plus -- While reading these facts it is important that we do not lose sight of the distinction between the political Zionists and the general Jewish people. Not all Jews are Zionists and not all Zionists are Jews (for example the right wing Christian supporters of Israel in America). What should distinguish us from the Zionist oppressors are our morals and principles. It would be a shame and a moral defeat if in the process of resisting the oppression we become like the oppressors and start stereotyping and targeting a whole ethnic or religious group.

Hundreds of Palestinian have died inside Israeli prisons and now an Israeli television channel has aired shocking footage of Israel's so-called Control and Restraint unit, or Masada, attacking Palestinian prisoners.
Activists have demanded people in charge of the operation, carried out in 2007, be charged and the family of one of the victims told Al Jazeera that they would consider suing Masada.
Al Jazeera's Nisreen El-Shamayleh reports from Seida in the occupied West Bank.
